Synergistic effect of adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of oilfield-produced water by electrospun photocatalytic fibers of Polystyrene/Nanorod-Graphitic carbon nitride

Graphitic carbon nitride with nanorod structure(Nr-GCN)was synthesized using melamine as a precursor without any other reagents by hydrothermal pretreatment method.XRD,FTIR,SEM,N_(2)adsorption-desorption from BET,UV-Vis DRS spectroscopy,and photoluminescence were used to characterize the prepared samples.Also,the photoelectrochemical behavior of nanoparticles was studied by photocurrent transient response and cyclic voltammetry analysis.Polystyrene(PS)fibrous mat was fabricated by electrospinning technique and used as a support for the stabilization of the nanoparticles.The performance of the synthesized nanoparticles and photocatalytic fibers(PS/Nr-GCN)was evaluated in oilfield-produced water treatment under visible light irradiation.During this process,oil contaminants were adsorbed by hydrophobic polystyrene fibers and simultaneously degraded by Nr-GCN.The removal efficiency of chemical oxygen demand(COD)has been obtained 96.6%and 98.4%by Nr-GCN and PS/Nr-GCN,respectively,at the optimum conditions of pH4,photocatalyst dosage 0.5 g/L,COD initial concentration 550 mg/L,and illumination time 150 min.The gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy analysis results showed 99.3%removal of total petroleum hydrocarbons using photocatalytic fibers of PS/Nr-GCN.The results demonstrated that the GCN has outstanding features like controllable morphology,visible-light-driven,and showing high potential in oily wastewater remediation.Moreover,the synergistic effect of adsorption and photocatalytic degradation is an effective technique in oilfield-produced water treatment.

The aim of this work is to boost the combined hydrogen and added-values compounds generation(acetaldehyde, acetic acid and ethyl acetate) through ethanol electrochemical reforming using bimetallic anodes. In particular, the influence of the secondary metal on the electrochemical performance as well as on the product distribution was studied. For that purpose, Pt X/C electrocatalysts(where X corresponds to Cu, Co, Ni and Ru) were synthesized by the modified polyol method and tested in both half-cell and proton exchange membrane(PEM) cell configurations. Characterization results showed that incorporation of Ni and Co into the Pt matrix enhances the morphological properties of the material, providing smaller crystallite sizes, higher active surface areas and hence, better dispersion when comparing to Ru and Cu-based electrocatalysts. Ethanol oxidation reaction(EOR) was evaluated by cyclic, linear voltammetry and chronopotentiometry assays. Pt Co/C and Pt Ni/C exhibited the highest electrocatalytic activity at high polarization levels, which translate into an improvement of more than 30%(up to 1050 m A cm^(-2)) in the hydrogen production and chemical yields. On the other hand, Pt Ru/C results more advantageous for a lower potential interval(chemical performance and product distribution. Such differences in the electrochemical performance can be rationalized in terms of the synergistic effect between both metals(particle size distribution, grade of dispersion and hydrophilic behavior), which demonstrate that the incorporation of a different secondary metal plays an essential role in the EOR development.

Effect of NiO-NiCr2O4 nano-oxides on the microstructural,mechanical and corrosion properties of Ni-coated carbon steel

Pure Ni and its composites with different percentages of Ni-Cr nano-oxides were coated over carbon steel to assess the coating features and mechanical and corrosion behavior.A nano-oxide composite of Ni-Cr was first synthesized through chemical coprecipitation with uniform distribution constituents.Electrodeposition was employed to coat pure Ni and Ni-(Ni-Cr)oxides(10,20,30,40,and 50 g/L)on the steel sheets.Transmission electron microscope and field emission scanning electron microscope were adopted to examine the microstructure of powders and coatings,and X-ray diffraction analysis was employed to study the chemical composition.The microhardness,thickness,and wear resistance of the coatings were assessed,polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)tests were conducted to analyze the corrosion behavior,and the corresponding equivalent circuit was developed.Results showed flawless and crack-free coatings for all samples and uniform distribution of nano-oxides in the Ni matrix for the samples of 10-30 g/L.Agglomerated oxides were detected at high concentrations.Maximum microhardness(HV 661),thickness(116μm),and wear resistance of coatings were found at 30 g/L.A three-loop equivalent circuit corresponded satisfactorily to all EIS data.The corrosion resistance increased with the nano-oxide concentration of up to 30 g/L but decreased at 40 g/L.The sample of 50 g/L showed the best corrosion resistance.

SAPO-34 nanocrystals(inorganic filler) were incorporated in polyurethane membranes and the permeation properties of CO_2, CH_4,and N_2 gases were explored. In this regard, the synthesized PU-SAPO-34 mixed matrix membranes(MMMs) were characterized via SEM, AFM, TGA, XRD and FTIR analyses. Gas permeation properties of PU-SAPO-34 MMMs with SAPO-34 contents of 5 wt%, 10 wt% and 20 wt% were investigated. The permeation results revealed that the presence of 20 wt% SAPO-34 resulted in 4.45%, 18.24% and 40.2% reductions in permeability of CO_2,CH_4,and N_2, respectively, as compared to the permeability of neat polyurethane membrane. Also,the findings showed that at the pressure of 1.2 MPa, the incorporation of 20 wt% SAPO-34 into the polyurethane membranes enhanced the selectivity of CO_2/CH_4 and CO_2/N_2, 14.43 and 37.46%, respectively. In this research, PU containing 20 wt% SAPO-34 showed the best separation performance. For the first time, polynomial regression(PR) as a simple yet accurate tool yielded a mathematical equation for the prediction of permeabilities with high accuracy(R^2>99%).

A novel alpha function for Peng-Robinson equation of state was proposed and generalized with acentric factor and dipole moment for predicting thermodynamic properties of non-polar,weakly polar,and polar compounds.The parameters of new alpha function were fitted with vapor pressures of 70 compounds.Six different methods were investigated for the correlation of parameters of new alpha function and Heyen alpha function.The generalized new alpha function passed the consistency test.The results indicated that the predictive accuracy of generalized new alpha function and generalized Heyen alpha function was improved for the estimation of vapor pressure of 11 kinds of compounds,with the average relative deviations(ARDs)being 2.60%and 2.76%.The ARDs of the two generalized alpha functions were 2.04%and 2.09%for the enthalpy of vaporization.However,the generalized new alpha function and the other alpha functions had great deviations for the prediction of liquid volumes and isobaric heat capacities.The alpha function that was generalized with acentric factor and reduced dipole moment was more accurate than that was generalized with acentric factor,especially for the prediction of vapor pressure and enthalpy of vaporization of polar compounds.

Colloidal gas aphron(CGA)based fluid has become very popular in drilling in the last two decades,as it reduces formation damages significantly.In this study,sugarcane molasses(Mls)was used for the first time as a polymer in CGA-based to investigate its ability to improve the role of aphronized fluid as a drilling fluid.The results showed that increasing the concentration of Mls to 12%(v/v)in CGA-based fluid reduces the drainage rate and increases half-life to 10.6 min,resulting in enhanced stability of the aphronized fluid.Also,because of increasing Mls concentration from 1%to 12%(v/v),the yield and the initial gas hold-up decrease to 74%and 299.4 mL,respectively,indicating that the presence of Mls allows less air into the aphron system.Although the rheological properties were improved in this study,the gel strength did not change considerably.Furthermore,the results showed that by increasing the concentration of Mls,the average size of the bubbles decreases,and the particle-size distribution becomes more uniform.Finally,the API filtration test revealed that the higher the Mls concentration in the aphronized fluid,the lower the fluid loss,and at the Mls concentration of 12%(v/v),the fluid loss was estimated at 19.54 mL.A natural polysaccharide with high molecular weight,Mls can be used as a polymer in CGAbased fluid and,thus,improve its performance.

Evolution of copper nanowires through coalescing of copper nanoparticles induced by aliphatic amines and their electrical conductivities in polyester films

Copper nanowires were synthesized by the wet chemical reduction method using copper sulfate as the copper precursor,aliphatic amines(methylamine,ethanediamine,1,2-propanediamine)as the inducing reagents,and hydrazine hydrate as the reductant through the aging and reduction processes.The high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM)images reveal that the copper nanowires were synthesized by coalescing extremely small-sized copper nanoparticles with the particle sizes of1–6 nm in copper complex micelles.A longer aging time period favored the coalescing of the copper nanoparticles to form thinner copper nanowires in the following reduction process.The coalescing extent of copper nanoparticles in copper nanowires was highly enhanced by ethanediamine and 1,2-propanediamine as compared with that by methylamine.The copper nanowire-filled polyester films had higher electrical conductivity than the copper nanoparticle-filled ones.

A new approach for correlating of H_(2)S solubility in[emim][Lac],[bmim][ac]and[emim][pro]ionic liquids using two-parts combined models

Two bi-part combined models containing reaction equilibrium thermodynamic model and an equation of state(EoS)including cubic plus association(CPA)or modified Soave-Redlich-Kwong(SRK),were employed to correlate H_(2)S solubility in ionic liquids[emim][Lac],[bmim][Ac]and[emim][Pro].RETM and CPA/mSRK are responsible for chemical and phase equilibria calculations,respectively.The RETM defines a complex formation reaction between an H_(2)S and two IL molecules into the liquid phase so that a complex in the form of H_(2)S(IL)_(2)is probable to produce.On the other side,CPA/mSRK EoSs perform phase equilibria computations to find pressure and vapor phase concentrations.In the case of CPA,both of H_(2)S and the ionic liquids were considered as self-associating components which pursue 4 C and 2 B schemes,respectively.This model computes the pure IL parameters using experimental density data.In this work,critical properties were estimated through the modified Lydersen-Joback-Reid method,Eotvos and Guggenheim relations.Afterward,the binary systems were investigated by applying RETM.CPA presents average absolute deviations(AADs)equal to 2.41%,13.42%and 3.52%for[emim][Lac],[bmim][Ac],and[emim][Pro],respectively.Moreover,the AADs obtained by mSRK are 3.75%,5.07%,and 6.06%,respectively.As it is evident from the results,the combination of RETM with both CPA and m SRK EoSs will result in good correlation accuracy.
