The Qinling orogen in central china contains several black shale-hosted gold deposits,but the age of their formation and a possible relation between gold mineralization and regional tectonism remain *** we present results of in situ monazite U-Th-Pb dating and sericite Rb-Sr dating of the Xiajiadian black shale-hosted gold deposit to provide tight constraints on the time of gold deposition and information on the tectonic setting under which the deposit *** Xiajiadian gold deposit is mainly hosted in black shales of the Lower Cambrian Shuigoukou formation,with minor ores contained in sandy conglomerate of the Lower Devonian Xichahe *** ores in the black shales have been intensively oxidized and consist mainly of hematite,goethite,gypsum,quartz,calcite,native gold,and unrecognized iron ***,gold ores in the sandy conglomerate are free of oxidation and thus provide an opportunity to date the formation of the Xiajiadian gold *** ores consist of pyrite,marcasite,sericite,and quartz,which are associated with a variety of accessory minerals,including monazite,apatite,and *** is mainly present as structure-bound ions or nanoparticles in pyrite and marcasite,but minor native gold grains also occur as inclusions in *** is well developed in the ores,and has close textural association with Au-bearing pyrite and *** monazite grains have zoned textures consisting of a core area(Mnz1)and an overgrowth zone(Mnz2).Mnz1 contains 4.8–13 wt.%ThO_(2)and shows large variations in HREE and prominent negative Eu anomalies in the chondrite-normalized REE *** yields common lead-corrected^(208)Pb/^(232)Th dates ranging from 910±10 to416±4 Ma(2σ).These dates are interpreted in terms of a detrital origin for monazite in the core ***2 has much lower ThO_(2)contents of 0.8–1.7 wt.%and shows weak negative Eu anomalies in the chondrite-normalized REE *** yields common lead-corrected^(208)Pb/^(232

Insight of enriched basalts into the nature and evolution of mantle lithosphere beneath craton margins

Refractory lithospheric deep roots are the cornerstone for the prolonged stability of cratons and mantle xenoliths are normally the key targets for study on the evolution of such deep roots. In regions with few mantle xenoliths, the basalts enriched in radiogenic isotopic compositions due to marked lithospheric mantle contribution are crucial to unmask the lithospheric mantle evolution based on a comprehensive study involving petrology, geochemistry and thermodynamic modelling. Here, the Early Cretaceous basalts from the northwest North china Craton with few mantle xenoliths are taken as an example to show the significance of enriched basalts on the study of lithospheric mantle. These basalts are characterized by high silica and alkali contents(SiO_(2)=45.8–59.8 wt.%, K_(2)O+Na_(2)O=4.81–9.88 wt.%), arc-type trace-element patterns and enriched radiogenic isotope compositions(e.g., ε_(Nd)=-2.64–-12.88,^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr=0.7063–0.7093). The TiO_(2) and FeO(total) contents are higher than those of natural and experimental melts from refractory mantle peridotite but comparable to those of partial melts of fertile mantle *** high contents of fluid-loving elements(e.g., Rb and Ba) suggest source metasomatism by aqueous fluids. Combined with thermodynamic modelling and regional tectonic history, these enriched basalts likely record simultaneous decompression melting of asthenosphere and low-extent melting of thin and fertile lithospheric mantle fluxed by aqueous fluids from the subducted Paleo-Asian oceanic slab. The newly unmasked lithospheric mantle under the western NCC contrasts with the coeval thick and refractory one supporting the eastern NCC, and highlights that the craton destruction, especially the loss of its ancient refractory mantle root, should take place in a diachronous manner related to the craton-girded subduction episodes. The Changning-Menglian suture zone is a critical tectonic belt pivotal to the evolution of the *** Wenquan Formation,characterized as turbidite deposited on the western side of the Changning-Menglian suture zone as well as the eastern edge of the Baoshan *** of detrital zircons from the Wenquan Formation reveals two significant age peaks approximately at 440 and 980 Ma,with additional age populations around 600,780,and 2500 *** major age peak at about 440 Ma is come from the andesitic-dominant volcanic arc within the Lancang Block and the western Simao Block,corroborated by the presence of andesite fragments in thin section ***,the zircons that form the secondary age peak at~980 Ma and other older age groups probably originate from the Baoshan *** on the western side of the Paleo-Tethyan ophiolites,the Wenquan Formation received detrital materials from the continental margin on the opposite ***,the main Paleo-Tethyan Ocean basin was not sufficiently broad enough to cut off the transference of detrital *** was a relatively narrow basin in the Early Devonian.

Geology and genesis of the Aqishan Pb-Zn deposit,NW china:Insights from mineralogy,geochemistry,and in situ U-Pb geochronology

The unique ore-forming processes and the key factors responsible for formation of skarn deposits are still obscure,and challenges exist in the determination of timing of Pb-Zn skarns owing to lacking suitable mineral *** we present detailed paragenesis,bulk geochemistry,in situ U-Pb dating of zircon and garnet,and garnet oxygen isotopes together with in situ zircon Hf-O isotopes from the newly discovered Aqishan Pb-Zn deposit in the southern Central Asian Orogenic Belt(CAOB),northwest *** comprehensive data set revealed a Late Carboniferous subduction-related distal Pb-Zn skarn system associated with the granitic ***-ore stage garnets are generally subhedral to euhedral with oscillatory zoning and show slightly fractionated rare earth element patterns with positive Eu anomalies that point to an infiltration metasomatism origin under high water/rock *** syn-ore stage sphalerite is typically enriched in Mn and Cd and has moderate Zn/Cd ratios(337–482),with a formation temperature of 265℃to 383℃,which indicate magmatic-hydrothermal *** isocons defined by P_(2)O_(5)decipher that the principal factors for skarn formation were elevated activities of Fe,Ca,and Si species,where remobilization of Pb metals,meanwhile,contributed to ore-forming budgets to mineralizing *** U-Pb dating of zircons from granite porphyry that occurs distal to the skarns and Pb-Zn orebodies shows that these intrusions emplaced at ca.311.3–310.6 Ma,recording the subduction of the Paleo-Tianshan oceanic *** garnets in close textural association with Pb-Zn sulfides yield indistinguishable in situ LA-ICP-MS U-Pb ages of 310.5±4.1 ***-rock geochemistry and in situ zircon Hf-O isotopes(δ^(18)O=4.6‰–6.0‰)indicate that the granite porphyry was derived from partial melting of juvenile crust and influenced by subducted oceanic *** isotope compositions of garnets(δ^(18)O=8.0‰–9.0‰)demonstrate that the equilibrated ore fluids

Origin and tectonic setting of low-Si alkaline magma

Despite of the relatively rare occurrence of alkaline igneous rocks on earth, they are the most diverse group of igneous rocks due to variations in their mineral assemblages and geochemical compositions. Alkaline igneous rocks are generally characterized by Si undersaturation, and K-Na(and in some cases C) enrichment. Although there is no unified alkaline igneous rock classification scheme, diagrams such as total alkalis-SiO_(2) or K_(2)O-SiO_(2) can be used to classify alkaline igneous rocks. The origins of silica-saturated alkaline rocks(SiO_(2)>52 wt.%) are relatively complex because multiple episodes of magmatism are often involved, therefore most studies have focused on the origins of silica-undersaturated alkaline *** experimental petrological studies have been conducted in the past few decades. Initially, it was considered that enrichment of trace elements was only achieved by low-degree partial melting of mantle peridotite, but the experimental melts could not reproduce the geochemical composition of natural alkaline igneous rocks. Subsequent studies have focused on carbonate-bearing eclogites that represent the average component of subducted oceanic crust. Although experimental studies indicate that silica-undersaturated and alkali-oversaturated melts can be generated from eclogites, some studies have considered that natural silica-undersaturated alkaline igneous rocks are the result of multi-stage source enrichment by incompatible elements. Low-degree partial melts of the mantle can be emplaced in the lithospheric mantle, forming veins consisting of phlogopite, amphibole, and pyroxene. Melting experiments including these components show that the produced melts better reproduce the naturally occurring silica-undersaturated alkaline magmas. Silica-deficient alkaline igneous rocks occur in various tectonic settings. Voluminous Early Cretaceous granitoids and associated large-scale ore deposits are distributed within the southern Great Xing'an Range(SGXR),NE *** on previously published geochronology and zircon Hf-isotope data,Hf isotope mapping is undertaken to improve our understanding of crustal architecture and its controls on ore *** ore-related Early Cretaceous granitoids were sourced predominantly from juvenile crust,with the involvement of variable proportions of ancient crustal *** crustal architecture,as inferred from Hf isotopic contour maps,indicates two distinct Hf isotopic domains in SGXR,including(1)a higher-ε_(Hf)(+7 to+11)juvenile crust containing minor ancient crustal material,and(2)a lower-ε_(Hf)(+2 to+6)juvenile crust containing a greater proportion of ancient crustal *** Hf isotopic maps identify links between crustal architecture and regional *** deposits and other deposits with significant Cu production are restricted mainly to the higher-ε_(Hf)juvenile crustal regions in the northern and eastern *** dominated by other metals(e.g.,Mo,Sn,W,Pb,Zn,and Ag)occur mainly in the lower-ε_(Hf)juvenile crustal regions in the southern and western *** between juvenile crust-derived melts and ancient crustal components played an important role on the distribution of various ore metals.

The Wutonggou iron deposit is located in the well-known iron metallogenic belt in the eastern Tianshan,NW china,and has been regarded as a sedimentary iron *** hydrothermal overprinting could play indispensable roles in the formation of high-grade iron ores in sedimentary iron deposits,previous studies mainly focused on sedimentary-related iron mineralization,while the nature and contribution of hydrothermal fluids are poorly ***,an integrated study of ore geology,H-O-C isotopes and^(40)Ar-^(39)Ar dating,is conducted on the Wutonggou deposit,in order to reveal the features,source,and timing of hydrothermal *** studied deposit includes two mining sections namely the Jianshan and ***δ^(18)O values of early magnetite from the Jianshan section range from+3.0‰to+5.8‰that nearly consistent with classic magmatic magnetite,while increase to 6.3‰-8.0‰in the late *** from the two sections shows comparable H-O isotopic compositions and identical fractionation trends,and is plotted in or periphery to the primary magmatic water *** from the two sections are broadly similar in carbon and oxygen isotopic compositions,and siderite from the Wutonggou section is plotted in the same ***,comparable stable isotopic compositions and evolution trends indicate similar magmatic fluids contributed hydrothermal iron mineralization in the two mining ***,water-rock interactions of varying degrees generated distinct mineralization styles in the Jianshan and Wutonggou sections,and caused the isotopic fractionation in late *** extracted from a hydrothermal siderite ore yielded a^(40)Ar-^(39)Ar plateau age of 299.5±2.0 Ma,indicates the timing of hydrothermal iron mineralization is corresponding to the emplacement of vicinity *** together,the hydrothermal mineralization in the Wutonggou iron deposit was the product of remobilization and upgrading of early sedimentary iron ores,a

The topography of the Harlik Mountain has a strong impact on the formation of current arid climate in the Turpan-Hami ***,it is still controversial if Harlik Mountain experienced significant exhumation during the Middle to Late Cenozoic according to the previous thermochronology *** features of the Oligocene to Miocene sediments in the foreland basin could provide productive information for resolving the *** peak ages of detrital apatite fission track analysis of the Oligocene–Miocene sandstone in the Turpan-Hami Basin are well comparable with the cooling age records of the Harlik Mountain rocks,indicating that the Oligocene–Miocene Taoshuyuanzi Formation in the basin was mostly derived from the Harlik *** stratigraphic sequence exhibits coarsening upward,reflecting that the source area was in a tectonically active period during the deposition *** mineral assemblages also suggest that the unstable minerals in the sediment increased significantly at the end of the ***,the proportion of apatite increased up-section,while the garnet content decreased significantly,indicating that the Carboniferous metamorphic rocks have been gradually eroded out and more intrusive rocks have been exposed to the *** observations suggest that the Harlik Mountain experienced exhumation during the Oligocene to Miocene,and the denudation depth afterward was probably less than 2.5 km according to the previously apatite(U-Th)/He *** Oligocene–Miocene exhumation probably acted as one of the triggers for the heavy drought of the Turpan-Hami Basin during the Middle–Late Neogene.

Structural Stability of Natural Magnesiochromite at High-Temperature-Pressure Conditions

The podiform chromitites in the Luobusha ophiolite have been thought to experience a very deep formation,but the maximum depth is still an open ***,we have investigated the structural stability of natural magnesiochromite using the synchrotron-based powder X-ray diffraction and diamond anvil cells up to 48.6 GPa and 2450 *** results have shown that spinel-type magnesiochromite first decomposes into corundum-type‘Cr_(2)O_(3)’+B1-type‘MgO’at 11–14 GPa and 1250–1450 K,then modified ludwigite(mLd)-type‘Mg_(2)Cr_(2)O_(5)’+corundum-type‘Cr_(2)O_(3)’at 14.3–20.5 GPa and 1300–2000 K,and finally CaTi_(2)O_(4)-type phase at 24.5 *** the quenching procession from high-temperature-pressure conditions,the mLd-type phase appeared again and was kept at ambient *** also obtained the isothermal equation states of spinel-type and CaTi_(2)O_(4)-type phases,revealing the composition effect on their *** on the updated results,we propose chromitites could not experience pressure exceeding∼14.3 GPa(approximate maximum depth∼400 km)in the subduction-recycling genesis model.
