In order to provide the population with safe, effective and good quality medicines, the pharmaceutical industries, before releasing batches of their products into the pharmaceutical circuit, put in place internal dosage methods to control the quality of these products. The present study consisted in optimizing a method for the simultaneous determination of Phloroglucinol (PHG) and Trimethylphloroglucinol (TPH) by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) routinely used in a pharmaceutical industry located in a township in Abidjan (Ivory Coast). The basic chromatographic conditions were those routinely used for the determination of these two molecules: mobile phase: acetonitrile/water (60/40), stationary phase (C18 BDS Hypersil 250 mm * 4.6 mm - 5 μm), detection wavelength (265 nm), flow rate, injection volume and run time configured at the equipment level were respectively 1 mL/min, 10 μL and 8 min. The method of preparation of the analytes (PHG and TPHG) was also applied by the pharmaceutical industry. The application of these different parameters at the equipment level made it possible to determine a chromatogram which highlights three chromatographic peaks with respective retention times (RT) of 0.773 min (unidentified compound), 2.275 min (PHG) and 7.269 min for an analysis time of 8 min with a better resolution of the peaks and baseline. The progressive optimization of different parameters such as the stationary phase (C18 YMC 150 mm * 4.6 mm - 3 μm), the proportion of the mobile phase: acetonitrile/water (80/20), the flow rate impelled by the pump (0.8 mL/min) and the modification of the analyte preparation mode (same amount of PHG and TPHG in a 50 mL volumetric flask) resulted in a final chromatogram that highlighted two chromatographic peaks at the respective RT of 2.391 min (PHG) and 3.735 min (TPHG) at a run time of 6 min. Apoptosis and autophagy play crucial roles during Bombyx mori metamorphosis and in response to various adverse conditions, including starvation. Recently, calpain, one of the major intracellular proteases, has been reported to be involved in apoptosis and autophagy in mammals. BmATG5 and BmATG6 have been identified to mediate apoptosis following autophagy induced by 20-hydroxyecdysone and starvation in B. mori. However, B. mori calpains and their functions remain unclear. In this study, phylogenetic analysis of calpains from B. mori, Drosophila melanogaster and Homo sapiens were performed and the results showed distinct close relationships of BmCalpain-A/B with DmCalpain- A/B, BmCalpain-C with DmCalpain-C, and BmCalpain-7 with HsCalpain-7. Then, the expression profiles of BmCalpains were analyzed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, and results showed that expression ofBmCalpain-A/B, BmCalpain-C and BmCalpain-7 was significantly increased during B. mori metamorphosis and induced in the fat body and midgut of starved larvae, which is consistent with the expression profiles ofBmAtgS, BmAtg6 and BmCaspase-1. Moreover, the apoptosis-associated cleavage of BmATG6 in Bm-12 cells was significantly enhanced when BmCalpain-A/B and BmCalpain-7 were induced by starvation, and was partially inhibited by the inhibitor of either calpain or caspase, but completely inhibited when both types of inhibitors were applied together. Our results indicated that BmCalpains, including BmCalpain-A/B, -C and -7, may be involved in autophagy and apoptosis during B. mori metamorphosis and after starvation, and may also contribute to the apoptosis-associated cleavage of BmATG6.

Stable isotopes are increasingly used to investigate seasonal migrations of aquatic organisms. This study employed stable isotopes(δ^(13) and δ15N) for Coilia nasus from the lower Yangtze River and the adjacent East China Sea to distinguish different ecotypic groups, ascertain trophic nutrition positions, and reflect environmental influences on C. nasus. δ^(13)C signatures of C. nasus sampled from Zhoushan(ZS), Chongming(CM), and Jingjiang(JJ) waters were significantly higher than those from the Poyang Lake(PYL)(P food webs, respectively. C. nasus in Poyang Lake were significantly more enriched in δ^(15)N but depleted in δ^(13), suggesting that anthropogenic nutrient inputs and terrigenous organic carbon are important to the Poyang Lake food web. This study is the first to apply δ^(15)Nand δ^(13) to population assignment studies of C. nasus in the Yangtze River and its affiliated waters. Analysis of stable isotopes(δ^(15)Nand δ^(13)) is shown to be a useful tool for discriminating anadromous and non-anadromous C. nasus.

Almost half of the total rural area of Guizhou Province and many regions within the 11 adjacent provinces in southwestern China have a long history(at least 70 years) of endemic fluorosis,including dental fluorosis and osteofluorosis along with its associated deformities and *** decades of research,this specific type of endemic fluorosis has been defined as coal-burning fluorosis,which is distinct from drinking-water *** is generally acknowledged that indoor burning and combustion of high-fluorine coal leads to food contamination,and fluorine then enters the human ***,the exact chemical form of fluorine during its release and transfer to the body is still *** the present study,21 domestic coal samples from outcrop and semi-outcrop coal collected in five villages with fluorosis were analyzed by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry(TOF-SIMS).The total mass fraction of sulfur in the samples ranged from 0.24%-5.58% and total fluorine content ranged 90.2-149.2 mg/kg.H3O+,H2SO4+ and HSO4-were detected in the samples by TOF-SIMS,which indicated that sulfuric acid hydrate(H2SO4.H2O) was present in the samples.F-was detected in all of these,which suggested the samples contain ionic fluorine *** certain circumstances,such as heating or burning,the prevalence and coexistence of the acid(H2SO4.H2O) and base(F-) would lead to a neutralization reaction producing volatile hydrogen fluoride(HF,bp = 19.5℃).This would be the chemical form of fluorine released from the *** studies using HF and SO2 test tubes on headspace gas over coal samples heated to 200℃ in the laboratory and on headspace gas over stoves or chimney tops at rural residences confirmed the release of HF.

Plasticizers that are generally used in plastics to produce flexible food packaging materials have proved to cause reproductive system problems and women＇s infertility. A long- term consumption may even cause cancer diseases. Hence a nano-scale layer, named as functional barrier layer, was deposited on the plastic surface to prevent plasticizer diethylhexyl phthalate＇s （DEHP） migration from plastics to foods. The feasibility of functional barrier layer i.e. SiOx coating through plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition （PECVD） process was then described in this paper. We used Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR） to analyze the chemical composition of coatings, scanning electron microscope （SEM） to explore the topography of the coating surfaces, surface profilemeter to measure thickness of coatings, and high-performance liquid chromatography （HPLC） to evaluate the barrier properties of coatings. The results have clearly shown that the coatings can perfectly block the migration of the DEHP from plastics to their containers. It is also concluded that process parameters significantly influence the block efficiency of the coatings. When the deposition conditions of SiOx coatings were optimized, i.e. 50 W of the discharge power, 4 ： 1 of ratio of O2 ： HMDSO, and ca.100 nm thickness of SiOx, 71.2% of the DEHP was effectively blocked.

Nitrite is a commonly used additive in cured foods and its sensitive detection is important to human *** this work,a simple but sensitive electrochemical sensor for nitrite was *** carbon black(VXC-72R)functionalized with a cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB)was used as an electrode material,and was coated on a glassy carbon electrode(GCE)to fabricate the electrochemical sensor(CTAB/VXC-72R/GCE)for *** potential characterization and a series of electrochemical tests were carried out on several *** was found that the present sensor showed an enhanced sensitivity towards nitrite detection due to the enhanced surface positive charge revealed by the Zeta *** optimal conditions,the ranges of good linear relationship between the peak current and the nitrite concentration were obtained to be 0.5-5.0μmol/L and 5.0-1087.0μmol/L with a lower detection limit of 0.30μmol/*** was also successfully used for the determination of nitrite in cured food samples with excellent reproducibility,stability and selectivity.

Functional genomics employs dozens of OMICs technologies to explore the functions of DNA, RNA and protein regulators in gene regulation processes. Despite each of these technologies being powerful tools on their own, fike the parable of blind men and an elephant, any one single technology has a limited ability to depict the complex regulatory system. Integrative OMICS approaches have emerged and become an important area in biology and medicine. It provides a precise and effective way to study gene regulations. Results： This article reviews current popular OMICs technologies, OMICs data integration strategies, and bioinformatics tools used for multi-dimensional data integration. We highlight the advantages of these methods, particularly in elucidating molecular basis of biological regulatory mechanisms. Conclusions： To better understand the complexity of biological processes, we need powerful bioinformatics tools to integrate these OMICs data. Integrating multi-dimensional OMICs data will generate novel insights into system-level gene regulations and serves as a foundation for further hypothesis-driven research.
