The benefits of regular physical activity are well ***,few studies have examined the effectiveness of integrating physical activity(PA)into curricula within a post-secondary *** investigate the incorporation of PA into medical curriculum,we developed a series of optional exercise-based review sessions designed to reinforce musculoskeletal(MSK)anatomy course *** synchronous sessions were co-taught by a group fitness instructor and an anatomy *** fitness instructor would lead students through both strength and yoga style exercises,while the anatomy instructor asked questions about relevant anatomical structures related to course material previously *** the sessions,participants were asked to evaluate the classes on their self-reported exam preparedness in improving MSK anatomy knowledge,PA levels,and mental *** participants completed surveys;a majority agreed that the classes increased understanding of MSK concepts(90.0%)and activity levels(97.7%).Many(70.0%)felt that the classes helped reduce *** majority of respondents(90.0%)agreed that the classes contributed to increased feelings of social ***,medical students saw benefit in PA based interventions to supplement MSK course *** with increasing activity levels and promoting health behaviours,integrating PA into medical curriculum may improve comprehension of learning material,alleviate stress and foster social connectivity among medical students.

Balance is an essential component of movement and is critical in the ability to participate in physical activity. Developing an exergaming curriculum for schools has the potential to improve balance or postural stability in children. In this study, a purposely-built exergaming center in an elementary school was used to test fourth grade students with a specially designed exergaming curriculum oriented toward improving postural stability. The program was implemented over a 6-week period, 34 min per day, 4-5 days per week. Two control groups were used：（1） a physical education （PE） class geared toward agility, balance, and coordination （ABC） improvement, and （2） a typical PE curriculum class. Exergaming students improved their postural stability significantly over a 6-week period compared to those in the typical PE class. Improvements in postural stability were also evident in the ABC class. Postural stability in the girls was better than the boys in all pre- and post-intervention tests. This study demonstrates that exergaming is a practical resource in the PE class to improve postural stability.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a 1-h downhill running exercise on the elbow flexor muscles’neuromuscular *** adults(Control[CON]:n=9;Experimental[EXP]:n=8)completed this *** CON rested for 30 min while the EXP performed the downhill ***,10 min,24 h,and 48 h after the interventions,dependent variables(knee extensor muscle soreness,elbow flexion and knee extension isometric strength,elbow flexion resting twitch and voluntary activation[VA],and the biceps surface electromyography[EMG]amplitude)were *** extensor muscle soreness was significantly greater in the EXP than the CON group following the intervention throughout the entire 48 *** was accompanied by the greater decline in the knee extension strength in the EXP than the CON(mean±SD:-6.9±3.4%vs.1.0±3.2%,p=0.044).The elbow flexion strength,VA,and EMG amplitude were not affected by the ***,the decline of the elbow flexion resting twitch was greater in the EXP than the CON(±19.6±6.3%vs.8.7±5.9%,p=0.003).Therefore,the downhill running impaired the remote elbow flexor muscles at a peripheral level.

To examine the contralateral repeated bout effect(CL-RBE)on muscle damage markers and motor unit(MU)control strategies,seventeen healthy adults performed two bouts of 60 eccentric contractions with elbow flexor(EF group;n=9)or index finger abductor(IA group;n=8)muscles,separated by 1 *** participants randomly performed eccentric exercise on either the right or left arm or hand muscles,and muscle damage markers and submaximal trapezoid contraction tests were conducted pre,post,1-and 2-day post eccentric *** week after the first bout,the same exercise protocol and measurements were performed on the contralateral *** electromyographic(EMG)signals were collected from biceps brachii(BB)or first dorsal interosseous(FDI)during maximal and submaximal *** linear regression analyses were used to examine MU recruitment threshold versus mean firing rate and recruitment threshold versus derecruitment threshold *** amplitude from BB(bout 1 *** 2=65.71%±22.92%vs.43.05%±18.97%,p=0.015,d=1.077)and the y-intercept(group merged)from the MU recruitment threshold versus derecruitment threshold relationship(bout 1 *** 2=7.10±14.20 vs.0.73±16.24,p=0.029,d=0.513)at 50%MVIC were significantly different between two ***,other muscle damage markers did not show any CL-RBE in both muscle ***,despite changes in muscle excitation and MU firing behavior,our results do not support the existence of CL-RBE on BB and FDI muscles.

We compared the effects of low intensity concentric(CON)and eccentric(ECC)exercise on the force and neural responses of the dominant(exercised)elbow flexors(EFs),and studied if these conditions could induce cross-over effects to the contralateral(non-exercised)*** subjects(8 males)completed all conditions(CON and ECC:6 sets of low intensity exercise to failure;control:rest)in separate visits with a randomized *** isometric force and electromyography(EMG)of the dominant and contralateral EFs were assessed at pre,immediate-,24-,and ***-factor(condition and time)linear mixed-model analyses were performed to examine the force and EMG *** post CON,contralateral EFs force was significantly(p=0.026)higher(12.41%)than control,but no cross-over effects regarding the neural responses were *** post ECC,dominant EFs force was significantly lower in ECC,compared to CON(p=0.003)and control(p<0.001).This force remained depressed at 24-and 48-h post ECC,when compared to CON(p<0.001)and control(p<0.001).Our data suggests that submaximal unilateral exercises are not likely to impair contralateral muscle strength ***,concentric exercises may acutely improve muscle strength for the contralateral ***,this effect is not explained by changes in muscle excitation.

Little information exists with regard to the relationship between leisure and coping mechanisms among people with physical *** purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships among leisure,coping,and personal growth among people with physical disabilities living in the *** a purposive sampling strategy,121 participants completed all 3 instruments:assessment of leisure and recreation involvement,coping strategy indicator,and personal ***,descriptive analysis,Pearson correlations,and path analysis were utilized to test the relationship between leisure involvement,coping strategies,and personal *** were statistically significant direct effects of leisure involvement and avoidance-withdrawal coping strategies on personal *** effects of social support seeking coping strategies and problem-solving coping strategies on personal growth were not statistically *** also indicated that leisure involvement had significant direct effects on social support seeking,avoidance-withdrawal,and problem-solving coping *** results demonstrated that leisure engagement was associated with coping strategies and personal *** particular,leisure engagement had direct effects on problem-solving coping,social seeking coping,and avoidance/withdrawal coping as well as a direct effect on personal growth.
