Effect of domestically-made levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device (LNG, release rate: 6 μg/day) on the endocrine system and menstruation in mondeys was investigated. The results showed that the Estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P) levels were significantly decreased 2 ovulatory cycles after iusertion of the devices as compared with those before insertion in 3 monkeys (P>0. 001) ,suggesting an evident ovulation-suppressing effect. In 1 monkey, the E2 and P levels were the same before and after insertion,and expulsion of device was found in the monkey later. The plasma LNG concentration in 3 animals was 493. 69-454. 60 pg/ml and plasma LNG was not detected in 1 monkey. The hormone level returned to normal level after removal of the devices.

Since the identification of the novel reassortant avian influenza A(H7N9) virus in China in 2013, until Jun 30, 2017, the virus has caused five epidemic waves leading to a total of 1,552 human infections, with a fatality rate of about 40%. In the spring of2017, highly pathogenic avian influenza(HPAI) H7N9 virus emerged and has caused 25 human infections. The HPAI H7N9 virus has some biological differences from the LPAI one, such as its multiple basic amino acid residues on HA leading to its independence on trypsin for replication. The pathogenicity of the HPAI H7N9 virus to experimental animals or humans is still unclear. A(H7N9) vaccine development for pandemic preparedness is ongoing, including the reassortment(H7N9/PR8)reverse genetic based vaccine, the virus like particle(VLP) vaccine, the intranasal live attenuated influenza vaccine(LAIV),the non-adjuvant Vero cell culture-derived inactivated whole-virus vaccine, the MDCK culture-derived vaccine, the H7 DNA vaccine and the recombinant replicative H7N9 virus \(H7N9-53 TM\) vaccine. Five neuramidinase resistant sites of A(H7N9)virus isolated from patients have been reported. Some alternative drugs have been studied, such as DAS181(Fludase), ribavirin,troglitazone and minocycline. Persistent surveillance and enhanced global control are essential to fight against human infections with A(H7N9) virus.

Change of Accessory Genital Glands Markers in the Patients with Oligoasthenospermia

Objective To evaluate the effect of the accessory gential gland on the male fertility. Methods The relevant seminal parameters of 32 normal donors and 35 patients with olioasthenospermia were measured by seminal routine analysis, sperm morphology and accessory, gentital glands markers.Results The percentage of normal spermatozoa, the function of sperm penetration through cervical mucus and the enzyme activity of neutral α-1,4-glucosidase significantly declined as compared with the control. There was a significant negative relationship between the semen volume and the sperm motility for the oligoasthenospermia （r= -0.415, P〈0.05）, and a significant positive relationship between the sperm count and the percentage of normal sperm （r=0.393, P〈0.05）.Conclusion The abnormal function of epididymis exists in patients with oligoasthenospermia. Sperm function,for the oligoasthenospermia declines with an increase of the percentage of the abnormal sperm. The poorer the spermatogenises function of the testis is, the higher the percentage of the abnormal sperm appears.

An easy and reliable method was developed for construction and quantification of competitive templates, which shared the same sequence as the amplified target DNA except for a 20 bp insertion in the middle by recombinant polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Among the advantages of competitive PCR is that any predictable or unpredictable variable that affects amplification has the same effect on both target and competitor species and that the final ratio of amplified products reflects exactly the initial targets. The utilization of a thermostable reverse transcriptase in the RT step was proposed to overcome the problem of the efficiency of target cDNA synthesis. In addition, to obtain reliable measurements, it was recommended to perform four PCR with amounts of competitive template flanking the concentration of the target mRNA.

Dear Editor, Influenza is a contagious, acute respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses. Type A influenza virus has a broad host range and has caused substantial human morbidity and mortality. There are sixteen subtypes of influenza A virus so far, which are divided into two distinct groups： group 1 （H1, H2, H5, H6, H8, H9, Hll, H12, H13 and H16） and group 2 （H3, H4, H7, H10, H14 and H15）（Corti et al., 2011）. Seasonal H1 and H3 subtype influenza viruses are circulating in the human population.

The copolymers of 1-（acetylsalicylyloxy）ethyl methacrylate （HEMA-ASA） with methacrylicacid （MA） have been prepared and their hydrolysis in dioxane-H2.O either in acdic or alkaline medium,at 60℃or 37℃have been investigated. It is found that the chief product of hydrolysis is alwaysaspirin with minor amount of salicylic acid. Due to its neighbouring group effect, the hydrolysisrate of （HEMA-ASA）-MA copolymer markedly depends on its composition and the pH value ofhydrolysis medium, i.e. the hydrolysis rate increases with increasing mole fraction of MA in the copoly-mer and pH value of hydrolysis medium.

Thalassemia is a group of genetically heterogeneous diseases characterized by hemolytic *** investigate molecular characteristics ofα-andβ-thalassemia among young individuals of marriageable age in Guangdong Province,24,788 subjects with suspected thalassemia were genetically tested forα-andβ-thalassemia by GapPCR and reverse dot blot during 2018–*** suspected rare thalassemia cases,DNA sequencing was performed to identify rare and unknown thalassemia gene mutations.A total of 14,346 thalassemia carriers were detected,including 7,556 cases ofα-thalassemia with 25 genotypes and 8α-gene mutations identified,5,860 cases ofβ-thalassemia with 18 genotypes and 18β-gene mutations identified,and 930 cases of compoundα/β-*** them,the frequency of--SEA deletion was the highest inα-thalassemia(66.01%),followed by-α3.7(17.98%)and-α.24(8.22%),and the frequency of CD41-42(-TCTT)mutation was the highest inβ-thalassemia(38.38%),followed by IVS-II-654(C>T)(25.67%),-28(A>G)(15.76%),and CD17(10.01%).In addition,5 rare mutations(--THAI and HKαα,CD113,-90,and CD56)were found in the study *** results revealed molecular epidemiological background ofα-andβ-thalassemia in Guangdong Province,which can support optimization of thalassemia prevention and control *** demonstrated that thalassemia is heterogeneous with significant geographical differences and population specificity.

Objective To study the effect of single and low dose of RU486 on endometrial receptivity of healthy women. Methods A total of 5 healthy women were followed for one control and one treatment cycle. In the treatment cycle, a dose of 10 mg RU486 was administered on day luteinizing hormone (LH)-2. In both the control and treatment cycle, an endometrial biopsy was obtained on LH+7. These biopsies were assessed by immunohistochemical analysis to find the difference in expression of integrins and progesterone receptor (PR) between the control and treatment cycle. Results The treatment with RU486 increased the expression of α 1 and α 4 subunits of integrin in glandular epithelial cells, but did not influence β 3 subunit. Moreover, the normal down regulation of PR in epitherial cell nuclei was inhibited by 10 mg RU486. Conclusion Single dose of 10 mg RU486 impairs the establishment of endometrial receptivity on time.
