Instance reduction for supervised learning using input-output clustering method

A method that applies clustering technique to reduce the number of samples of large data sets using input-output clustering is *** proposed method clusters the output data into groups and clusters the input data in accordance with the groups of output ***,a set of prototypes are selected from the clustered input *** inessential data can be ultimately discarded from the data *** proposed method can reduce the effect from outliers because only the prototypes are *** method is applied to reduce the data set in regression *** standard synthetic data sets and three standard real-world data sets are used for *** root-mean-square errors are compared from support vector regression models trained with the original data sets and the corresponding instance-reduced data *** the experiments,the proposed method provides good results on the reduction and the reconstruction of the standard synthetic and real-world data *** numbers of instances of the synthetic data sets are decreased by 25%-69%.The reduction rates for the real-world data sets of the automobile miles per gallon and the 1990 census in CA are 46% and 57%,*** reduction rate of 96% is very good for the electrocardiogram(ECG) data set because of the redundant and periodic nature of ECG *** all of the data sets,the regression results are similar to those from the corresponding original data ***,the regression performance of the proposed method is good while only a fraction of the data is needed in the training process.

MODIS image super-resolution via learned topic dictionaries and regression matrices

Moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer(MODIS) imaging has various applications in the field of ground monitoring,cloud classification and meteorological ***,the limitations of the sensors and external disturbance make the resolution of image still limited in a certain *** goal of this paper is to use a single image super-resolution(SISR) method to predict a high-resolution(HR) MODIS image from a single low-resolution(LR) ***,although the method based on sparse representation has tackled the ill-posed problem effectively,two fatal issues have been ***,many methods ignore the relationships among patches,resulting in some unfaithful ***,the high computational complexity of sparse coding using l_1 norm is needed in reconstruction *** this work,we discover the semantic relationships among LR patches and the corresponding HR patches and group the documents with similar semantic into topics by probabilistic Latent Semantic Analysis(p LSA).Then,we can learn dual dictionaries for each topic in the low-resolution(LR) patch space and high-resolution(HR) patch space and also pre-compute corresponding regression matrices for dictionary ***,for the test image,we infer locally which topic it corresponds to and adaptive to select the regression matrix to reconstruct HR image by semantic *** method discovered the relationships among patches and pre-computed the regression matrices for ***,our method can greatly reduce the artifacts and get some speed-up in the reconstruction *** manifests that our method performs MODIS image super-resolution effectively,results in higher PSNR,reconstructs faster,and gets better visual quality than some current state-of-art methods.

Switchable Capacitor Bank Coordination and Dynamic Network Reconfiguration for Improving Operation of Distribution Network Integrated with Renewable Energy Resources

Point of common coupling(PCC)arrays are the most prominent and widely-used intermittent distributed generations(DGs).Due to the right-of-way,environmental,economical and other restrictions,the connection of these types of DGs to the preferred point of the distribution network is very difficult or impossible in some ***,because of non-optimal locations,they may cause a voltage rise at the *** this paper,a coordinated design of switchable capacitor banks(SCBs)with dynamic reconfiguration of the distribution network is proposed to avoid low-and high-voltage *** distribution network reconfiguration is implemented to mitigate the voltage rise at PCCs and capacitor banks(CBs)to solve the low-voltage problem.A novel method is presented for determining the optimal size of *** proposed capacitor sizing method(CSM)effectively determines the optimal values of reactive power for the given *** optimal locations of SCB are determined using particle swarm optimization *** 24-hour reactive power curve optimized by the proposed method plays a pivotal role in designing *** simulation results show that the implementation of the dynamic network reconfiguration and the placement of SCB is required to maintain a standard voltage profile for better employment of DG embedded distribution networks.

High-performance traveling-wave electroabsorption modulators utilizing mushroom-type waveguide and periodic transmission line loading

For the first time, periodic loaded electrodes and mushroom-type waveguide are combined to improve the performance of traveling-wave electroabsorption modulators (TWEAMs) based on the asymmetric intra-step-barrier coupled double strained quantum well (AICD-SQW). The electrical modulation response of periodic mushroom-type TWEAM is obtained by using equivalent circuit model, and is compared with simulation result of conventional mushroom-type TWEAM counterpart. The equivalent circuit model simulation results indicate that for the exemplary modulation length of 300 mm, the mushroom-type TWEAM with periodic transmission line loading can achieve much wider bandwidth about 99.7 GHz and 43.1 GHz than the conventional counterpart with about 43 GHz and 33 GHz for 35 W and 45 W terminations, respectively.

Green Architecture for Dense Home Area Networks Based on Radio-over-Fiber with Data Aggregation Approach

The high-density population leads to crowded cities. The future city is envisaged to encompass a large-scale network with diverse applications and a massive number of interconnected heterogeneous wireless-enabled devices. Hence, green technology elements are crucial to design sustainable and future-proof network architectures. They are the solutions for spectrum scarcity, high latency, interference, energy efficiency, and scalability that occur in dense and heterogeneous wireless networks especially in the home area network （HAN）. Radio-over-fiber （ROF） is a technology candidate to provide a global view of HAN＇s activities that can be leveraged to allocate orthogonal channel communications for enabling wireless-enabled HAN devices transmission, with considering the clustered-frequency-reuse approach. Our proposed network architecture design is mainly focused on enhancing the network throughput and reducing the average network communications latency by proposing a data aggregation unit （DAU）. The performance shows that with the DAU, the average network communications latency reduces significantly while the network throughput is enhanced, compared with the existing ROF architecture without the DAU.

High-performance optical wavelength-selective switch-es based on double ring resonators

In order to improve the performance of optical wavelength-selective switches based on double micro-ring resonators, an asymmetric intra-step-barrier coupled double strained quantum wells (AICD-SQWs) structure is utilized as the active light guiding medium. The AICD-SQW active layer has advantages, such as large change range in absorption coefficient, high extinction ratio, large Stark shift and very low insertion. For predicting the switching characteristics of double ring resonators structure, the absorption coefficient and real refractive index changes of the AICD-SQW active layer are calculated for different applied electric fields for TE input light polarization. Simulation results show that switching characteristics strongly depend on changes in absorption coefficient and real refractive index of active layer. In addition, isolations of 37.44 dB and 26.84 dB are realized between drop and through ports, when drop and through ports are ON and OFF, respectively, and vice versa.

Exponential Nonlinear Observer Based on the Differential State-dependent Riccati Equation

This paper presents a novel nonlinear continuous-time observer based on the differential state-dependent Riccati equation (SDRE) filter with guaranteed exponential stability. Although impressive results have rapidly emerged from the use of SDRE designs for observers and filters, the underlying theory is yet scant and there remain many unanswered questions such as stability and convergence. In this paper, Lyapunov stability analysis is utilized in order to obtain the required conditions for exponential stability of the estimation error dynamics. We prove that under specific conditions, the proposed observer is at least locally exponentially stable. Moreover, a new definition of a detectable state-dependent factorization is introduced, and a close relation between the uniform detectability of the nonlinear system and the boundedness property of the state-dependent differential Riccati equation is established. Furthermore, through a simulation study of a second order nonlinear model, which satisfies the stability conditions, the promising performance of the proposed observer is demonstrated. Finally, in order to examine the effectiveness of the proposed method, it is applied to the highly nonlinear flux and angular velocity estimation problem for induction machines. The simulation results verify how effectively this modification can increase the region of attraction and the observer error decay rate.
