Nutrient resorption strategies of three oak tree species in response to interannual climate variability

Background:Nutrient resorption is critical for plants toward balancing their nutritional requirements and adapting to environmental variabilities,which further impacts litter quality and nutrient ***,the interannual variability of nutrient resorption under climate change remains ***:We investigated the five-year nutrient resorption efficiencies(NuRE,%)of 14 elements in three deciduous oak tree species(Quercus aliena ***,***,and ***)in a warm-temperate forest of Central China and assessed their relationships with interannual climate and soil ***:Nutrient resorption did not differ between species but varied significantly between different *** each year,N,P,S,K,C,Mg,and Zn were preferentially resorbed in all of the oak species in contrast to Ca,Na,Mn,Ba,Al,Fe,Cu,which were to some extent *** the 14 elements,the NuRE of C,N,P,S,Ca,and Mg was more sensitive to interannual climate variations in the three oak *** carbon resorption efficiency was significantly increased during the driest year of the study(2014);N resorption efficiency was reduced with temperature;whereas N and P resorption efficiency initially decreased and then increased with ***,the elements with higher NuREs typically had lower coefficient of variation(CV)in all three oak ***:Different oak species exhibited analogous nutrient conservation strategies in response to annual climate variabilities,and interannual climate variations strongly impacted plant nutrient *** plants may establish a tradeoff mechanism to rebalance somatic nutrients for regrowth at the end of the growing season.

Evaluation of Population Structure, Genetic Diversity and Origin of Northeast Asia Weedy Rice Based on Simple Sequence Repeat Markers

Weedy rice exerts a severe impact on rice production by competing for sunlight, water and nutrients. This study assayed the population structure, genetic diversity and origin of Northeast Asia weedy rice by using 48 simple sequence repeat markers. The results showed that weedy rice in Northeast Asia had a high genetic diversity, with Shannon＇s diversity index （I） of 0.748 and the heterozygosity （He） of 0.434. In each regional population, I value varied widely. The widest range of I （0.228-0.489） was observed in the weedy rice of Eastern China, which was larger than that of Northeast China and Korea （0.168-0.270）. The F-statistics of regional populations （Fis, Fit and Fst） also showed higher values in the weedy rice of Eastern China than those of Northeast China and Korea All weedy rice accessions were grouped into two clusters in the unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean cluster analysis dendrogram, namely Eastern China branch and Northeastern China plus Korea branch. There was significant differentiation in genetic characteristics in weedy rice of northeastern and eastern Asia, especially in Eastern China.

A generalized model of island biogeography

MacArthur and Wilson's equilibrium theory is one of the most influential theories in *** evolution on islands is to be important to island biodiversity,speciation has not been well integrated into island biogeography *** incorporating speciation and factors influencing it into the MacArthur-Wilson model,we propose a generalized model unifying ecological and evolutionary processes and island ***-island speciation may play an important role in both island species richness and endemism,and the contribution of speciation to local species diversity may eventually be greater than that of immigration under certain *** conditions are related to the per species speciation rate,per species extinction rate,and island features,and they are independent of immigration *** model predicts that large islands will have a high,though not the highest,proportional endemism when other parameters are *** on the generalized model,changes in species richness and endemism on an oceanic island over time were predicted to be similar to empirical *** model provides an ideal starting point for re-evaluating the role of speciation and re-analyzing available data on island species diversity,especially those biased by the MacArthur-Wilson model.

"What determines species diversity"was listed as one of the25 highlighted and extremely challenging questions in the journal Science on its 125^(th)anniversary(Pennisi,2005).Why are there so many species in the world?How do these species coexist in one community?Ecologists and evolutionary biologists have struggled with these questions for centuries.A leading explanation,particularly in tropical forests,is Janzen-Connell hypothesis(Janzen,1970;Connell,1971),which suggests that local abundance of seeds and seedlings is negatively affected by conspecific neighbors through accu・mulation of host-specific natural enemies(conspecific negative density dependence,CNDD).

This paper deals with the robust stability analysis of dynamic systems with interval time- varying delay and uncertainties. The innovation of the method includes employment of a tighter integral inequality and construction of an appropriate type of Lyapunov functional. The stability criteria derived from this method have less conservatism than some existing ones. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the orooosed method.

Prediction and cause investigation of ozone based on a double-stage attention mechanism recurrent neural network

Ozone is becoming a significant air pollutant in some regions,and VOCs are essential for ozone prediction as necessary ozone *** this study,we proposed a recurrent neural network based on a double-stage attention mechanism model to predict ozone,selected an appropriate time series for prediction through the input attention and temporal attention mechanisms,and analyzed the cause of ozone generation according to the contribution of feature *** experimental data show that our model had an RMSE of 7.71μg/m3 and a mean absolute error of 5.97μg/m3 for 1-h *** DA-RNN model predicted ozone closer to observations than the other *** on the importance of the characteristics,we found that the ozone pollution in the Jinshan Industrial Zone mainly comes from the emissions of petrochemical enterprises,and the good generalization performance of the model is proved through testing multiple *** experimental results demonstrate the validity and promising application of the DA-RNN model in predicting atmospheric pollutants and investigating their causes.

Effect of Hydraulic Loading Rate on the Efficiency of Effluent Treatment in a Recirculating Puffer Aquaculture System Coupled with Constructed Wetlands

Constructed wetlands(CWs) were integrated into an indoor recirculating aquaculture system of obscure puffer(Takifugu obscurus) for effluent treatment. The effect of hydraulic loading rate(HLR) on the efficiency of effluent treatment by CWs was examined for over a month. The CWs were operated under brackish conditions(salinity 7.4–7.6) at 3 different HLRs(0.762, 0.633, and 0.458 m d–1) 3 times, 10 days each. Overall, the CWs exhibited high efficiency in removal of total ammonium nitrogen(by 81.03–92.81%) and nitrite nitrogen(by 99.40%–99.68%). The efficiency of CWs in removal of total ammonium nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, total Kjeldahl nitrogen, total phosphorous, and total suspended solids(TSS) increased with the decrease of HLR. The CWs operated at the 3 HLRs in a decreasing trend proves to be effective, providing a useful method for effluent treatment in commercial puffer aquaculture systems.

Dear Editor,The existing control schemes for microgrids(MGs)face challenges in effectively addressing plugging in/out operations under uncertain power lines and *** tackle this issue,this letter proposes a novel scalable fault-tolerant control(FTC)strategy for DC *** developing a structured Lyapunov matrix(SLM),a decoupled FTC method is introduced to mitigate the adverse effects of uncertain lines and nonuniform ***,global stability is ensured by deriving local rules expressed as linear matrix inequalities(LMIs)that solely depend on local *** new distributed generation unit(DGU)introduces only one additional condition of this nature,allowing the stability rules to scale with topology ***,the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is illustrated through simulations conducted using the MATLAB/SimPowerSystems toolbox.

Adaptive dynamic programming for linear impulse systems

We investigate the optimization of linear impulse systems with the reinforcement learning based adaptive dynamic programming(ADP)*** linear impulse systems,the optimal objective function is shown to be a quadric form of the pre-impulse *** ADP method provides solutions that iteratively converge to the optimal objective *** an initial guess of the pre-impulse objective function is selected as a quadratic form of the pre-impulse states,the objective function iteratively converges to the optimal one through *** direct use of the quadratic objective function of the states within the ADP method is theoretically possible,the numerical singularity problem may occur due to the matrix inversion therein when the system dimensionality increases.A neural network based ADP method can circumvent this problem.A neural network with polynomial activation functions is selected to approximate the pre-impulse objective function and trained iteratively using the ADP method to achieve optimal *** a successful training,optimal impulse control can be *** are presented for illustrative purposes.

INTRODUCTION On 24 August 2023,the Japanese government insisted on initiating the discharge of Fukushima nuclearcontaminated water into the sea,causing widespread global concerns regarding marine biological safety,seafood and marine resources(TEPCO 2023).Although the Japanese government has consistently emphasized that the nuclear wastewater has been treated using an Advanced Liquid Processing System(ALPS),resulting in very low concentrations of various nuclear elements,and that the International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA)has conducted real-time monitoring of the treatment process and discharge fow(IAEA 2023),people around the world still harbor signifcant *** are a few reasons for this ongoing apprehension.
