Height-diameter models for King Boris fir(Abies borisii regis Mattf.) and Scots pine(Pinus sylvestris L.) in Olympus and Pieria Mountains, Greece

In forest science and practice, the total tree height is one of the basic morphometric attributes at the tree level and it has been closely linked with important stand attributes. In the current research, sixteen nonlinear functions for height prediction were tested in terms of their fitting ability against samples of Abies borisii regis and Pinus sylvestris trees from mountainous forests in central Greece. The fitting procedure was based on generalized nonlinear weighted regression. At the final stage, a five-quantile nonlinear height-diameter model was developed for both species through a quantile regression approach, to estimate the entire conditional distribution of tree height, enabling the evaluation of the diameter impact at various quantiles and providing a comprehensive understanding of the proposed relationship across the distribution. The results clearly showed that employing the diameter as the sole independent variable, the 3-parameter Hossfeld function and the 2-parameter N?slund function managed to explain approximately 84.0% and 81.7% of the total height variance in the case of King Boris fir and Scots pine species, respectively. Furthermore, the models exhibited low levels of error in both cases(2.310m for the fir and 3.004m for the pine), yielding unbiased predictions for both fir(-0.002m) and pine(-0.004m). Notably, all the required assumptions for homogeneity and normality of the associated residuals were achieved through the weighting procedure, while the quantile regression approach provided additional insights into the height-diameter allometry of the specific species. The proposed models can turn into valuable tools for operational forest management planning, particularly for wood production and conservation of mountainous forest ecosystems.

Background Noncommunicable diseases(NCDs)are the main reasons of mortality *** of every two person is dying due to NCDs in *** policy actors,mainly the World health Organization(WHO),published several reports and declarations on controlling and preventing *** study aimed to provide a situation for governance of NCDs in Afghanistan and proper solutions for identified *** We conducted qualitative research utilizing interpretive phenomenology.A self-developed questionnaire was developed to conduct the semi-structured interviews with 39 experts from *** results were analyzed using a deductive framework *** building block framework of health system developed by the WHO was used as predefined framework for this *** The governance building block of health system consists of five subthemes including policy making,planning,organizing,stewardship,and *** identified main strengths,weaknesses,opportunities,and challenges for these *** experts also provided key recommendations to address the *** management of NCDs is a neglected part of the health system in *** evidence-based policy making with technical and indigenous planning,establishing responsive units with adequate financial and human resources within different ministries to address“health in all policies”concept,passing and implementing national laws and regulations to support national strategies for prevention and control of NCDs,and establishing decentralized monitoring systems to control the implementation of these strategies are the main recommendations of this *** government and international policy actors should invest and support the development of a multisectoral coordination system at national level for Afghanistan.

GMAT:A Graph Modeling Method for Group Preference Prediction

Preference prediction is the building block of personalized services,and its implementation at the group level helps enterprises identify their target customers *** methods for preference prediction mainly focus on behavioral interactions to extract the associations between groups and products,ignoring the importance of other auxiliary records(e.g.,online reviews and social tags)in association *** paper proposes a novel method named GMAT for group preference prediction,aiming to collectively detect the sophisticated association patterns from user generated content(UGC)and behavioral *** doing so,we construct a tripartite graph to collaborate these two types of data,and design a deep-learning algorithm with mutual attention module for generating the contextualized representations of groups and *** experiments on two real-world datasets show that GMAT is superior to other baselines in terms of group preference ***,GMAT is able to improve prediction accuracy compared with its different variants,further verifying the proposed method’s effectiveness on association pattern detection.

Data-Driven Earthquake Multi-impact Modeling: A Comparison of Models

In this study, a broad range of supervised machine learning and parametric statistical, geospatial, and non-geospatial models were applied to model both aggregated observed impact estimate data and satellite image-derived geolocated building damage data for earthquakes, via regression-and classification-based models, respectively. For the aggregated observational data, models were ranked via predictive performance of mortality, population displacement, building damage, and building destruction for 375 observations across 161 earthquakes in 61 countries. For the satellite image-derived data, models were ranked via classification performance(damaged/unaff ected) of 369,813 geolocated buildings for 26 earthquakes in 15 countries. Grouped k-fold, 3-repeat cross validation was used to ensure out-of-sample predictive performance. Feature importance of several variables used as proxies for vulnerability to disasters indicates covariate utility. The 2023 Türkiye–Syria earthquake event was used to explore model limitations for extreme events. However, applying the AdaBoost model on the 27,032 held-out buildings of the 2023 Türkiye–Syria earthquake event, predictions had an AUC of 0.93. Therefore, without any geospatial, building-specific, or direct satellite image information, this model accurately classified building damage,with significantly improved performance over satellite image trained models found in the literature.

Uganda has been implementing the Global health Security Agenda(GHSA)since 2015 to build its capacity according to World health Organization(WHO)Benchmarks on international health Regulations *** country remains prone to outbreaks,with more than 20 disease outbreaks reported in the past five years,including Ebola virus disease,Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever,Marburg haemorrhagic fever,measles,yellow fever,coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),and *** resistance(AMR)is an ongoing *** scored capacity level 3 on infection prevention and control(IPC)and antimicrobial stewardship(AMS)in the 2017 Joint External Evaluation(JEE)*** gaps were being addressed after a self-assessment in *** paper describes the technical assistance approaches provided to Uganda by the Medicines,Technologies,and Pharmaceutical Services Program,funded by the United States(U.S.)Agency for international Development,and implemented by management Sciences for *** program,through a One health approach,supported systematic capacity strengthening based on the JEE's capacity advancement framework for global health security,specifically relating to *** program's interventions impacted 32 WHO benchmark actions(7 for AMR multisectoral coordination,16 for IPC,and 9 for AMS),contributing to Uganda's strengthened GHSA *** success built on the AMR platform,the program trained 745 health workers in IPC for the Ebola virus and provided support for simulation exercises by eight district IPC *** program also worked with the Ministry of health to coordinate IPC for the COVID-19 response in five health regions,covering 45 districts and reaching 5,452 health workers at 858 health facilities.

FinTech Can Prevent the Formation of Zombie Firms:Evidence from China

The interplay between financial technology(FinTech)and real economy firms has garnered considerable *** paper explores the relationship and mechanism between FinTech and corporate zombification using the data of Chinese A-share listed firms in China from 2011 to *** research findings reveal that FinTech significantly inhibits firm zombification,and FinTech breadth and depth both play a significant role in restraining firm *** exploration indicates that,on the one hand,FinTech reduces friction in the financial market,inhibiting firm zombification by improving firm investment efficiency,especially alleviating *** the other side,FinTech indirectly affects the technological investment,production,and operation of firms,thereby inhibiting firm zombification by increasing their total factor *** analysis suggests that the inhibitory effect of FinTech on corporate zombification is more pronounced for non-stateowned firms and small-sized firms,as well as those in manufacturing industries and highly competitive *** paper provides some novel evidence on evaluating the effect of FinTech on firms and also offers new insights for efficient governance of zombie firms.

Spatial Structure of Peer Networks and Academic Achievement Based on a Random Control Trial Experiment

This paper investigates whether changing the seating arrangement in a classroom can facilitate positive spillovers from top-performing students to others,using a field experiment conducted in a Chinese high *** study groups with balanced abilities,the treatment altered the spatial distribution by assigning the two top students to seats in the spatial center of each *** the reference groups where students were allowed to choose their own seating arrangements,the lowest performing were significantly less likely to sit next to a top student than they would be under a random *** results suggest that,in the treated groups,there could be enhanced academic spillovers from the top *** treatment especially benefited the two lowest performing students in science *** contrast,the treatment exerted negative effects on the test scores of the two middle-performing students,due to a disruption *** results suggest that the spatial layout of a peer network can have a significant impact on learning outcomes.
