Identifying behavioral determinants and stage of readiness for performing knee massage among individuals with knee osteoarthritis:An observational study

Objective Patients who experience knee osteoarthritis or chronic knee pain can alleviate their symptoms by performing self-knee *** the readiness and types of determinants needed to facilitate self-knee massage is needed to design effective,theory-informed *** primary objective of this study was to apply the transtheoretical model of behavior change to identify how factors,which include the type of knee condition and pain level,predict an individual’s readiness to adopt self-knee *** secondary objective employed the capability,opportunity and motivation-behavior(COM-B)model to identify relevant determinants that are predictive of an individual’s readiness to undertake self-knee *** An observational study design was used to recruit individuals with knee osteoarthritis(n=270)and chronic knee pain(n=130).Participants completed an online survey that assessed the transtheoretical model of behavior change stages,COM-B determinants(capability,opportunity and motivation),along with self-administered massage *** analysis of covariance and structural equation modeling were used to test the primary and secondary objective,*** Participants who had knee osteoarthritis scored higher on the action stage compared to those with chronic pain(P=0.003),and those who experienced greater level of pain scored higher in the contemplation(P<0.001)and action phases(P<0.001)of performing knee massage compared to those with milder *** COM-B structural equation model revealed self-administered knee massage to be predicted by capability(β=0.31,P=0.004)and motivation(β=0.29,P<0.001),but not opportunity(β=–0.10,P=0.39).Pain level predicted motivation(β=0.27,P<0.001),but not capability(β=0.09,P=0.07)or opportunity(β=0.01,P=0.83).Tests for mediating effects found that determinants of COM-B(motivation and capability)mediate between pain level and self-administered massage behavior(β=0.10,P=0.002).Conclusion Cl

Infection control and prevention in burn victims:The role of nurses

Burn injury is a major public health concern,with an estimated 180,000 deaths each year associated with burn-related *** majority of these occur in low-and middle-income countries,and almost two-thirds occur in the World health Organization African and South-East Asia *** is a risk of an escalation of burn injury site infections if nurses who are directly involved in burn care do not develop a mechanism to mitigate this risk in the coming ***,this study aims at explaining what burn injuries are and how nurses can prevent the occurrence of infection among burn *** review analyzed published studies using keywords such as burn injury,infection in burn patients,and nurses’involvement in infection prevention and control(IPC)on search engines such as PubMed,Science Direct,and Google *** literature was retrieved and reviewed for eligibility to capture just the variables indicated in this seminar objective;the date range chosen in the literature search was from 2015 to *** study found that many patients die from burn injuries as a result of exposure to infection and most nurses are not adequately informed about infection *** study also found that nurses’responsibilities include proper hand hygiene,wound care,the use of personal protective equipment,antibiotic medication,cleaning the patient’s surroundings,and preventing patient *** injuries pose a significant risk to patients,necessitating infection control and ***,nurses in burn units should be informed on IPC practices and also educate patients,families,and coworkers on their importance.

Extension of the theory of adherence to treatment in patients with coronary heart disease

Background: Increased knowledge of the concept of adherence is needed for development patient-centered care, nursing interventions, and guidelines for patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). The aim of this study was to test and extend the Theory of Adherence to Treatment regarding informational support in patients with ***: The study utilized an explanatory and descriptive survey. The study was conducted in 2013 and involved 416 patients in five hospitals in Finland. The Adherence of Patients with Chronic Disease instrument and the Social Support for People with CHD instrument were used. The model was tested using structural equation modeling (SEM).Results: SEM confirmed direct associations between motivation (β = 0.49,p healthy lifestyle and medication. Informational support included information and advice on CHD risk factors, physical exercise, chest pain, medication, continuum of care, and rehabilitation. Indirect standardized path coefficients varied between 0.14 and 0.45. The model explained 45% of adherence to a healthy lifestyle and ***: The results of this study showed that informational support is a justified extension to the original Theory of Adherence to Treatment in Patients with CHD. Informational support seems to offer a new perspective that can be used to develop patient-centered nursing interventions and thus support adherence to treatment by patients with a lifelong disease such as CHD.

Nutritional Assessment Tools for Patients with Cancer:A Narrative Review

Oketani massage with jasmine oil improves breast milk production on postpartum days 1-3

Objective:This study aimed to determine the effect of Oketani massage with jasmine oil on improving breast milk production on days *** and Methods:This preexperimental one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted with 44 eligible respondents,selected using an incidental sampling *** massage with jasmine oil was conducted once a day for 3 consecutive days.A total of 44 respondents were selected with incidental *** breast milk production was observed through the frequency of baby urination in 24 h,the frequency of baby defecation in 24 h,the baby’s weight,and the length of time the baby slept or remained calm after ***:Results showed that Oketani massage using jasmine oil impacted on increasing breast milk production in postpartum on days 1-3(Z=6.633,P=0.000).The baby’s weight in 3 days was increased after intervention compared with intervention before(2858.25±180.62 g vs.2881.66±180.96 g,t=55.33,P=0.000),the baby’s urination frequency was increased after intervention(4.55±0.50 vs.7.20±0.70,t=17.87,P=0.000),the breastfeeding frequency has decreased(10.27±1.42 vs.8.82±0.82,t=6.94,P=0.000),and the time of baby’s sleeping or calming state has increased(5.14±6.46 h vs.8.48±10.24 h,t=2.11,P=0.041).Conclusion:Oketani massage combined with jasmine oil has been shown to be effective on improving breast milk production on days 1-3.

Importance of timely and adequate source control in sepsis and septic shock

Source control is defined as the physical measures undertaken to eliminate the source of infection and control ongoing contamination, as well as restore anatomy and function at the site of infection. It is a key component of the management of patients with sepsis and septic shock and one of the main determinants of the outcome of infections that require source control. While not all infections may require source control, it should be considered in every patient presenting with sepsis;it is applicable and necessary in numerous infections, not only those occurring in the abdominal cavity. Although the biological rationale is clear, several aspects of source control remain under debate. The timing of source control may impact outcome;early source control is particularly relevant for patients with abdominal infections or necrotizing skin and soft tissue infections, as well as for those with more severe disease. Percutaneous procedures are increasingly used for source control;nevertheless, surgery—tailored to the patient and infection—remains a valid option for source control. For outcome optimization, adequate source control is more important than the strategy used. It should be acknowledged that source control interventions may often fail, posing a challenge in this setting. Thus, an individualized, multidisciplinary approach tailored to the infection and patient is preferable.

Impact of tourism on the vigilance behavior of the Cyprus rock agama(Laudakia cypriaca)

Escape behavior is a common antipredator strategy among wild ***,we investigated the effect of four factors on the vigilance behavior of the endemic Cyprus rock agama(Laudakia cypriaca).Flight initiation distance(FID,the minimum distance to which an observer can approach a lizard before it flees)was measured in relation to the type of location(tourist *** area),the observer’s starting distance,air temperature,and substrate *** collected data for 39 agamas in tourist areas and 34 of these lizards in nontourist *** a whole,the mean starting distance was 10.5 m and the FID was 3.6 *** average substrate temperature was 34.0℃ and the average air temperature 29.6℃.Only the type of area affected the agamas’escape decisions with FID being 1.8 m shorter in tourist areas than in nontourist areas(2.7 m vs.4.5 m).This is probably due to the habituation of lizards to the presence of humans in the former *** study shows that tourism strongly affects the behavior of lizards,which may have consequences for the functioning of the *** can increase the safety of lizards by creating a human shield to deter *** the tourist season is over,lizards may become more vulnerable to predators.
