Concentrations of PCDD/Fs, dioxin-like PCBs as well as six indicator PCBs were determined in animal origin foods collected from Hong Kong retail market during 2008-2010. The dietary intake of an average Hong Kong adult resident was estimated to be 0.806-0.833 pg WHO-TEQ kg^-1 b.w. d^-1 of dioxin-like compounds, lower than the tolerable daily intake introduced by WHO. The 95th percentile consumer were exposed by dietary at the level of 2.72 to 2.81 pg WHO-TEQ kg^-1 b.w. d^-1 or 81.6-84.3 pg WHO-TEQ kg^-1 b.w. month^-1 , higher than 70 pg WHO-TEQ kg t b.w. month^-1. DL-PCBs contributed 49.2% of total TEQ intake. The daily intake of indicator PCB was 2.83 ng kg^-1 b.w. d^-1. Approximately 2/3 of dietary intake of dioxin-like compounds came from sea food products. Ten brands of infant formula products were tested and the potential dietary intake of formula-fed infants of Hong Kong was estimated to be 1.46-1.58 pg WHO-TEQ kg^-1 b.w. d^-1 during 1st month and decreases afterwards.

Biodegradation Behavior of Starch in Simulated White Water System of Old Corrugated Cardboard Pulping Process

The anti-asthmatic activity of the dried tangerine pericarp Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae（Citrus reticulata ’Chachi’）（’Chachi’ PCR） was *** alkaloid-type compounds,synephrine and stachydrine,were isolated and *** ’Chachi’ PCR alkaloid fraction and synephrine protected against histamine-induced experimental asthma in guinea pigs in a dose-dependent manner.A high,middle,and low dose of ’Chachi’ PCR alkaloid fraction significantly increased the specific airway resistance by 284%,328% and 355%,respectively,and decreased dynamic compliance by 57%,67%,and 75%,respectively.A similar change was observed for *** expression of eosinophils was significantly downregulated by the’Chachi’PCR alkaloid fraction and synephrine compared to the control *** did not have a statistically significant effect on the expression of inflammatory *** ’Chachi’ PCR alkaloid fraction and synephrine significantly reduced the expression of IgE,IL-4,and IL-5 in serum whereas stachydrine had no *** pathological changes in lung tissues showed that the infiltration of inflammatory cells around the bronchia was observed in each treatment *** data suggest that the ’Chachi’ PCR alkaloid fraction and synephrine mediate anti-asthmatic effects mainly via inhibition of inflammation and thus can potentially be used as a treatment to improve pulmonary function.

Survival of the plant-growth promoting rhizobacteria （PGPR） strain Pseudomonasfluorescens 92 in two batches ofbiosolids and soil amended with them and functional and structural shifts occurring in the resident bacterial communities were assessed. Viability of the rifampicin resistant gfp-tagged P. fluorescens 92RTcgfp, inoculated in microcosms consisting of biosolids, soil amended with biosolids and soil, drastically decreased 3-7 days after inoculation in treatments containing biosolids and soil amended with them. The PGPR counts in biosolids were always lower than in soil throughout the experiment whereas, in soil amended with biosolids, were similar or higher depending on the batch of biosolid. Analysis of the community-level physiological profiling （CLPP） revealed a strong impact of the strain on the metabolic activities, as seen in a general uniformity of the inoculated microcosms profiles. According to single-strand conformation polymorphism （SSCP） analysis, the presence of the PGPR had no effect on the resident soil and biosolid eubacterial population, whereas it induced a transient shift in the composition of the resident pseudomonads. In conclusion, biosolids themselves are not suitable as inoculum vehicle for the PGPR nevertheless, their combined incorporation into soil increases the inoculum survival and buffers the competition effects with the resident communities.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of hot air drying（HAD）,freeze drying（FD） and freeze combined with hot air drying（FHD） on phenolic compounds in black *** antioxidant activity was also *** results indicated that pre-dried with HAD for 24 h and then HAD for 3.5 h,the product showed the highest crispness and middle *** the FD products showed the highest retention of anthocyanin and total phenolic contents,and antioxidant activities,the drying time and energy consumption were higher than HAD and *** significant differences were observed in quercetin content between FD and *** concentrations of rutin and chlorogenic acid in FHD samples were higher than that in HAD samples,and lower than that in FD *** together,FHD could be a promising technique to reduce energy consumption and enhance product quantity.

Covalent organic frameworks(COFs)are crystalline porous polymers with designable structures and *** crystallization typically relies on trialand-error experimentation involving harsh conditions,including organic solvents,presenting significant obstacles for rational design and large-scale ***,we present a liquid crystal-directed synthesis methodology and its implementation for up to gram-scale production of highly crystalline COFs in water and *** is compatible with monomers of different structures,shape,size,length of side chains,and electron-donating,electron-accepting,and heterocyclic substitutions near reactive *** types of donor-acceptor two-dimensional COFs including four types of new ones and a three-dimensional COF with a yield of up to 94%were demonstrated,showing great generality of the *** as-synthesized donor-acceptor COFs are organic semiconductors and contain macropores besides intrinsic mesopores which make them attractive *** production of H_(2)O_(2)under visible light in water was studied and the structure-property relationships were *** production rate reached 4347μmol h^(−1)gcat^(−1),which is about 467%better than that of the benchmark photocatalyst g-C_(3)N_(4).This study will inspire the mild synthesis and scale-up of a wide spectrum of COFs and organic semiconductors as efficient catalysts,promote their structure-property investigation,and boost their applications.

Objective: To develop an optimal follow-up treatment for neonatal and nosocomial infections and to examine correlations between the C-reactive protein (C-RP) and platelets. Methods: A sample of 27 septic neonates and 14 non-septic neonates were selected for this study. The non-septic neonates served as a control group. Blood samples were collected from both groups and analyzed for bacterial contamination via blood culture, complete blood count (CBC), and C-RP, according to international laboratory standards. Blood collection and analysis were repeated every day during the follow-up treatments with antibiotics to evaluate the kinetics of C-RP. Results: Blood culture found E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus in the blood of the septic cases. Serum C-RP concentrations were at high levels (24 mg/dl) in the septic neonates and at normal levels (lower than 6 mg/dl) in the control group. Treatment with active antibiotics resulted in a drastic reduction of the C-RP values and helped to reach a normal level as in the control group. On the other hand, there were increases in the platelet levels as the C-RP levels decreased. This result indicates a strong negative association between C-RP and platelet levels in the septic group only. Statistical analysis shows significant differences between the mean C-RP serum concentrations of the sepsis and non-sepsis. Conclusion: blood culture, active antibiotics, and kinetic C-RP measurements during the medical follow-up treatment are strong driving parameters for the optimal and successful management of sepsis.

Whitefly-transmitted begomoviruses are economically important plant pathogens that cause severe problems in many crop plants,such as tomato,papaya,cotton,and *** yellow leaf curl virus(TYLCV)is a typical monopartite begomovirus that has been extensively studied,but methods that can efficiently control begomoviruses are still *** this study,we combined artificial microRNA(amiRNA)-mediated silencing technology and clay nanosheetmediated delivery by spraying and developed a method for efficiently preventing TYLCV infection in tomato *** designed three amiRNAs that target different regions of TYLCV to silence virus-produced *** plant expression vectors expressing pre-amiRNAs were constructed,and recombinant plasmid DNAs(pDNAs)were loaded onto nontoxic and degradable layered double hydroxide(LDH)clay *** nanosheets containing multiple pDNAs were sprayed onto plant *** found that the designed amiRNAs were significantly accumulated in leaves 7 days after spraying,while the pDNAs were sustainably detected for 35 days after the spray,suggesting that the LDH nanosheets released pDNAs in a sustained manner,protected pDNAs from degradation and efficiently delivered pDNAs into plant ***,when the LDH nanosheets coated with pDNAs were sprayed onto plants infected by TYLCV,both the disease severity and TYLCV viral concentration in sprayed plants were significantly decreased during the 35 days,while the levels of H_(2)O_(2) were significantly increased in those *** together,these results indicate that LDH nanosheets loaded with pDNAs expressing amiRNAs can be a sustainable and promising tool for begomovirus control.
