Experimental study of the effects of a multistage pore-throat structure on the seepage characteristics of sandstones in the Beibuwan Basin:Insights into the flooding mode

To investigate the relationship between grain sizes, seepage capacity, and oil-displacement efficiency in the Liushagang Formation of the Beibuwan Basin, this study identifies the multistage pore-throat structure as a crucial factor through a comparison of oil displacement in microscopic pore-throat experiments. The two-phase flow evaluation method based on the Li-Horne model is utilized to effectively characterize and quantify the seepage characteristics of different reservoirs, closely relating them to the distribution of microscopic pores and throats. It is observed that conglomerate sandstones at different stages exhibit significant heterogeneity and noticeable differences in seepage capacity, highlighting the crucial role played by certain large pore throats in determining seepage capacity and oil displacement efficiency. Furthermore, it was found that the displacement effects of conglomeratic sandstones with strong heterogeneity were inferior to those of conventional homogeneous sandstone, as evidenced by multiple displacement experiments conducted on core samples with varying granularities and flooding systems. Subsequently, core-based experiments on associated gas flooding after water flooding were conducted to address the challenge of achieving satisfactory results in a single displacement mode for reservoirs with significant heterogeneity. The results indicate that the oil recovery rates for associated gas flooding after water flooding increased by 7.3%-16.4% compared with water flooding alone at a gas-oil ratio of approximately 7000 m^(3)/m^(3). Therefore, considering the advantages of gas flooding in terms of seepage capacity, oil exchange ratio, and the potential for two-phase production, gas flooding is recommended as an energy supplement mode for homogeneous reservoirs in the presence of sufficient gas source and appropriate tectonic angle. Impact of atmospheric circulations on droughts and drought propagation over China

The GRACE satellite mission provides a new approach for monitoring,tracking,and assessing drought conditions by detecting changes in earth's gravitational fields and inversing signals of terrestrial water storage *** studies of terrestrial water storage anomalies related droughts paid rare attention to the behind atmospheric physical mechanisms,nor quantified the risk propagation patterns between terrestrial water storage deficits and hydrological or agricultural *** this study,we first extract terrestrial water storage(TWS) droughts,hydrological droughts,and agricultural droughts by using multiple variables including TWS from the GRACE/GRACE-FO satellites,runoff and soil moisture from the ERA5-Land reanalysis *** then identify key atmospheric and oceanic oscillation indices affecting water deficits by employing machine learning *** characterize the joint distributions between drought duration and severity by using the Copula function and quantify the risk propagation of hydrological and agricultural droughts to TWS *** results show that:(1) From 2002 to 2021,there is a significant decrasing trend of TWS in China;the WPIO group atmospheric circulation indices(sea surface temperature index within the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean) contributes the most to ***,the sea surface temperature anomalies within the NINO 3.4 region as well as the Western Pacific Warm Pool area index show significantly positive correlation relationships with TWS in southern China;(2) The northwestern China,the Yangtze River basin,and the downstream of the Pearl River basin are the hotspots of TWS ***,the hotspots of hydrological droughts locate in northwestern China and the hotspots of agricultural droughts locate in South China and eastern Tibetan Plateau;(3) The elastic coefficients of hydrological droughts propagating to TWS droughts are higher than those of agricultural droughts,indicating that the TWS droughts

Brachiopods from the Silurian “Lower Red Beds” of Wuhan（E. Hubei， South China）: paleoecological and paleogeographical implications

The age and sedimentary environment of the Silurian “Lower Red Beds” (LRBs)， which occur widely in South China， have long been controversial because of the scarcity of index fossils. Recently， these beds have been dated by trilobites as middle-late Aeronian to early Telychian in age. Here， we report abundant brachiopods from the LRBs in Wuhan， Middle Yangtze Region， including atrypides (Meifodia hunanensis， Zygospiraella sp. 1， Zygospiraella sp. 2 and Nalivkinia? sp.)， spiriferides (Striispirifer acuminiplicatus， Striispirifer? sp.)， strophomenides (Eostropheodonta? sp. and Katastrophomena modesta)， and linguliformeans (Anomaloglossa? sp. and Orbiculoidea? sp.). Most of these are common in the Leijiatun， Xiangshuyuan， Shihniulan， Niuchang， Lojoping， and Shamao formations in the Upper Yangtze Region. The discovery of brachiopods from the LRBs in Wuhan not only enrich the biodiversity of the LRBs in the Yangtze Region， where Meifodia， Zygospiraella， Katastrophomena and Eostropheodonta are first found in the LRBs， but also expand the paleogeographical distribution of brachiopods to Middle-Lower Yangtze Region that first radiated after the end-Ordovician extinction. In addition， this brachiopod fauna also provides important implications for the sedimentary environment of LRBs during the Llandovery， which is usually developed in the nearshore shallow-water (BA1-2)， althought this paper extends to the deeper parts of the shallow-marine (BA3-4).

Phenol-containing wastewater is typical organic wastewater,and its treatment is *** advanced method to treat this type of wastewater is persulfate *** friendly ceriummanganese composite oxide materials were synthesized by hydrothermal method and applied to the phenol degradation *** ratios of cerium and manganese,as well as the amount of sodium hydroxide,were *** solid solutions of cerium and manganese were formed and confirmed by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).H_(2)-temperature programmed reduction(H_(2)-TPR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) were utilized to analyze the synergistic effect of cerium and *** is found that there is a transformation between Ce^(4+)/Ce^(3+) and Mn^(2+)/Mn^(3+),which makes the material more trivalent manganese and thereby increases the catalytic *** effect of materials in catalyzing phenol degradation by peroxodisulfate(PDS) under various preparation conditions is discussed and high-effciency removal of phenol can be achieved and the removal rate at 180 min is close to 100%.The kinetic of this process was investigated and activation energy of phenol degradation is 62,35 kJ/*** degradation pathway of phenol was studied and it is found that PDS can be activated by low metal ions and the OH and SO_(4·)^(-)radicals play crucial roles according to the quenching experiments.

In the context of global mean square error concerning the number of random variables in the representation,the Karhunen–Loève(KL)expansion is the optimal series expansion method for random field *** computational efficiency and accuracy of the KL expansion are contingent upon the accurate resolution of the Fredholm integral eigenvalue problem(IEVP).The paper proposes an interpolation method based on different interpolation basis functions such as moving least squares(MLS),least squares(LS),and finite element method(FEM)to solve the *** with the Galerkin method based on finite element or Legendre polynomials,the main advantage of the interpolation method is that,in the calculation of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions in one-dimensional random fields,the integral matrix containing covariance function only requires a single integral,which is less than a two-folded integral by the Galerkin *** effectiveness and computational efficiency of the proposed interpolation method are verified through various one-dimensional ***,based on theKL expansion and polynomial chaos expansion,the stochastic analysis of two-dimensional regular and irregular domains is conducted,and the basis function of the extended finite element method(XFEM)is introduced as the interpolation basis function in two-dimensional irregular domains to solve the IEVP.

The important role of Turbidity Maximum Zone in sedimentary dynamic of estuarine mangrove swamp

Sedimentation is a key process affecting wetland sustainability and carbon burial *** context of sea level rise,climate change and human activities,further understanding about the sedimentary dynamic in wetland is critical in predicting the landscape evolution or the change in carbon burial *** this study,based on the field hydrological observation in a mangrove system in the Nanliu River estuary,we found the net flux of suspended sediment to mangrove is 39−72 kg/m in tidal cycles with Turbidity Maximum Zone(TMZ)forming in surface layer and only is 9−18 kg/m in tidal cycles without *** higher net flux of suspended sediment to mangrove in tidal cycles with TMZ forming in surface layer is attributed to high SSC in rising tide and intense flocculation in *** significant discrepancy in sedimentation rate in the mangrove patches also can be explained by the probability of TMZ forming in the surface layer of *** future,rapid sea level rising may lead to the change of TMZ pattern in estuary,which will result in non-negligible variation in sedimentation rate in *** to the present data of sedimentation rate in wetlands,the fragility of wetlands in river estuary may be miscalculated.

A stable one-point quadrature rule for three-dimensional numerical manifold method

We present a numerically stable one-point quadrature rule for the stiffness matrix and mass matrix of the three-dimensional numerical manifold method(3D NMM).The rule simplifies the integration over irregularly shaped manifold elements and overcomes locking issues,and it does not cause spurious modes in modal *** essential idea is to transfer the integral over a manifold element to a few moments to the element center,thereby deriving a one-point integration rule by the moments and making modifications to avoid locking *** the stiffness matrix,after the virtual work is decomposed into moments,higher-order moments are modified to overcome locking issues in nearly incompressible and bending-dominated *** the mass matrix,the consistent and lumped types are derived by *** particular,the lumped type has the clear advantage of *** proposed method is naturally suitable for 3D NMM meshes automatically generated from a regular *** tests justify the accuracy improvements and the stability of the proposed procedure.

Fractal theory offers a powerful tool for the precise description and quantification of the complex pore structures in reservoir rocks,crucial for understanding the storage and migration characteristics of media within these *** with the challenge of calculating the three-dimensional fractal dimensions of rock porosity,this study proposes an innovative computational process that directly calculates the three-dimensional fractal dimensions from a geometric *** employing a composite denoising approach that integrates Fourier transform(FT)and wavelet transform(WT),coupled with multimodal pore extraction techniques such as threshold segmentation,top-hat transformation,and membrane enhancement,we successfully crafted accurate digital rock *** improved box-counting method was then applied to analyze the voxel data of these digital rocks,accurately calculating the fractal dimensions of the rock pore *** numerical simulations of permeability experiments were conducted to explore the physical correlations between the rock pore fractal dimensions,porosity,and absolute *** results reveal that rocks with higher fractal dimensions exhibit more complex pore connectivity pathways and a wider,more uneven pore distribution,suggesting that the ideal rock samples should possess lower fractal dimensions and higher effective porosity rates to achieve optimal fluid transmission *** methodology and conclusions of this study provide new tools and insights for the quantitative analysis of complex pores in rocks and contribute to the exploration of the fractal transport properties of media within rocks.
