Assessment of SoilGrids data for soil erosion estimation at watershed scale: A case study in northern Thailand

Recovery of rare earth elements from rare earth molten salt electrolytic slag via fluorine fixation by MgCl2 roasting

Rare earth fluoride molten-salt electrolytic slag（REFES） is a precious rare earth element（REE） secondary resource,and conside rable amounts of REEs exist in REFES as REF3;they are difficult to dissolve in acid or water and impede efficient REE *** REFES recovery,the REF3species in REFES are usually transformed into acid-soluble rare earth compounds by NaOH roasting or sulfating roasting and then extracted by acid leaching,Moreover,the fluorides in REFES are released as HF gas in the roasting process or enter the liquid phase during the water washing process;both of these processes cause fluorine *** the fluorine into the solid slag provides a way to avoid fluorine *** this study,a novel method was proposed to extract REEs from REFES via MgCl2roasting followed by HCl *** calculations and the rmogravimetry-differential thermal analyses（TG-DTA） were conducted to investigate the reactions occurring in the roasting process,First,MgCl2reacts with the REF3and RE2O3to form RECl3and REOCl,***,the RECI3absorbs water and forms RE（OH）***,MgCl2·6H2O is gradually dehydrated to MgCl2·2H2O and reacts with REF3and RE（OH）3,and REOCl,MgF2and MgO are *** HCl leaching,the REOCl in the roasting products is leached by HCl acid,while fluoride re mains in the solid slag as *** optimum experimental conditions are as follows:mass ratio of MgCl2to REFES of 30%,roasting temperature of 700℃,roasting time of 2 h,hydrochloride acid concentration of 4 mol/L,leaching time of 2 h,leaching temperature of 90 ℃ and leaching L/S ratio of 20:*** efficiencies for total leaching of the REEs,La,Ce,Pr,and Nd are 99.13%,99.20%,98.42%,99.38%,and 99.08%,***,the concentration of fluoride in the leaching solution is 2.191×10-6mol/*** method has a short process flow with low reagent costs,and the problem of fluoride pollution from REFES recovery is solved;thus,our study has great industrial application pot

Petrogenesis and Tectonic Significance of Shenxianshui Alkaline Granite in Gejiu,Yunnan Province,China

The Shenxianshui granites in the western Gejiu area were formed in the Late *** ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry indicates zircon U-Pb ages ranging from 90.67±0.7 to 85.97±0.6 *** intrusive rocks are peraluminous(A/CNK=1.03 to 1.33)and calc-alkaline,showing an affinity towards I-type *** ion lithophilic elements are enriched in K and Rb,while high field strength elements are ***,light rare earth elements are significantly enriched,showing a slight negative Eu anomaly(Eu/Eu^(*)=0.39 to 0.58).Shenxianshui granite has a relatively high initial Sr isotope ratio(^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr)_(i)(0.7098-0.7105),negative ε_(Nd)(t)values(−7.99 to−7.44)and negative ε_(Hf)(t)values(−8.37 to−2.58).Combined with previous studies,these characteristics suggest that the Shenxianshui alkaline granites were formed in a post-collision extensional *** alkaline granitic magma possibly originated from the partial melting of the lower crust during the Mesoproterozoic era and may have contained mantle source *** alkaline granite was formed from mixed magma with a high degree of crystal *** abundance of ore-forming elements indicates that Shenxianshui granite has the potential to mineralize key metals and rare earth elements.

Novel Cs-Mg-Al mixed oxide with improved mobility of oxygen species for passive NOx adsorption

The development of passive NOxadsorbers with cost-benefit and high NOxstorage capacity remains an on-going challenge to after-treatment technologies at lower temperatures associated with cold-start ***,Cs1Mg3Al catalyst prepared by sol±gel method was cyclic tested in NOxstorage under 5 vol%*** 100°C,the NOxstorage capacity (1219μmol g-1) was much higher than that of Pt/Ba O/Al2O3(610μmol g-1).This provided new insights for non-noble metal catalysts in low-temperature passive *** addition of Cs improved the mobility of oxygen species and thus improved the NOxstorage *** XRD,XPS,IR spectra and in situ DRIFTs with NH3probe showed an interaction between CsOxand AlOxsites via oxygen species formed on Cs1Mg3Al *** improved mobility of oxygen species inferred from O2-TPD was consistent with high NOxstorage capacity related to enhanced formation of nitrate and additional nitrite species by ***,the addition of Mg might improve the stability of Cs1Mg3Al by stabilizing surface active oxygen species in cyclic experiments.

Formation Mechanism of the Paleocene Basal Conglomerate, Southwest Tarim Basin

Most knowledge about the Cretaceous–Paleogene strata in the Tarim Basin is mainly inferred from the outcrops at the basin's margin,but first time in the basin. The formation mechanism of the Paleocene basal conglomerate was determined using geochemical isotopes of the breccia from Well PBX1 in the southwestern Tarim Basin. The results showed that the global K/Pg(i.e., Cretaceous/Paleogene) clay layer boundary was located in the middle of the Paleocene basal conglomerate at the depth of 7 066.75 m in Well PBX1. In the Late Cretaceous, associated with volcanic activities and earthquakes, the caldera in the Well PBX1 Block formed an annular depression with large elevation differences in response to the Pamir Block collision. As a result, the collapsed breccia with storm tide genesis deposited at the periphery and inside of the depression, characterized by syn-sedimentary deformation. During the Paleocene, multiple sets of interbedded carbonate and collapsed breccia deposited in response to multi-phased transient transgression-regression cycles. The transportation of breccia exhibited near-source accumulation/extremely close or in-situ rapid accumulation. The studied region is located in the eastern end of the Tethys Sea, the Late Cretaceous–Early Paleocene breccia is of great significance for reconstructing the paleogeography of the Tarim basin in Tethys.

Tracing suspended and bed sediments during high and low water periods using geochemical characteristics-Case study:Vazrood watershed,northern Iran

Complete and comprehensive information about sediment dynamic and identification of hotspots of sediment production and transport are necessary for understanding the erosion processes and increasing the efficiency of soil and water conservation *** studies used the sediment fingerprint techniques to investigate the contribution of different sources in suspended and bed sediment yield of the ***,the contribution of various land use/land covers in suspended and bed sediment yield for the great Caspian Sea basin is in an aura of ambiguity and the present study was conducted to gather information about an important part of this area in northern Iran,where rangelands are located upstream of Hyrcanian forests and dense agricultural lands are located *** surface soil of different land use/land covers including forest,rangeland,agriculture and streambank lands were sampled in 30 *** and bed sediments were sampled in the watershed outlet in two high and low water *** characteristics of soil and sediment samples containing 59 elements were measured using ICP-OES GBC *** reliable and suitable tracers from 59 elements were then selected using Range test,Kruskal-Wallis and Discriminant Function Analysis,respectively,in FingerPro package of R *** results showed that for suspended sediment,streambank and rangeland had the highest contributions of 86.2%and 47.5%,respectively,in two high and low water *** bed sediment,in two high and low water periods,rangeland and streambank had the highest contributions of 73.8%and 84.4%,*** use change and especially human activities such as agriculture,road construction and development of residential areas along the main river riparian zone has led to a significant increase in suspended and bed sediments.

Monazite U-Th-Pb and sericite Rb-Sr dating of the Xiajiadian black shale-hosted gold deposit in the Qinling orogen,central China:Implications for regional gold metallogeny

The Qinling orogen in central China contains several black shale-hosted gold deposits,but the age of their formation and a possible relation between gold mineralization and regional tectonism remain *** we present results of in situ monazite U-Th-Pb dating and sericite Rb-Sr dating of the Xiajiadian black shale-hosted gold deposit to provide tight constraints on the time of gold deposition and information on the tectonic setting under which the deposit *** Xiajiadian gold deposit is mainly hosted in black shales of the Lower Cambrian Shuigoukou formation,with minor ores contained in sandy conglomerate of the Lower Devonian Xichahe *** ores in the black shales have been intensively oxidized and consist mainly of hematite,goethite,gypsum,quartz,calcite,native gold,and unrecognized iron ***,gold ores in the sandy conglomerate are free of oxidation and thus provide an opportunity to date the formation of the Xiajiadian gold *** ores consist of pyrite,marcasite,sericite,and quartz,which are associated with a variety of accessory minerals,including monazite,apatite,and *** is mainly present as structure-bound ions or nanoparticles in pyrite and marcasite,but minor native gold grains also occur as inclusions in *** is well developed in the ores,and has close textural association with Au-bearing pyrite and *** monazite grains have zoned textures consisting of a core area(Mnz1)and an overgrowth zone(Mnz2).Mnz1 contains 4.8–13 wt.%ThO_(2)and shows large variations in HREE and prominent negative Eu anomalies in the chondrite-normalized REE *** yields common lead-corrected^(208)Pb/^(232)Th dates ranging from 910±10 to416±4 Ma(2σ).These dates are interpreted in terms of a detrital origin for monazite in the core ***2 has much lower ThO_(2)contents of 0.8–1.7 wt.%and shows weak negative Eu anomalies in the chondrite-normalized REE *** yields common lead-corrected^(208)Pb/^(232

Insight of enriched basalts into the nature and evolution of mantle lithosphere beneath craton margins

Refractory lithospheric deep roots are the cornerstone for the prolonged stability of cratons and mantle xenoliths are normally the key targets for study on the evolution of such deep roots. In regions with few mantle xenoliths, the basalts enriched in radiogenic isotopic compositions due to marked lithospheric mantle contribution are crucial to unmask the lithospheric mantle evolution based on a comprehensive study involving petrology, geochemistry and thermodynamic modelling. Here, the Early Cretaceous basalts from the northwest North China Craton with few mantle xenoliths are taken as an example to show the significance of enriched basalts on the study of lithospheric mantle. These basalts are characterized by high silica and alkali contents(SiO_(2)=45.8–59.8 wt.%, K_(2)O+Na_(2)O=4.81–9.88 wt.%), arc-type trace-element patterns and enriched radiogenic isotope compositions(e.g., ε_(Nd)=-2.64–-12.88,^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr=0.7063–0.7093). The TiO_(2) and FeO(total) contents are higher than those of natural and experimental melts from refractory mantle peridotite but comparable to those of partial melts of fertile mantle *** high contents of fluid-loving elements(e.g., Rb and Ba) suggest source metasomatism by aqueous fluids. Combined with thermodynamic modelling and regional tectonic history, these enriched basalts likely record simultaneous decompression melting of asthenosphere and low-extent melting of thin and fertile lithospheric mantle fluxed by aqueous fluids from the subducted Paleo-Asian oceanic slab. The newly unmasked lithospheric mantle under the western NCC contrasts with the coeval thick and refractory one supporting the eastern NCC, and highlights that the craton destruction, especially the loss of its ancient refractory mantle root, should take place in a diachronous manner related to the craton-girded subduction episodes.
