Heavy metals and their source identification in particulate matter(PM_(2.5)) in Isfahan City, Iran

The presence of heavy metals（HMs） in particulate matters（PMs） particularly fine particles such as PM2.5 poses potential risk to the health of human being. The purpose of this study was to analyze the contents of HMs in PM2.5 in the atmospheric monitoring stations in Isfahan city,Iran, in different seasons between March 2014 and March 2015 and their source identification using principle component analysis（PCA）. The samples of PM2.5 were taken using a high volume sampler in 7 monitoring stations located throughout the city and industrial zones since March 2014 to March 2015. The HMs content of the samples was measured using *** results showed that the concentrations of As, Cd and Ni were in a range of 23–36, 1–12,and 5–76 ng/m3 at all the stations which exceeded the US-EPA standards. Furthermore,the concentrations of Cr and Cu reached to 153 and 167 ng/m3 in some stations which were also higher than the standard levels. Depending on the potential sources of HMs, their concentration in PM2.5 through the various seasons was different. PCA illustrated that the different potential sources of HMs in the atmosphere, showing that the most important sources of HMs originated from fossil fuel combustion, abrasion of vehicle tires, industrial activities（e.g., iron and steel industries） and dust storms. Management and control of air pollution of industrial plants and vehicles are suggested for decreasing the risk of the HMs in the region.

The active Sagaing fault in Myanmar defines the boundary between the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate and causes seismic damage in the major cities of Myanmar. Small bodies of serpentinite occur along the fault. We for the first time investigated the highly sheared serpentinite bodies in the Sheinmagar area and Yega Inn area along the Sagaing fault. Extensively sheared/brecciated serpentinites and related rocks, such as talc and/or chlorite-bearing rocks contains small rock fragments of serpentinites. Serpentine texture and mineral chemistry indicate that the protolith of these serpentinites were mainly harzburgite with minor amounts of dunite, some of which are cut by gabbroic veins. No shape-preferred orientation of the antigorite is present, indicating that the serpentinization was occurred under relatively static conditions. Protolith and serpentine minerals are similar to those of the jadeitite-bearing serpentinites in the north of the Sagaing fault(the Jade Mine belt). Chemical variations of spinels in the studied area are within the compositional range of forearc peridotites and those in the mantle section of nearby ophiolites. After the formation of antigorite serpentinite under static conditions, these serpentinites were subsequently, but locally deformed, probably due to the activity of the Sagaing fault, resulting in the formation of serpentinite schist/brecciated rock. The presence of the less-deformed antigorite serpentinite in the sheared/brecciated zone indicates the strain localization mainly along the surrounding serpentine-talc(±chlorite) schistose rocks, which is probably formed by the reaction between serpentinite and country rocks. Further studies are needed to better understand whether the distribution of serpentinized peridotites cause variations in the activity of the Sagaing fault.

TEM and HRTEM Study of Microstructures in Omphacite from UHP Eclogites at Shima,Dabie Mountains,china

Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) analyses have been performed on omphacite from ultra-high pressure (UHP) eclogites at the locality of Shima, Dabie Mountains, china. TEM reveals that the microstructures consist dominantly of dislocation substructures, including free dislocations, loops, tiltwalls, dislocation tangles and subboundaries. They were produced by high-temperature ductile deformation, of which the main mechanism was dislocation creep. Antiphase domain (APD) boundaries are common planar defects; an age of 470 ± 6 Ma for UHP eclogite formation has been obtained from the equiaxial size of APDs in ordered omphacites from Shima, coincident with ages given by single-zircon U-Pb dating (471 ± 2 Ma). HRTEM reveals C2/c and P2/n space groups in different parts of one single omphacite crystal, and no exsolution is observed in the studied samples, which is attributed to rapid cooling. It is suggested that the UHP eclogites underwent a long period of annealing at high temperatures, followed by relatively rapid cooling. These data provide valuable information for the formation and exhumation mechanism of UHP eclogites in the Dabie high-pressure (HP) and UHP metamorphic belt.

Caledonian reworking of Paleoproterozoic basement in the Cathaysia Block: Constraints from zircon U-Pb dating, Hf isotopes and trace elements

A combined study of zircon U-Pb dating, Hf isotopes and trace elements has been carried out for granodioritic neosomes of migmatites from the Tianjingping area in northwestern Fujian Province. Zircons are characterized by zoning, higher Th/U ratios (mostly ≥0.1), HREE enrichment, and positive Ce and negative Eu anomalies, and show features similar to magmatic or anatectic zircons. Apparent 206Pb/238U ages for the zircons are 447±2 Ma (95% conf., MSWD = 0.88), corresponding to a Caledonian event. εHf(t) values are ?13.3 to ?9.7, indicating a crustal source. Two-stage Hf model ages are 1.7 to 1.9 Ga, suggesting that protolith of the migmates was probably formed in the Paleoproterozoic. The granodioritic neosomes have the characteristics of peraluminous calc-alkaline granite, and their REE patterns and trace elements spidergrams show features of middle to upper crustal rocks. Together with previous studies, we conclude that the protolith of the Cathaysia basement in the Tianjingping area was likely formed in the middle-late Paleoproterozoic and experienced partial melting during the Caledonian period. The recognition of Caledonian reworking of the Paleoproterozoic basement in the Cathaysia Block provides a new insight into the tectonic evolution of the Cathaysia Block in the Caledonian pe- riod and the interaction between the Cathaysia Block and the Yangtze Block.

Experimental studies of biomass gasification with air

In this work, experimental studies of biomass gasification under different operating conditions were carried out in an updraft gasifier combined with a copper slag reformer. The influence of gasification temperature, equivalence ratio （ER） and copper slag catalyst addition on gas production and tar yield were investigated. The experimental results showed that the content of H2 and CO, gas yield and LHV increased, while the tar yield and the content of CO2, CH4 and C2Hx in the gas product decreased with the temperature. At 800℃, with the increase of ER, the LHV, the tar yield and the content of H2, CO, CH4 and C2H2 in gas products decreased, while the gas yield and the content of CO2 increased. Copper slag was introduced into the secondary reformer for tar decomposition. The Fe3O4 phase in the fresh copper slag was reduced to FeO （Fe^2＋） and metallic Fe by the gas product. Fe species （FeO and metallic Fe） acted as the active sites for tar catalytic decomposition. The catalytic temperature had a significant influence on tar conversion and the composition of the gas product. Typically, the tar conversion of about 17%-54% could be achieved when the catalytic temperature was varied from 750 to 950 ℃. Also, the content of H2 and CO increased with the catalytic temperature, while that of CO2, CH4 and C2Hx in the gas product decreased. It was demonstrated that copper slag was a good catalyst for upgrading the gas product from biomass gasification.

Finite element method is used to study the formations of the penetration jet,the bulge,and the burr in the designed reusable perforating *** attached layer of the soft metal on the perforator is studied for the controlling of the bulge height on the casing of the reusable perforating *** indicate that the shaped charge jet is initially formed in the center of the shaped charge liner and then the material of the liner is driven to the centerline of the liner by the detonation *** attachment of the soft metal layer to the cartridge of the perforator can be beneficial to control the bulge *** design on the blind holes on the casing can affect the burr height formed by the collision between the jet and the *** the increase in the liner angle,the penetration width on the cement wall of the wellbore is increased.

Geochemical characteristics and origin of the Neoproterozoic high-K calc-alkaline granitoids in the northern part of Mandara hills,northeastern Nigeria

The high-K calc-alkaline granitoids in the northern part of the Mandara Hills are part of the wellexposed post-collisional plutons in northeastern *** calc-alkaline rock association consists of quartz monzodiorite,hornblende biotite granite,biotite granites and aplite which intruded the older basement consisting mainly of low-lying migmatitic gneisses and amphibolites during the Neoproterozoic Pan-African *** and geochemical studies have revealed the presence of hornblende,iron oxide,and metaluminous to slightly peraluminous characteristics in the granitoids which is typical of I-type *** granitoids are also depleted in some high field strength elements(*** and Ta) as well as *** of Mg#versus SiO2 indicate that the granite was derived from partial melting of crustal *** delamination at the waning stage of the PanAfrican Orogeny possibly triggered upwelling of hot mafic magma from the mantle which underplated the lower ***,in turn,caused partial melting and magma generation at the lower to middle-crustal ***,the peculiar geochemical characteristics of the quartz monzodiorite especially the enrichment in compatible elements such as MgO,Cr,and Ni,as well as LILE element(e.g.K,Ce,Cs,Ba,and Sr),signify that the rock formed from an enriched upper mantle *** emplacement of high-K granites in the Madara Hill,therefore,marked an important episode of crustal reworking during the ***,further isotopic work is needed to confirm this model.

Optimization of Mortar Compressive Strength Prepared with Waste Glass Aggregate and Coir Fiber Addition Using Response Surface Methodology

Waste Glass(WGs)and Coir Fiber(CF)are not widely utilized,even though their silica and cellulose content can be used to create construction *** study aimed to optimize mortar compressive strength using Response Surface Methodology(RSM).The Central Composite Design(CCD)was applied to determine the optimization of WGs and CF addition to the mortar compressive *** strength and microstructure testing with Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM),Fourier-transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FT-IR),and X-Ray Diffraction(XRD)were conducted to specify the mechanical ability and bonding between the matrix,CF,and *** results showed that the chemical treatment of CF produced 49.15%cellulose,with an average particle size of 1521μ*** regression of a second-order polynomial model yielded an optimum composition consisting of 12.776%WGs and 2.344%CF with a predicted compressive strength of 19.1023 MPa.C-S-H gels were identified in the mortars due to the dissolving of SiO_(2) in WGs and *** silica from WGs increased the C-S-H *** plays a role in preventing,bridging,and branching micro-cracks before reaching maximum *** aggregates and chemically treated CF are suitable to be composited in mortar to increase compressive strength.

Analyzing Asymmetric City Connectivity by Toponym on Social Media in china

The connectedness between cities has become one of the most widely discussed topics in urban and regional research in the mobile and big data era. One problem identified is the asymmetric city connectivity, partially due to data availability. We present a data-driven approach based on location and toponym(place name) extracted from social media data, to assess the asymmetric connectivity between cities. The assumption is that a higher frequency of occurrences of the name of city i in posts located in city j would imply that the city i is more influential than other cities upon city j. In addition, we’ve developed a group of measurements such as the relatedness index, impact index, link strength index, dependence index, and structure similar index to characterize such interactions. This framework of connectivity measurements can also be used to support smart planning taking into account the evolving interplay among cities. The space-time structure of urban systems in china is examined as the case study.
