Navigating personal recovery:multinomial logistic regression analysis of schizophrenia outcomes in community-dwelling individuals

Background Schizophrenia is a chronic mental disorder affecting individuals globally,emphasising the significance of personal recovery in mental healthcare.Understanding the recovery stages and the associated factors can provide essential insights for targeted interventions.Aims This study aimed to discern the stages of personal recovery in Thai patients with schizophrenia and elucidate the associated factors with each stage.Methods A multistage sampling technique was employed,selecting 231 patients with schizophrenia from mental health outpatient departments of general and psychiatric hospitals.Data collected from March to May 2023 included screening for psychotic symptoms using the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale and six self-report questionnaires—Stage of Recovery Scale,Beck Cognitive Insight Scale,Brief Resilience Scale,Family Support,Therapeutic Relationship-Patients Version and Social Support Questionnaire—along with personal data sheets.Pearson correlation and multinomial logistic regression were performed.Results The predominant personal recovery stage among participants was stage 3,‘living with disabilities’,comprising 42.4%of the participants.Key factors contributing to personal recovery,explaining approximately 38.4%of the variance,included resilience,family support,therapeutic alliance,hospitalisations since onset and recovery-oriented nursing service utilisation.Logit equations for stages 3 and 4 are as follows:stage 3(living with disability):logit=−4.44+0.74×resilience+0.07×therapeutic alliance+0.02×recovery-oriented nursing service utilisation;stage 4(living beyond disability):logit=−11.57-0.05×hospitalisation since onset+1.96×resilience+0.11×family support+0.06×therapeutic alliance.Conclusion The findings emphasise the significance of mental health nursing interventions.In conjunction with recovery-oriented nursing services,strengthening resilience,therapeutic alliances and family support may accelerate personal recovery and reduce hospitalisations among individuals with schizophrenia.

Efficacy of intraovarian autologous platelet-rich plasma administration in women with low ovarian reserve: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective:To conduct a systematic examination and meta-analysis of the most reliable data from experimental studies evaluating the efficacy of autologous platelet-rich plasma(PRP)on low ovarian reserve.Methods:A comprehensive search was performed utilizing pertinent search terms across electronic databases,including PubMed,Cochrane,and Google Scholar.We included studies that assigned infertile women with low ovarian reserve in experimental studies.Ovarian reserve parameters were measured before and after PRP injection into ovaries.The data of each study was retrieved and subsequently compiled.Results:Of 301 articles collected and reviewed,six studies were finally included in the meta-analysis.Following PRP injection,infertile women showed a non-significant increase in anti-Mullerian hormone(AMH)level(MD=0.10;95%CI-0.04,0.23),a significant increase in antral follicular count(AFC)(MD=1.88;95%CI 0.47,3.29),and a non-significant reduction in follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH)level(MD=-0.22;95%CI-8.32,7.87).Conclusions:Autologous PRP may increase AFC,but not AMH.Although it is found beneficial in enhancing ovarian reserve(AFC),further research with strong evidence is still required.

Objective:Many strategic efforts were made to address nurses'shortage in controlling Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),including recruiting student health volunteers.This review aimed to explore the contribution and involvement of nursing student volunteers during COVID-19.Methods:A systematic review was registered in PROSPERO International CRD42021283069.Electronic databases for ar ticle search included:SCOPUS,EBSCO MEDLINE,Pub Med,Pro Quest,Springer,Sage Pub,and hand searching.The critical appraisal study quality using The Joanna Briggs Institutes.Data extraction and synthesis used Population,Intervention,Comparison,Outcome,and Design(PICO and D)framework with thematic analysis.Results:Twelve studies were enrolled from 2545 retrieved,with 4 synthesized themes:(1)determinant of the involvement of nursing student volunteers during COVID-19,which includes 3 subthemes:motivations,perception,and barriers,(2)expectations and actual condition of nursing students as volunteers,(3)the need for nursing student volunteers,and(4)the impact and level of student volunteers'contribution.All student volunteers contribute to providing direct or indirect services to patients.Conclusions:This review provides an overview of nursing student volunteers'needs useful in developing competency frameworks and the role of culturally sensitive volunteers in education and training.In the future,student volunteers could choose the appropriate volunteer program and location according to their competence.

Family journey in the process of recovery of schizophrenia:A qualitative study

Objective:The aim of this research is to explore the life experiences of schizophrenic families in accompanying the recovery process.Methods:This study uses a qualitative method with descriptive phenomenology to explain phenomena from family experiences.The number of the participants was eight families who had family members with schizophrenia.Sampling was determined by purposive sampling.Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using the Colaizzi method.Results:The results of this study show four themes that emerged including(1)psychological burden on the family,(2)families needing support in the recovery process,(3)obstacles due to social stigma,and(4)family gratitude for being able to pass the test patiently.Conclusion:The schizophrenia family’s journey in the recovery process is very long.They are required to endure in assisting the recovery process.Experiences felt by the family include feelings,obstacles,and hopes that arise in carrying out their role to assist the recovery process which aims to improve the health of schizophrenia patients.The findings from this study provide insight for nurses to be able to pay attention to family psychological problems by strengthening families through home visits and health promotion related to the recovery process of survivor schizophrenia.

Changes in acute and late toxicity and patient-reported health-related quality of life following radiotherapy in women with breast cancer:A 1-year longitudinal study

Objective:The objective of this study was to investigate the frequency of acute and late toxicities,as well as changes in the quality of life(QOL)for breast cancer patients following radiotherapy(RT).Materials and Methods:A total of 108 breast cancer women were recruited for this prospective study.Data were collected at various intervals;prior to,and 1,3,6 months,and 1 year after radiation therapy.The primary outcomes were toxicity radiation therapy oncology group/European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer(EORTC)criteria.Our secondary outcome was QOL,measured using EORTC QLQ-C30 and Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale.We employed Friedman’s two-way analysis to evaluate the changes in QOL over the course of 1 year.Results:The early toxicities that are most commonly experienced include pharyngeal,skin,and mucous membrane toxicity.Late toxicities frequently involve skin and submucosal toxicity.To measure patient functionality,all functional subscale scores except for the patient’s emotional state increased over time compared to pre-RT.Symptoms of the patients,which were included in the QOL symptom scale,decreased during the follow-up period,except for fatigue;however,changes in pain,insomnia,and loss of appetite did not significantly change.We identified the analogous symptom profiles in Edmonton.Although patients’overall health scores declined in the 1st and 3rd months after radiotherapy(RT),they rebounded at 6 and 12 months.Conclusion:For breast cancer patients,RT did not adversely affect functional capacity or exacerbate symptoms,but persistent fatigue did increase during the observation period.health-care professionals ought to devise strategies to assist patients with skin toxicity and fatigue.

Factors associated with the incidence of patient falls in hospitals:A scoping review

When a patient falls within a hospital setting,there is a significant increase in the risk of severe injury or health complications.Recognizing factors associated with such falls is crucial to mitigate their impact on patient safety.This review seeks to analyze the factors contributing to patient falls in hospitals.The main goal is to enhance our understanding of the reasons behind these falls,enabling hospitals to devise more effective prevention strategies.This study reviewed literature published from 2013 to 2022,using the Arksey and O’Malley methodology for a scoping review.The research literature was searched from seven databases,namely,PubMed,ScienceDirect,Wiley Library,Garuda,Global Index Medicus,Emerald Insight,and Google Scholar.The inclusion criteria comprised both qualitative and quantitative primary and secondary data studies centered on hospitalized patients.Out of the 893 studies analyzed,23 met the criteria and were included in this review.Although there is not an abundance of relevant literature,this review identified several factors associated with falls in hospitals.These encompass environmental,patient,staff,and medical factors.This study offers valuable insights for hospitals and medical personnel aiming to enhance fall prevention practices.Effective prevention efforts should prioritize early identification of patient risk factors,enhancement of the care environment,thorough training for care staff,and vigilant supervision of high-risk patients.By comprehending the factors that contribute to patient falls,hospitals can bolster patient safety and mitigate the adverse effects of falls within the health-care setting.

Peer pressure and academic stress among junior high school students:a cross-sectional study

Objective:The objective of the study was to explore the connection between peer pressure and academic stress among junior high school students.Methods:This descriptive correlational study was conducted to investigate the link between perceived peer pressure and academic stress.The study involved a total of 525 adolescents,aged 14-19 years,drawn from 6 public junior high schools(PJHS)in Padang,Indonesia,using purposive sampling.Academic stress and perceived peer pressure were assessed using the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents(ESSA)and the Perceived Peer Pressure Scale(PPPS).Results:The findings indicated significant variations in stress levels among students in different grade levels(7th,8th,and 9th grades)(P0.05).Additionally,there was a positive correlation observed between perceived peer pressure and academic stress(r=0.14,P<0.05).Furthermore,multiple regression analyses,incorporating demographic variables and perceived peer pressure as independent factors,yielded statistically significant results(adjusted R^(2)=0.082,F=4.33,P<0.001).Notably,peer pressure had a direct impact on academic stress among adolescents,with class level and parents’educational background mediating the relationship between academic stress and adolescent behavioral problems.Conclusions:These findings underscore the importance of addressing both external and internal factors at the individual,family,school,and societal levels to enhance adolescents’psychological resilience and mitigate problem behaviors.

Irregular dietary habits as a predictor of stunting occurrence among children under 5 years of age:a literature review

Objective:To identify the illustration of feeding patterns of stunting children using literature review method.Methods:This study was a descriptive narrative research using literature review approach to explore dietary habits of children with stunting problem.All the literature review processes employed Guideline Review measurement of Joanna Briggs Institute.Related ar ticles in literature were obtained from journal databases,such as Pub Med,Science Direct,Google Scholar,and Dimensions through structured research question with Patient,Exposure an interest,Outcome or response(PEO)methods.Results:This study found 2246 published ar ticles from 2018 to 2021 about children with stunting.Screening process was conducted fur ther to eliminate ar ticles with irrelevant titles and abstracts,and also the unsuitable ar ticles with the research question;hence,about 9 ar ticles were eligible to be reviewed ahead.All these ar ticles mentioned that children with irregular dietary habits would likely experience stunting.The low intake of nutritional food became the major predictor of stunting.Conclusions:Inappropriate feeding patterns and the variety of food were being the factors of stunting emergence among children<5 years of age.High consumption of carbohydrates,less animal-based protein,and misunderstanding about intake of sweetenedcondensed milk predisposed children to suffer stunting.

Evaluating the influence of a structured nursing protocol on targeted outcomes in rheumatoid arthritis patients

Objective:Rheumatoid arthritis(RA)requires comprehensive management.Structured nursing protocols may enhance outcomes,but evidence is limited.This study evaluated the effect of a structured nursing protocol on RA outcomes.Materials and Methods:In this one-group pre-post study,30 Egyptian RA patients completed assessments before and after a 12-week nursing protocol comprising education,psychosocial support,and self-management promotion.Assessments included clinical evaluation of joint counts,erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR),and C-reactive protein(CRP)and patient-reported Arthritis Self-Efficacy Scale(ASES),health Assessment Questionnaire(HAQ),Visual Analog Scale(VAS)for pain,and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HADS).Results:The study demonstrated significant improvements in both clinical-and patient-reported outcomes.Joint count decreased from 18.4±4.2 to 14.2±3.8(Pnursing protocol significantly improved clinical disease activity,physical functioning,pain,self-efficacy,and emotional well-being in RA patients.A multifaceted nursing intervention appears beneficial for optimizing RA outcomes.

Insulin is used as a therapeutic agent in patients with diabetes,and cutaneous lipohypertrophy(LH)and localized insulin-derived amyloidosis(LIDA)are well-known adverse effects associated with insulin injections.The clinical implications,management,assessment methods,and pathological differentiation of LH and LIDA have been recently updated.This review was to update our knowledge of the pathological differentiation,effects of insulin absorption,hypoglycemic events,and recent assessment methods for LH and LIDA.A scoping review was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews guidelines.Original studies and case reports in English were also included.PubMed and Scopus databases were searched for keywords to identify papers published up to January 2022.A total of 113 studies were identified through a database search,and 31 were eligible for inclusion in this scoping review.In the 31 studies included in this review,patients with type 2 diabetes had high frequencies of LH and LIDA.LH outcome parameters were assessed using pathological findings and imaging.LIDA is mainly determined by pathological methods,such as hematoxylin and eosin and Congo red staining.Several in vitro and in vivo LIDA models of LIDA have been developed.These results suggest that pathological analysis is required to identify LH and LIDA.It is important to consider LIDA,as it likely influences insulin adsorption and glycemic control.Although several studies have evaluated the LIDA process,little is known about the mechanisms underlying the development of adverse effects associated with insulin injections.
