Effect of daily supplementation of soy isoflavones on hot flashes and night sweats in African menopausal women

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a pharmaceutical grade isoflavone supplement (Inoclim?) 40 mg per capsule of soy extract rich in daidzin and genistin) on the number of hot flashes and night sweats in menopausal African women. This open, prospective, multicenter study involved 140 menopausal women with climacteric symptoms (i.e., a minimum of five hot flashes and/or moderate to severe night sweats per day). These patients received a daily 40-mg supplement of soy isoflavone contained in an Inoclim? capsule (Laboratoire Innotech International, France). The dose was increased to two capsules per day when there were more than five hot flashes or when the women could not sleep because of night sweats. The patients were followed up over a 4-month period and data were analyzed using EPI-InfoTM version 3.5.1. The outcome measure was fewer hot flashes and night sweats. The mean daily number of episodes of hot flashes was 5.7 at baseline and 1.8 at week 16, corresponding to a decrease of 68.4% (n = 93 patients at baseline and n = 66 at 16 weeks). The mean number of daily episodes of night sweats was 3.7 at baseline and 0.8 at week 16, corresponding to a decrease of 78.4% (n = 127 patients in the first week and n = 73 at 16 weeks). Over 80% of patients took a single one 40 mg capsule per day. The percentage of patients who adhered to the prescription was more than 95% during the 4-month follow-up period. These results confirm the effectiveness of a pharmaceutical grade isoflavone supplement (40 mg, rich in genistin and daidzin) on vasomotor symptoms in menopausal women.

Isolation and Identification of Mannheimia haemolytica and Pasteurella multocida Species from Ruminants in Six Different Regions in Morocco

Pasteurella species is considered the principal pathogen of the respiratory *** haemolytica and Pasteurella multocida were investigated and typed from nasal swabs and tissues taken from sheep,goat and ***,41 lung and 121 nasal swabs samples were collected from animals with respiratory diseases during 2015 to 2017 in six different regions in *** first,a screening of Pasteurella species using the real time PCR(RT-PCR)was carried out,then all isolated strains on agar blood were confirmed by PCR gel based assay specific for *** and *** was evaluated in mice and histopathological examination was done on some of lung *** results revealed that 34 samples of which 28(55%)from nasal swabs and six(38%)from lungs were positive for *** and nine samples of which seven(14%)from nasal swabs and two(13%)from lungs were positive on *** serogroup ***-two percent(72%)isolates were highly pathogenic to mice,which is in accordance with the results obtained by histopathology *** is the first report for widespread infections of Pasteurella(***&***)in ruminants in ***,measures including development of vaccines are highly required to mitigate the impact of the bacteria in animals.

Evaluation of antioxidant activities of some Nigerian medicinal plants

Objective:The methanol extracts of the leaves of Kolancheo(K.) pinnata,Aspilia(A.) africana,Mucuna (M.) pruriens,Emilia(E.) coccinea,Triumfetta(T.) rhomboidea,Laportea(L.) ovalifolis,Celosia(C.) trigynea,Cucurbita(C.)moschata and Asystesia(A.)gangestica were evaluated for antioxidant activities,the reducing potentials of these plants were also determined and phytochemical screening of some of these plants were carried ***:The antioxidant activities of these plants were evaluated by the use of 2,2-diphenyl -1 -picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) free radical assay and *** reducing potentials of these plants were determined using Ferric chloride,Potassium Ferricyanide and Trichloroacetic acid proceedures. The phytochemical screenings of the medicinal plants were equally done using standard ***: The percentage of antioxidant activities values for the plants were:(31.00±1.80)%,(58.40±1.26) %,(59.10±1.60)%,(60.00±1.05)%,(60.80±1.28)%,(62.40±1.26)%,(64.80±2. 10)%,(75.70±2.60)%and(82.70±2.80)%for ***,***,***,L. ovalifolia,***,***,***,*** and *** values were dose-dependent and statistically significant at P < 0.05(ANOVA).The results showed that *** had the highest antioxidant activity value(82.70±2.80%) while *** had the least value (31.00±1.80%).The percentage of antioxidant activities of these plants were comparable to the standard used,Tocopherol which was found to be(97.20±1.06)%.The reducing potentials of the plants were found to be positively correlated to the antioxidant activities of the *** screenings revealed the presence of alkaloids,flavonoids,terpenoids,saponins and tannins in the medicinal ***:The findings from this study have revealed the potentials of these plants as *** could be exploited in drug development in search of powerful antioxidants which are urgently needed to challenge free radicals

Neglected tropical diseases are a group of tropical diseases endemic in poor countries even though medical treatment and cures are available. They are considered a global health problem due to the severity of the physiological changes they induce in their hosts. Malaria is a disease caused by Plasmodium sp. that in its cerebral form may lead to acute or long-term neurological deficits, even with effective antimalarial therapy, causing vascular obstruction, reduced cerebral blood flow and many other changes. However, Plasmodium falciparum infection can also develop into a cerebral malaria(CM) disease that can produce neurological damage. This review will discuss the mechanisms involved in the neuropathology caused by CM, focusing on alterations in cognitive, behavior and neurological functions in human and experimental models.
