Psychometric evaluation of Iranian version of nursing faculty’s incivility questionnaire

Objective:faculty incivility is a growing problem in nursing schools that disrupts the learning process and affects nursing care of patients.Fostering and managing faculty incivility requires knowing this problem using a valid and reliable instrument.The purpose of this research was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the faculty’s perceived incivility questionnaire in the Iranian community.Methods:In this methodological study,the participants involved were 357 nursing students.They were selected between October and December 2019.The faculty’s perceived incivility questionnaire was evaluated in terms of content and construct validity.McDonald’s omega and Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were calculated.Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to evaluate the construct validity of the questionnaire.Results:The content validity index(CVI)was 0.86-0.91 for the items and 0.87 for the whole instrument.In factor analysis,two factors of violent and irresponsible behaviors were extracted.These factors explained>41.769%of the variance.Model fit indices(Parsimonious Comparative Fit Index[PCFI]=0.783,Parsimonious Normed Fit Index[PNFI]=0.756,root mean square error of approximation[RMSEA]=0.051,Goodness-of-Fit Index[GFI]=0.955,Adjusted Goodness-of-Fit Index[AGFI]=0.932,Comparative Fit Index[CFI]=0.955,χ^(2)/df=2.26)indicated the proportion of factors.Internal consistency was 0.87-0.93.Conclusions:faculty’s perceived incivility questionnaire is a valid and reliable tool with two factors that can be used to evaluate the incivility in Iranian faculty members.

Objectives:To examine the current studies about the impacts of faculty caring on nursing students'intent to graduate and provide recommendations.The nursing profession continues to face nursing shortages.One of the solutions recognized to alleviate the shortage is increasing the number of students graduating from nursing schools.It lacks a literature review synthesizing the current research about the impacts of faculty caring on nursing students'intent to graduate and indicate areas for future research.Methods:This is a systematic literature review.The search of the literature was guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses(PRISMA).Databases searched included MEDUNE via PubMed,CINAHL,PsyclNFO,and ProQuest Search.Search terms included'attrition,''dropouts,''graduation rate,''faculty,''instructor,''professor,''nursing,'and'caring.'Results:Ten articles met the inclusion criteria.The articles were conducted in the Associate Degree of nursing and the Bachelor of Science in nursing programs.nursing faculties played a significant role in students'intent to graduate by building students'confidence,creating a compassionate learning environment,and promoting students'competence.Faculties'caring behaviors,including respecting students,showing empathy,and using caring communication skills,were essential characteristics to affect students'learning environments.Conclusions:The findings indicate that students'perceptions of faculty caring can affect their perceptions of the learning environment and sense of belonging,and therefore,impact their intent to graduate.Students'perceptions of their instructors'caring behaviors are instrumental in motivating them to continue learning.The capacity of faculty caring plays a significant role in students'success.

目的本研究旨在调查埃及医院重症监护护士的临床领导力行为现状,并比较私立和公立医院护士临床领导力水平的差异。方法2019年1—3月,在埃及1所公立教学医院和1所私立医院共选取365名具有护理学学士学位的重症监护护士进行横断面调查。采用社会人口学特征调查表和临床领导力行为问卷(the Clinical Leadership Behaviors Questionnaire,CLB-Q)收集数据,将各维度及总分的条目均分转换为百分制得分,以便进行比较和分析。结果结果显示,护士CLB-Q得分为(77.11±11.87)分,其中沟通维度得分最高(91.84±7.38)。私立医院重症监护护士的CLB-Q得分为(90.48±5.53)分,高于公立教学医院护士得分(68.29±4.21),差异有统计学意义(P<0.001)。有5~10年工作经验的护士在CLB-Q总分及自我认知、倡导和授权、决策、质量与安全、团队合作和临床卓越维度得分较其他组别护士得分高(P<0.01)。单身护士的CLB-Q总分及倡导和授权、决策、质量与安全以及临床卓越维度得分较已婚护士高(P<0.01)。结论护理管理者应促进重症监护护士加强临床实践,鼓励他们参加质量和安全方面的培训项目,以培养其临床领导力。公立医院的重症监护护士尤其需要全面提升临床领导力水平。

Effects of COVID-19 fear and anxiety on attitudes towards complementary and alternative medicine use in women with gynecological cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic

Objective:Patients with gynecological cancer commonly use complementary and alternative medicine(CAM)methods to cope with the disease.However,despite the existence of treatment strategies,the effect of fear and anxiety caused by coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic on attitudes about CAM use is unclear.This study was carried out to investigate the effect of fear and anxiety experienced by patients with gynecological cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic on their attitudes towards the use of CAM.Methods:This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study that included 177 women with gynecological cancer;participants were recruited from a social networking site for cancer patients in Turkey between June and December 2021.Data were collected using an online survey that included the Personal Information Form,the Fear of COVID-19 Scale,the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale,and the Attitude Towards Holistic Complementary and Alternative Medicine Scale.Descriptive statistics,t-test,Pearson’s correlation test,and simple linear and multiple regression analyses were performed to analyze the data.Results:During the pandemic,55.4%of the participants reported using CAM methods,but only 22.6%were using CAM before the pandemic.The participants who used CAM during the pandemic also scored higher on the fear of COVID-19 and coronavirus anxiety scales(20.69±5.37 and 13.09±6.29,respectively)compared to the participants who did not use CAM(9.29±2.72 and 6.35±2.06,respectively).Fear of COVID-19 accounted for 52%of the CAM attitude score,while coronavirus anxiety accounted for 15%of the CAM attitude score.Fear of COVID-19 and coronavirus anxiety together accounted for 53%of CAM attitude.Conclusion:Gynecological cancer patients with high levels of COVID-19-related anxiety and fear during the pandemic used CAM more.Given that the psychological effects of the pandemic will continue in the coming years,CAM use should be evaluated as a coping strategy,especially due to the COVID-19-related anxiety and fear experienced by patients with gynecologica

Prevalence of social media addiction among nursing students

Objective:The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence and level of social media addiction among nursing students in the Faculty of Nursing,Cairo University.Materials and Methods:A descriptive cross‑sectional research design was conducted on samples of 340 students at the Faculty of Nursing,Cairo University.Data were collected through demographic background information sheet and Social Networking Addiction Scale.Results:All the students were addicted as 6.76%were severely addicted and 60.59%and 32.65%were moderately and mildly addicted,respectively.Significant relations were found between social media addiction and students’age(χ^(2)=11.331,P=0.003),educational level(χ^(2)=20.239,P=0.003),and grade point average(χ^(2)=19.378,P=0.013).Conclusion:Internet addiction was prevalent among all students but at different levels,so early screening of students for Internet addiction using the Internet Addiction Scale is important to provide early treatment and prevent hazards to health.

Telehealth utilization among Egyptian population and health institutional readiness:An exploratory study

Objective:This study aimed to assess the public’s perspectives and the health institutions’readiness for telehealth utilization in Egypt.Methods:A cross-sectional study design was employed,and data were collected from a convenient sample of 800 Egyptian citizens and 26 nursing administrators and information technology personnel from 16 governmental hospitals and 10 private hospitals between January and March 2022.The Egyptian community utilization of telehealth questionnaire and the telemedicine hospital readiness assessment were used to collect the data.Results:The results revealed that 35.1%of the general Egyptian population used telehealth services and 43%expressed willingness to use them in future.As perceived by the general Egyptian population,the most prevalent barriers to telehealth utilization were communication barriers(97.6%),lack of confidence in health professionals(77.6%),technological limitations(72.5%),the need for physical examination(25%),and privacy concerns(10%).Regarding hospital readiness,42%of governmental hospitals were not taking any initiative to implement telehealth services,and 15.4%were at the beginner level,meaning that some steps had been taken.However,the hospital was still far from being able to implement telehealth services.In contrast,private hospitals were either at the beginner or advanced level.Conclusion:Although the use of telehealth services in Egypt has increased,there is a need to address the barriers to public utilization and improve hospitals’readiness to implement telehealth services to enhance public usage.

目的调查约旦冠心病患者心理韧性现状及相关因素。方法采用横断面调查研究,便利选取在约旦安曼市2所公立医院心内科门诊就诊的134例患者,并采用心理韧性量表(The Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale,CD-RISC)对其进行面对面调查。采用Mann-Whitney U检验、Kruskal Wallis检验对数据进行分析。结果冠心病患者心理韧性得分为68.00(60.75,74.00),属于中等水平。没有心脏病手术史的患者心理韧性总得分[69.50(63.25,75.00)比65.50(58.00,72.00)]和“个人能力、高标准、坚韧维度”得分[22.00(18.50,26.00)比21.00(15.75,23.00)]均高于有心脏病手术史患者(P<0.05)。在职的患者“积极接受改变并确保关系维度”得分高于已经退休的患者[15.00(14.00,16.00)比14.00(12.00,15.00),P<0.05]。其他不同人口学资料患者的心理韧性及维度得分比较,差异均无统计学意义。结论应将冠心病患者的心理韧性水平及其相关因素纳入综合护理计划,以提高患者的生活质量,加强有效的应对策略,改善身心健康,并进一步预防并发症的发生。

Effect of lower leg compression during cesarean section on post-spinal hypotension and neonatal hemodynamic parameters: nonrandomized controlled clinical trial

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effect of lower leg compression during cesarean section (CS) on post-spinal hypotension (PSH) and neonatal hemodynamic parameters.Methods: This study is a nonrandomized controlled clinical trial conducted in the cesarean delivery unit of the National Medical institute,Damanhour,Egypt.The sample included 120 parturients (60 intervention and 60 control).The researchers developed three tools for data collection: sociodemographic data and reproductive history interview schedule,electronic monitoring of maternal hemodynamic parameters,and neonatal hemodynamic assessment sheet.All parturients received ordinary preoperative care.For the intervention group,a long elastic stocking (ordinary pressure 20-30 mmHg,1 mmHg =0.133 kPa) was applied on both legs during cesarean section.The control group received the same care without the elastic stocking.Results: Systolic blood pressure,diastolic blood pressure,and mean arterial blood pressure were significantly higher in the intervention group throughout the entire operation period except in the last 5 -15 min.Heart rate was significantly lower in the intervention group.Only 13.3% of the intervention group took ephedrine compared with 45% of the control group.Apgar score was higher among neonates of intervention group compared with the control group at 1 min.Neonatal acidosis was significantly higher in the control group than in the contral group.Conclusion: Lower leg compression technique can effectively reduce PSH and neonatal acidosis.

目的印度尼西亚糖尿病足部溃疡的发病率远高于全球发病率。护生应具备良好的糖尿病性溃疡护理知识和积极的态度,以期在临床实践中能够进行有效的伤口护理。本研究旨在评估印度尼西亚护理学生糖尿病溃疡护理的知识和态度以及相关因素。方法2021年9月至2022年2月,对印度尼西亚3所护理院校的396名护生进行横断面调查。调查问卷内容包括关于糖尿病溃疡护理的知识和态度。采用χ^(2)检验和多元logistic回归分析对数据进行统计学分析。结果结果显示,43.2%(171/396)的护生对糖尿病性溃疡护理知识不足,但88.9%(352/396)的护生持积极态度。护生对糖尿病性溃疡、糖尿病神经病变、伤口感染的特点和糖尿病溃疡辅助治疗的知识较为缺乏;许多护生认为糖尿病性溃疡的护理较为耗时,很难在临床工作中做到。进入临床实习的学生的相关知识明显优于理论学习阶段的学生(aOR=9.99,95%CI 4.96-20.08,P<0.001)。男生对糖尿病性溃疡护理的积极态度明显不及女生(aOR=0.42,95%CI 0.19-0.96,P=0.048),习惯与同伴分享相关知识的学生的态度比其他学生更为积极(aOR=2.76,95%CI 1.40-5.41,P=0.003)。结论课程设置人员和护理教育工作者应设置和改进有关糖尿病伤口护理的课程,采取有效策略提高学生的相关知识水平和态度。本研究结果可为此提供参考依据。

Exploring internship nursing students’ perception of gerontological nursing competencies: A descriptive study at Cairo University Hospitals

Objective:This research study explores the perceptions of gerontological nursing competencies,attitudes toward older individuals,and the willingness to provide care for the elderly among internship nursing students.Materials and Methods:A convenience sample of 350 internship nursing students from Cairo University Faculty of Nursing participated in the study.Data were collected using a set of comprehensive tools,including personal data and work experience assessment,the Hartford geriatric nurse competency tool,Kogan’s attitudes toward old people scale,and the modified elderly patient care inventory.Results:Descriptive analysis revealed balanced gender representation,with 60%identifying as female.Seventy percent of participants reported prior experience in gerontological care.Self-assessed competency scores indicated moderate proficiency in communication,physiological changes,and functional status assessment.Areas such as pain management and restraint use demonstrated potential gaps in self-perceived skills.Attitudes toward older individuals were predominantly positive,and the willingness to provide care showed positive tendencies,with a minor degree of hesitation noted.Conclusion:The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions in nursing education to address competency gaps,enhance positive attitudes,and alleviate potential hesitations in caregiving for older individuals.As the elderly population continues to grow,nursing education programs must prepare future practitioners to deliver comprehensive and compassionate care tailored to the unique needs of older adults.
