Reduced Spring Precipitation Bias and Associated Physical Causes over South China in FGOALS-f3 Climate Models:Experiments with the Horizontal Resolutions

Considerable spring precipitation occurs over South China(SC),a region that is adjacent to large-scale Asian topography and *** reasonable simulation is crucial for improving regional climate *** study investigates spring precipitation biases over SC and their possible causes in atmosphere-only and coupled Flexible Global Ocean–Atmosphere–Land System finite-volume version 3(FGOALS-f3) models with different horizontal *** performance of spring precipitation simulation over SC varies across different FGOALS-f3 model versions,with the best reproducibility in the high-resolution coupled model(25 km).In the low-resolution atmosphere-only model(100–125 km),the precipitation dry bias over SC is closely linked to overestimated surface sensible forcing over the eastern Tibetan Plateau(TP),which weakens the subtropical anticyclone over the western Pacific(SAWP) through regional circulation *** contrast,the high-resolution atmosphere-only model further amplifies surface thermal forcing in the Asian continents,causing intensified land–sea thermal contrast between the Southeast Asian continents and western Pacific,enhanced southerly winds and SAWP,and increased water vapor transport into ***,the reduced middle–high level cold bias over 10°–30°N in the high-resolution atmosphere-only model intensifies the East Asian westerly jet and ascent over SC,leading to enhanced spring precipitation *** high-resolution coupled model simulation not only reduces sea surface cold bias over the Bay of Bengal,thus intensifying the Indian–Burma trough and strengthening low-level water vapor transport into SC,but also enhances ascent over *** a result,the high-resolution coupled model better reproduces the magnitude and pattern of spring precipitation over SC than its atmosphere-only *** with low-resolution models,the domain-mean spring precipitation dry bias decreases by 11.2% over SC in the high-resolution atmosphere-only mod

Experimental　Investigation　of　Forced　Convective　Boiling　Flow　Instabilities　in　Horizontal　Helically　Coiled　Tubes

An experimental investigation is described for the characteristics of convective boiling flow instabilities in horizontally helically coiled tubes using a steam-water two-phase closed circulation test loop at pressure from 0.5 MPa to 3.5 MPa. Three kinds of oscillation are reported: density waves; pressure drop excursions; thermal fluctuations. We describe their dependence on main system parameters such as system pressure, mass flowrate, inlet subcooling, compressible volume and heat flux. Utilizing the experimental data together with conservation constraints, a dimensionless correlation is proposed for the occurrence of density waves.

Humic acids(HAs) are widely used as filtrate and viscosity reducers in drilling fluids. However, their practical utility is limited due to poor stability in salt resistance and high-temperature resistance. Hightemperature coal pitch(CP) is a by-product from coal pyrolysis above 650.C. The substance's molecular structure is characterized by a dense arrangement of aromatic hydrocarbon and alkyl substituents. This unique structure gives it unique chemical properties and excellent drilling performance, surpassing traditional humic acids in drilling operations. Potassium humate is prepared from CP(CP-HA-K) by thermal catalysis. A new type of high-quality humic acid temperature-resistant viscosity-reducer(Graft CP-HA-K polymer) is synthesized with CP-HA-K, hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile sodium salt(Na-HPAN),urea, formaldehyde, phenol and acrylamide(AAM) as raw materials. The experimental results demonstrate that the most favorable conditions for the catalytic preparation of CP-HA-K are 1 wt% catalyst dosage, 30 wt% KOH dosage, a reaction temperature of 250.C, and a reaction time of 2 h, resulting in a maximum yield of CP-HA-K of 39.58%. The temperature resistance of the Graft CP-HA-K polymer is measured to be 177.39.C, which is 55.39.C higher than that of commercial HA-K. This is due to the abundant presence of amide, hydroxyl, and amine functional groups in the Graft CP-HA-K polymer,which increase the length of the carbon chains, enhance the electrostatic repulsion on the surface of solid particles. After being aged to 120.C for a specified duration, the Graft CP-HA-K polymer demonstrates significantly higher viscosity reduction(42.12%) compared to commercial HA-K(C-HA-K). Furthermore,the Graft CP-HA-K polymer can tolerate a high salt concentration of 8000 mg.L-1, measured after the addition of optimum amount of 3 wt% Graft CP-HA-K polymer. p-d轨道之间的相互作用是一种提升电催化性能的有效方法.然而,其对主族金属的电催化CO_(2)还原(eCO_(2)RR)的增强机制尚不清晰.因此,我们向金属Bi纳米片中引入了一系列过渡金属氧化物(TMO:Fe_(2)O_(3)、Co_(3)O_(4)、NiO),并以此研究引入TMO对Bi物种eCO_(2)RR性能的影响.根据原位傅里叶变换红外光谱(FTIR)和CO_(2)-程序升温脱附(TPD)的结果,Bi/TMO中的TMO可以增强CO_(2)的吸附和活化能力.密度泛函理论(DFT)计算结果表明,Bi活性位点^(*)OCHO吸附能及p轨道的优化可以降低CO_(2)到^(*)OCHO过程和^(*)OCHO到HCOOH过程的理论过电位.同时,由于Bi与TMO之间因复合而发生的电子重排也促进了催化剂与反应物之间的电子传输.因此,在热力学和动力学的双重作用下,Bi/TMO中的Bi活性位点表现出最佳的催化能力,在更宽的电位区间内实现了更高的催化活性和甲酸选择性.其中,Bi/Fe_(2)O_(3)的增强效果最为显著.在500 mV的宽电位区间内达到较高的甲酸的法拉第效率(>90%),在-0.8 VRHE时,甲酸的法拉第效率达到最大值99.7%(Bi的1.11倍),甲酸局部电流密度达到12.65 mA cm^(-2)(Bi的1.86倍).这一研究不仅建立了eCO_(2)RR性能增强与引入TMO之间的关系,也为理性设计高性能电催化剂提供了一条实用的、可扩展的途径.

To reduce CO_(2) emissions in response to global climate change,shale reservoirs could be ideal candidates for long-term carbon geo-sequestration involving multi-scale transport ***,most current CO_(2) sequestration models do not adequately consider multiple transport ***,the evaluation of CO_(2) storage processes usually involves laborious and time-consuming numerical simulations unsuitable for practical prediction and *** this paper,an integrated model involving gas diffusion,adsorption,dissolution,slip flow,and Darcy flow is proposed to accurately characterize CO_(2) storage in depleted shale reservoirs,supporting the establishment of a training *** this basis,a hybrid physics-informed data-driven neural network(HPDNN)is developed as a deep learning surrogate for prediction and *** incorporating multiple sources of scientific knowledge,the HPDNN can be configured with limited simulation resources,significantly accelerating the forward and inversion ***,the HPDNN can more intelligently predict injection performance,precisely perform reservoir parameter inversion,and reasonably evaluate the CO_(2) storage capacity under complicated *** validation and test results demonstrate that the HPDNN can ensure high accuracy and strong robustness across an extensive applicability range when dealing with field data with multiple noise *** study has tremendous potential to replace traditional modeling tools for predicting and making decisions about CO_(2) storage projects in depleted shale reservoirs.

Combined Impacts of Antecedent Earthquakes and Droughts on Disastrous Debris Flows

This paper describes a study on the combined impacts of antecedent earthquakes and droughts on disastrous debris *** is a novel attempt in quantifying such impacts using the effective peak acceleration(EPA)(to represent earthquakes) and standardized precipitation index(SPI)(to represent droughts).The study is based on the analysis of 116 disastrous debris flow events occurred in China's Mainland in the last 100 years covering a wide spectrum of climate types and *** has been found that the combined impacts from earthquakes and droughts on disastrous debris flows do exist and vary from low to very high according to different climate conditions and *** impacts from earthquakes increase with the increased terrain relief,and the impacts from droughts are strongest in semi-humid climate condition(with reduced impacts in humid and semi-arid /arid climate conditions).Hypothetical explanations on the study discoveries have been *** study reveals the possible reasons for the disastrous debris flow distributions around the world and has significant implications in paleo-climate-seismicanalysis and disastrous debris flow risk management.

Free-surface Simulations of Newtonian and Non-Newtonian fluids with the Lattice Boltzmann Method

This paper describes the application of a three-dimensional lattice Boltzmann method （LBM） to Newtonian and non-Newtonian （Bingham fluid in this work） flows with free surfaces. A mass tracking algorithm was incorporated to capture the free surface, whereas Papanastasiou＇s modified model was used for Bingham fluids. The lattice Boltzmann method was first validated using two benchmarks： Newtonian flow through a square cross-section tube and Bingham flow through a circular cross-section tube. Afterward, the dam-break problem for the Newtonian fluid and the slump test for Bingham fluid were simulated to validate the free-surface-capturing algorithm. The numerical results were in good agreement with analytical results, as well as other simulations, thereby proving the validity and correctness of the current method. The proposed method is a promising substitute for time-consuming and costly physical experiments to solve problems encountered in geotechnical and geological engineering, such as the surge and debris flow induced by a landslide or earthquake.
