Risk-based maintenance scheduling of generating units in the deregulated environment considering transmission network congestion

In restructured power systems,the traditional approaches of unit maintenance scheduling(UMS)need to undergo major changes in order to be compatible with new competitive *** the maintenance on generating units may decrease the security level of transmission network and result in electricity shortage in power system;as a result,it can impose a kind of cost on transmission network as called security ***,taking off line a generating unit for performing maintenance can change power flow in some transmission lines,and may lead to network *** this study,generating unit maintenance is scheduled considering security and congestion cost with N-1 examination for transmission lines random *** proposed UMS approach would lead to optimum operation of power system in terms of economy and *** achieve this goal,the optimal power flow(OPF)compatible with market mechanism is ***,the electricity price discovery mechanism as locational marginal pricing(LMP)is restated to analyze the impacts of UMS on nodal electricity *** security and congestion cost simultaneously,this novel approach can reveal some new costs which are imposed to transmission network on behalf of generation units;as a result,it provides a great opportunity to perform maintenance in a fair environment for both generating companies(GenCo)and transmission companies(TransCo).At the end,simulation results on nine-bus test power system demonstrate that by using this method,the proposed UMS can guarantee fairness among market participants including GenCos and TransCo and ensure power system security.

This research addresses the new level-direction decomposition in the area of image watermarking as the further development of investigations. The main process of realizing a watermarking framework is to generate a watermarked image with a focus on contourlet embedding representation. The approach performance is evaluated through several indices including the peak signal-to-noise ratio and structural similarity, whereby a set of attacks are carried out using a module of simulated attacks. The obtained information is analyzed through a set of images, using different color models, to enable the calculation of normal correlation. The module of the inverse of contourlet embedding representation is correspondingly employed to obtain the present watermarked image, as long as a number of original images are applied to a scrambling module, to represent the information in disorder. This allows us to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach by analyzing a complicated system, where a decision making system is designed to find the best level and the corresponding direction regarding contourlet embedding representation. The results are illustrated in appropriate level-direction decomposition. The key contribution lies in using a new integration of a set of subsystems, employed based upon the novel mechanism in contourlet embedding representation, in association with the decision making system. The presented approach is efficient compared with state-of-the-art approaches, under a number of serious attacks. A number of benchmarks are obtained and considered along with the proposed framework outcomes. The results support our ideas.

Highly crystalline β-type strontium hydrogen phosphate （β-SrHPO4） nanosheets were prepared by a hydro- thermal method and used for the immobilization of lead ions （Pb2＋） from acidic aqueous solution. The effects of various parameters on the immobilization process, including solution pH value, contact time, initial ion concentrations, and coexistent competing cations, were studied to optimize the conditions for maximum immobilization. The β-SrHPO4 nanosheets exhibited a capacity of （1,120 ± 22） mg/g toward Pb2＋ in acidic solution （pH value is 3.0）, and the equilibrium was achieved within 8 rain. The competing cations such as Cu2＋, Zn2＋, Cd2＋, and Co2＋ affected slightly on the selective immobilization of Pb2＋. The results revealed that the removal mechanism of Pb2＋ by the β-SrHPO4 nanosheets was the dissolution/precipitation process in the acidic solution.

In this paper, a passive neuro-wavelet based islanding detection technique for grid-connected inverter- based distributed generation was developed. The weight parameters of the neural network were optimized by intelligent water drop （IWD） to improve the capability of the proposed technique in the proposed problem. The proposed method utilizes and combines wavelet analysis and artificial neural network （ANN） to detect islanding. Connecting distributed generator to the distribution net- work has many benefits such as increasing the capacity of the grid and enhancing the power quality. However, it gives rise to many problems. This is mainly due to the fact that distribution networks are designed without any generation units at that level. Hence, integrating distributed generators into the existing distribution network is not problem-free. Unintentional islanding is one of the encountered problems. Discrete wavelet transform （DWT） is capable of decomposing the signals into different frequency bands. It can be utilized in extracting discrimi- native features from the acquired voltage signals. In passive schemes with a large non-detection zone （NDZ）, concern has been raised on active method due to its degrading power quality effect. The main emphasis of the proposed scheme is to reduce the NDZ to as close as possible and to keep the output power quality unchanged. The simulation results from Matlab/Simulink shows that the proposed method has a small non-detection zone, and is capable of detecting islanding accurately within the minimum standard time.

A data-mining approach to biomarker identification from protein profiles using discrete stationary wavelet transform

Objective: To develop a new bioinformatic tool based on a data-mining approach for extraction of the most infor- mative proteins that could be used to find the potential biomarkers for the detection of cancer. Methods: Two independent datasets from serum samples of 253 ovarian cancer and 167 breast cancer patients were used. The samples were examined by surface- enhanced laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (SELDI-TOF MS). The datasets were used to extract the informative proteins using a data-mining method in the discrete stationary wavelet transform domain. As a dimensionality re- duction procedure, the hard thresholding method was applied to reduce the number of wavelet coefficients. Also, a distance measure was used to select the most discriminative coefficients. To find the potential biomarkers using the selected wavelet coefficients, we applied the inverse discrete stationary wavelet transform combined with a two-sided t-test. Results: From the ovarian cancer dataset, a set of five proteins were detected as potential biomarkers that could be used to identify the cancer patients from the healthy cases with accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of 100%. Also, from the breast cancer dataset, a set of eight proteins were found as the potential biomarkers that could separate the healthy cases from the cancer patients with accuracy of 98.26%, sensitivity of 100%, and specificity of 95.6%. Conclusion: The results have shown that the new bioinformatic tool can be used in combination with the high-throughput proteomic data such as SELDI-TOF MS to find the potential biomarkers with high discriminative power.

A wireless sensor network （WSN） commonly whilst a body sensor network （BSN） must be secured with requires lower level security for public information gathering, strong authenticity to protect personal health information. In this paper, some practical problems with the message authentication codes （MACs）, which were proposed in the popular security architectures for WSNs, are reconsidered. The analysis shows that the recommended MACs for WSNs, e.g., CBC- MAC （TinySec）, OCB-MAC （MiniSec）, and XCBC-MAC （SenSee）, might not be exactly suitable for BSNs. Particularly an existential forgery attack is elaborated on XCBC-MAC. Considering the hardware limitations of BSNs, we propose a new family of tunable lightweight MAC based on the PRESENT block cipher. The first scheme, which is named TukP, is a new lightweight MAC with 64-bit output range. The second scheme, which is named TuLP-128, is a 128-bit variant which provides a higher resistance against internal collisions. Compared with the existing schemes, our lightweight MACs are both time and resource efficient on hardware-constrained devices.

Aiming at the multi-objective polarity design of Mixed-polarity Reed-Muller(MPRM) circuit,such as small area and low power consumption, an integrated polarity optimization scheme based on improved Multi-objective particle swarm optimization(MOPSO) is proposed. In the Improved MOPSO(IMOPSO) algorithm,particles in the external archive can be actively evolved through self-learning operations to find better circuit polarity. The particles in the population achieve selflearning fractals by comparing the differences between their own states and individuals in external archive to enhance the evolutionary level of the population. A multiobjective decision model of area and power consumption is established according to the characteristics of MPRM circuit. The tabular technique and the IMPOPO algorithm are combined to obtain the Pareto optimal polarity set of the MPRM circuit for area and power consumption. The MCNC Benchmark circuit is used to test the performance of the algorithm. The results verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

This pilot study focuses on a real measurements and enhancements of a software defined radio-based system for vehicle-to everything visible light communication(SDR-V2X-VLC).The presented system is based on a novel adaptive optimization of the feed-forward software defined equalization(FFSDE)methods of the least mean squares(LMS),normalized LMS(NLMS)and QR decomposition-based recursive least squares(QR-RLS)*** parameters of adaptive equalizations are adjusted in real-time to reach the best possible *** were carried out on a conventional LED Octavia III taillight drafted directly from production line and universal software radio peripherals(USRP)from National *** transmitting/receiving elements used multistate quadrature amplitude modulation(M-QAM)implemented in LabVIEW programming *** results were verified based on bit error ratio(BER),error vector magnitude(EVM)and modulation error ratio(MER).Experimental results of the pilot study unambiguously confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed solution(longer effective communication range,higher immunity to interference,deployment of higher state QAM modulation formats,higher transmission speeds etc.),as the adaptive equalization significantly improved BER,MER and EVM *** best results were achieved using the QR-RLS *** results measured on deployed QR-RLS algorithm had significantly better Eb/N0(improved by approx.20 dB)and BER values(difference by up to two orders of magnitude).
