Does dutasteride reduce the bleeding in transurethral resection of the prostate in patients on antiplatelet drugs?

Background The aim of this study was to assess the effect of a 4-week dutasteride treatment on reducing the intraoperative and postoperative bleeding,as well as the amount and duration of irrigation required to clear the urine after transurethral resection of the prostate(TURP)≥50 g in men receiving the antiplatelet drug(APD).Materials and methods This double-blind randomized clinical trial included patients with a prostate size≥50 g who were indicated for TURP and were already receiving *** study was conducted in the Urology Department of Cairo University over a 12-month *** preoperative laboratory investigations were performed in all ***,baseline prostate size,serum prostate-specific antigen level,and International Prostate Symptom Score were *** patients were randomly divided into 2 equal groups(groups A and B).Group A,the dutasteride group,received dutasteride(0.5 mg)once daily for 4 *** B,the placebo group,received a placebo capsule once daily for 4 *** groups underwent bipolar *** patients were excluded from the study;9 patients from group A and 6 patients from group B,either due to drug intolerability or loss *** The mean blood loss was insignificant between the 2 groups immediately after and 24 hours after surgery(Δhemoglobin:1.41±0.63 g/dL vs.1.48±0.54 g/dL,2.12±0.70 g/dL vs.2.31±0.78 g/dL,respectively,p=0.631,p=0.333;Δhematocrit:2.97%±1.51%vs.3.16%±1.36%,4.96%±1.87%vs.5.73%±4.39%,respectively,p=0.610,p=0.380).However,there were significant differences in duration of indwelling urethral catheter(5.10±0.55 days vs.5.80±1.79 days,p=0.048),duration of bladder irrigation(13.60±2.85 hours vs.16.33±6.62 hours,p=0.044),and the amount of saline used for bladder irrigation(11.03±2.30 L vs.13.87±6.13 L,p=0.046)between group A and group *** Treatment with dutasteride for 4 weeks before TURP in men receiving APD did not significantly reduce intraoperative or postoperativ

Attitude and willingness on gamete donation among medical students:An experience from a state university in Sri Lanka

Objective:To assess the attitude and willingness of medical students of the faculty of medicine,University of Jaffna,regarding gamete ***:An institutional-based descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at the faculty of medicine,University of Jaffna,from September 2022 to May 2023 among undergraduate medical students who gave their voluntary participation.A self-administered questionnaire was used as a study instrument to collect data regarding their attitude and willingness toward gamete ***:A total of 345 participants were recruited and their sociodemographic data revealed that 56.8%of the participants were female,62.3%aged between 26 and 30 years,and 92.2%were *** of them received information regarding gamete donations during their clinical *** half(67.8%)of them showed a negative attitude towards gamete *** willingness,only 39.7%of participants had a positive approach for being a gamete donor;among them,84.7%preferred anonymous *** and ethnicity had a significant influence on their attitudes and *** addition,male was also found to be more willing to donate ***:Most medical students have negative views about gamete *** awareness and knowledge of assisted reproductive technology and gamete donation within medical students'sociocultural and ethical backgrounds might facilitate a change in attitude towards gamete donation amongst future medical practitioners.

Exploring groundwater quality in semi-arid areas of Algeria:Impacts on potable water supply and agricultural sustainability

Groundwater quality assessment is important to assure safe and durable water *** semi-arid areas of Algeria,groundwater represents the main water resource for drinking water supply of the rural population as well as for irrigation of agricultural *** samples from wells and springs were collected from the Gargaat Tarf and Annk Djemel sub-watersheds of the Oum el Bouaghi,Algeria,and were analyzed and compared with the World Health Organization(WHO)*** showed that most of the measured physical and chemical parameters exceeded the quality limits according to the WHO *** had a slightly alkaline water pH(7.00-7.79),electrical conductivity>1500μS/cm,chloride>500 mg/L,calcium>250 mg/L,and magnesium>155 mg/*** quality index(WQI)results showed that 68%of the area had excellent water quality,24%of the samples fell into good category,and only 8%were of poor quality and unsuitable for human *** wells in the area showed bacterial *** coliforms(453.9(±180.3)CFU(colony-forming units)/100 mL),fecal coliforms(243.2(±99.2)CFU/100 mL),and fecal streptococci(77.9(±32.0)CFU/100 mL)loads were above the standard limits set by the *** results confirmed that water resources in the study area were strongly influenced by anthropogenic activities and were not recommended for consumption as drinking water.

A Discussion of Artificial Intelligence in Visual Art Education

Since ChatGPT emerged on November 30, 2022, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been increasingly discussed as a radical force that will change our world. People have become used to AI in which such ubiquitous technologies as Siri, Google, and Netflix deploy AI algorithms to answer questions, impart information, and provide recommendations. However, many individuals including originators and backers of AI have recently expressed grave concerns. In this paper, the authors will assess what is occurring with AI in Visual Arts Education, outline positives and negatives, and provide recommendations addressed specifically for teachers working in the field regarding emerging AI usage from kindergarten to grade twelve levels as well as in higher education.

Antiphosp.olipid Syndrome: Nephrologists’ Perspective

Introduction: Antiphosp.olipid antibody syndrome is a complex autoimmune disease that can affect all systems of the body and characterized by presence of antiphosp.olipid antibodies that cause vascular thrombosis and pregnancy complications, kidney involvement is very common in patients with antiphos- pholipid syndrome and leads to many serious complications. Objectives: study the effect of antiphosp.olipid syndrome on kidneys. Data Sources: By searching and reviewing medline databases (Pub med and medscape) and all renal involvement in antiphosp.olipid syndrome materials available till 2019. Study Selection: All studies were independently assessed for inclusion. They were included if they fulfilled the following criteria: 1) published in English language;2) published in peer-reviewed journals;3) discussed the involvement of kidney in antiphosp.olipid syndrome. Data Extraction: Data from each eligible study were independently abstracted using a data collection form to capture information related to our concerned study outcomes. If the studies did not fulfill the inclusion criteria, they were excluded. Study quality assessment includes if ethical approval is gained, eligibility criteria specified, adequate information and defined assessment measured. Data Synthesis: Structured review with the results tabulated was made for comparison. Conclusions: We can conclude that kidney affection in patients with antiphos- pholipid syndrome has a wide spectrum and variation.

lncRNA Gm20257 alleviates pathological cardiac hypertrophy by modulating the PGC-1α-mitochondrial complex IV axis

Pathological cardiac hypertrophy, a major contributor to heart failure, is closely linked to mitochondrial function. The roles of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), which regulate mitochondrial function, remain largely unexplored in this context. Herein, a previously unknown lncRNA, Gm20257, was identified. It markedly increased under hypertrophic stress in vivo and in vitro. The suppression of Gm20257 by using small interfering RNAs significantly induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. Conversely, the overexpression of Gm20257 through plasmid transfection or adeno-associated viral vector-9 mitigated angiotensin II-induced hypertrophic phenotypes in neonatal mouse ventricular cells or alleviated cardiac hypertrophy in a mouse TAC model respectively, thus restoring cardiac function. Importantly, Gm20257 restored mitochondrial complex IV level and enhanced mitochondrial function. Bioinformatics prediction showed that Gm20257 had a high binding score with peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor coactivator-1 (PGC-1 alpha), which could increase mitochondrial complex IV. Subsequently, Western blot analysis results revealed that Gm20257 substantially affected the expression of PGC-1 alpha. Further analyses through RNA immunoprecipitation and immunoblotting following RNA pull-down indicated that PGC-1 alpha was a direct downstream target of Gm20257. This interaction was demonstrated to rescue the reduction of mitochondrial complex IV induced by hypertrophic stress and promote the generation of mitochondrial ATP. These findings suggest that Gm20257 improves mitochondrial function through the PGC-1 alpha-mitochondrial complex IV axis, offering a novel approach for attenuating pathological cardiac hypertrophy.

Objective: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a condition of insufficient penile erection, consistently or recurrently, for sexual activity. Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) induces transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), which causes the transition of epithelial cells into mesenchymal cells that affect ED. This study aimed to evaluate the roles of TNF-α, TGF-β, degree of lower urinary tract symptoms, and prostatic volume for the presence of ED in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) ***: Our study performed an analytic observational retrospective cohort study using secondary data from four hosp.tals in Bali, Indonesia, including medical records and other administrative data. The sample was BPH patients with several history ***: Our sample was 83 respondents, ranging from 50 years to 80 years, 61 respondents with ED and 22 with non-ED. The International Prostate Symptom Score showed a significant result, which indicates that ED is more common in patients with higher International Prostate Symptom Score (p=0.002). Moreover, the TNF-α of ≥43.9 pg/mg and TGF-β of ≥175.8 pg/mL were significantly associated with the presence of ED in BPH patients (p<0.0001). Despite these results, prostate volume is not significant with ED (p=0.947).Conclusion: TNF-α, TGF-β, and lower urinary tract symptoms severity can predict the occurrence of ED in BPH, while prostatic volume was not significant.

Objective:This article aims to deeply analyze the feedback on teacher training in an affiliated hosp.tal,so as to clarify the current needs and situation of teacher training and provide a scientific basis for further optimizing the teacher training ***:The current situation and needs of teacher training in the affiliated hosp.tal were collected by designing and distributing Tomato Form questionnaires on the DingTalk *** questionnaire adopted a percent-point system,all of which were indeterminate multiple-choice ***:The average age of the clinical teachers participating in the survey was 40.44±7.85 years old,with an average teaching length of 4–10 *** results showed that 60.20%of teachers think that the amount of teacher training in an affiliated hosp.tal is sufficient;91.10%of teachers think that the factors affecting training conflict with working hours;97.96%of teachers believe that the training time has an impact on the training effect;81.63%of teachers prefer online training;51.53%of teachers tend to arrange training time on working days;33.16%of teachers tend to train once a month;17.78%of teachers prefer to receive training on clinical theoretical courses and practical teaching norms and skills ***:Based on the above survey results,we propose to build a comprehensive management mechanism for teacher training,including improving the access,training,and assessment mechanism for clinical teachers,and adjusting and optimizing the training program according to actual *** the same time,an effective communication platform should be built to promote the deep integration of teaching and practice and enhance social recognition,so as to comprehensively improve the teaching quality and medical service of the hosp.tal.
