Telemarketing is a well-established marketing approach to offering products and services to prospective *** effectiveness of such an approach,however,is highly dependent on the selection of the appropriate consumer base,as reaching uninterested customers will induce annoyance and consume costly enterprise resources in vain while missing interested *** introduction of business intelligence and machine learning models can positively influence the decision-making process by predicting the potential customer base,and the existing literature in this direction shows promising ***,the selection of influential features and the construction of effective learning models for improved performance remain a ***,from the modelling perspective,the class imbalance nature of the training data,where samples with unsuccessful outcomes highly outnumber successful ones,further compounds the problem by creating biased and inaccurate ***,customer preferences are likely to change over time due to various reasons,and/or a fresh group of customers may be targeted for a new product or service,necessitating model retraining which is not addressed at all in existing works.A major challenge in model retraining is maintaining a balance between stability(retaining older knowledge)and plasticity(being receptive to new information).To address the above issues,this paper proposes an ensemble machine learning model with feature selection and oversampling techniques to identify potential customers more accurately.A novel online learning method is proposed for model retraining when new samples are available over *** newly introduced method equips the proposed approach to deal with dynamic data,leading to improved readiness of the proposed model for practical adoption,and is a highly useful addition to the *** experiments with real-world data show that the proposed approach achieves excellent results in all cases(e.g.,98.6

Brain Research on Mental Disorders: A Criticism

Objective: To expose the problems and inherent limitations of neuroscience-based brain research on mental disorders. Method: Discussion of the theory underlying brain research on mental disorders, followed by a systematic evaluation of typical studies. Results: The fundamental problem is that brain researchers fail to differentiate between biological mental disorders in which brain processes cause the disorder (notably schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and melancholic depression) and learned mental disorders in which brain processes mediate but do not cause the disorder (which is the case with reactive depression, reactive anxiety, OCD, and PTSD). Researchers have been unsuccessful in identifying mechanisms in the brain that cause biological mental disorders, and will never be able to locate the innumerable specific neural connections that mediate learned mental disorders. Moreover, the author’s review of typical studies in this field shows that they have serious problems with theory, measurement, and data analysis, and that their findings cannot be trusted. Conclusions: Neuroscience-based brain research on mental disorders, unlike other neurological research, has been an expensive failure and it is not worth continuing.

Do smart city policies improve energy efficiency?Evidence from China

To address air pollution and offer a convenient and comfortable living environment,the Chinese government launched a smart city pilot(SCP)project in 2012,accompanied by a comprehensive set of environmental and energy-related laws and *** academic interest in smart cities has surged,there remains a notable gap in empirical research exploring the economic,environmental,and energy effects of such *** 232 prefecture-level cities from 2003 to 2017 as research subjects,this study measures energy effi‐ciency by using energy consumption per unit of GDP and adopts a difference-in-differences(DID)analysis to investigate the impact of SCPs on energy *** empirical results indicate that SCPs improved energy efficiency by promoting urban technological innovation capabilities and green total factor productivity,and this effect was more pronounced in cities that were more dependent on traditional fossil fuel energy sources and had more developed fiscal and financial *** the impact of smart city construction on energy utilization efficiency in developing countries,such as China,is not only significantly enlightening for China’s green and low-carbon transition but also provides reference opinions for constructing smart cities and the path to enhancing energy efficiency in other developing *** findings provide valuable insights into the global development of smart cities,urban sustainability,and high-quality economic growth.

The confluence of several factors including government fiscal pressures and growing opportunities for tax minimization in a digital economy prompted the OECD to embark on a program to reduce base erosion and profit shifting(BEPS).At the same time,countries became increasingly unhappy about international tax rules that left them unable to impose income taxes on companies earning profits by selling to customers inside their country without establishing a taxable presence *** frustration led to unilateral responses that prompted the OECD to develop proposals to address this problem as *** OECD’s proposals to reduce profit shifting and enhance taxing rights of sales destination countries evolved into what are now known as Pillar One and Pillar Two international tax *** paper provides an overview of the operation of each of the Pillars and notes the limitations that prevent them from addressing the underlying causes of profit shifting and providing full taxing rights to sales destination jurisdictions.

Mining Semantic Trajectory Patterns from Geo-Tagged Data

User-generated social media data tagged with geographic information present messages of dynamic spatiotemporal trajectories. These increasing mobility data provide potential opportunities to enhance the understanding of human mobility behaviors. Several trajectory data mining approaches have been proposed to benefit from these rich datasets, but fail to incorporate aspatial semantics in mining. This study investigates mining frequent moving sequences of geographic entities with transit time from geo-tagged data. Different from previous analysis of geographic feature only trajectories, this work focuses on extracting patterns with rich context semantics. We extend raw geographic trajectories generated from geo-tagged data with rich context semantic annotations, use regions-of-interest as stops to represent interesting places, enrich them with multiple aspatial semantic annotations, and propose a semantic trajectory pattern mining algorithm that returns basic and multidimensional semantic trajectory patterns. Experimental results demonstrate that semantic trajectory patterns from our method present semantically meaningful patterns and display richer semantic knowledge.

The slippery slope framework:A comprehensive evaluation of factors affecting trust and power

Many empirical studies have been conducted to test the assumptions of the slippery slope framework(SSF).However,although the SSF theory has introduced several tax compliance factors that are believed to have associations with trust in tax authorities and power of tax authorities,most studies tend to include only the two main domains of trust and power in the *** of these studies comprehensively investigates the ***,this study is dedicated to fully elaborating on these factors and their correlations with the two main domains of trust and power separately and *** results show that most factors are proven to significantly influence trust and *** penalties,norms,distributive fairness and retributive fairness significantly and positively influence trust,while audit probabilities,tax penalties,attitudes,norms and retributive fairness have significant and positive correlations with *** results also confirm the main SSF assumptions that trust leads to voluntary compliance,while voluntary compliance positively affects overall tax ***,this study fails to demonstrate the relationship of power with enforced compliance,while enforced compliance is found to negatively affect overall tax compliance.

Sustainability of Transhumance Grazing Systems under Socio-economic Threats in Langtang,Nepal

The decline or loss of traditional socialecological systems may induce adverse effects to the societies and ecosystems. Transhumance, the recurring and seasonal movement of grazing livestock, is increasingly constrained by a numbers of factors including policy, land use and socio-economic changes in Nepal. To explore how these changes have affected the transhumance, this study investigated transhumance at the Langtang valley in central Nepal. The specific objectives of this study were to determine the herd size and composition, spatial-temporal patterns and to identify the major drivers of the system and the system changes. Data were collected from field study comprising semi-structured interviews with the herders, focus group discussions, key informants survey, and observations of rangeland and livestock management systems. The study revealed that the transhumance system in the Langtang is influenced by two types of drivers. In one hand, traditional practices are contributing to the sustainability of the system. On the other hand, the grazing patterns and adaptive responses are strongly influenced by changes in government policies, socioeconomic and cultural transformation, livestock productivity, markets, rangeland conditions and climate change. The findings of this study help with the development and implementation of transhumance management policy for the sustainability.

Time Series Forecasting Fusion Network Model Based on Prophet and Improved LSTM

Time series forecasting and analysis are widely used in many fields and application *** series historical data reflects the change pattern and trend,which can serve the application and decision in each application scenario to a certain *** this paper,we select the time series prediction problem in the atmospheric environment scenario to start the application *** terms of data support,we obtain the data of nearly 3500 vehicles in some cities in China fromRunwoda Research Institute,focusing on the major pollutant emission data of non-road mobile machinery and high emission vehicles in Beijing and Bozhou,Anhui Province to build the dataset and conduct the time series prediction analysis experiments on *** paper proposes a P-gLSTNet model,and uses Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average model(ARIMA),long and short-term memory(LSTM),and Prophet to predict and compare the emissions in the future *** experiments are validated on four public data sets and one self-collected data set,and the mean absolute error(MAE),root mean square error(RMSE),and mean absolute percentage error(MAPE)are selected as the *** experimental results show that the proposed P-gLSTNet fusion model predicts less error,outperforms the backbone method,and is more suitable for the prediction of time-series data in this scenario.

The alterations in feed ingredients and the nutrient matrix to produce reduced-protein diets may affect bone morphology and mineralization in laying *** study was implemented to determine the effects of L-arginine(Arg),guanidinoacetic acid(GAA),and L-citrulline(Cit)supplementation to Argdeficient reduced-protein diets on bone morphology,strength,and mineralization status of laying *** housed Hy-Line Brown laying hens were evenly distributed to five dietary treatments with 25 replicates per treatment from 20 to 40 wk of *** consisted of a standard protein diet(17%crude protein,SP),a reduced-protein diet deficient in Arg(13%crude protein,RP),and RP supplemented with Arg(0.35%Arg,RP-Arg),GAA(0.46%GAA equivalent to 0.35%Arg,RP-GAA),or Cit(0.35%Cit equivalent to 0.35%Arg,RP-Cit)to reach the Arg level of SP *** fed the SP diet had similar bone weight,ash,length,width,Seedor index,breaking strength,and serum mineral concentration,but higher toe B level(P<0.001)compared to those fed the RP diet at wk *** fed the SP diet consumed more but also excreted more K and B compared to those fed the RP diet(P<0.01).Birds fed the SP diet had lower Cu digestibility(P=0.01)and higher B retention(P<0.01)compared to those offered the RP *** of Arg,GAA,and Cit to the RP diet increased relative femur weight and length(P<0.001).Citrulline supplementation also increased relative tibia and femur ash,and Zn digestibility(P<0.05).Supplementation of GAA to the RP diet decreased serum Ca,P,and Mg levels,decreased tibia Fe and Mg levels and toe Mg level,but increased Al,Fe,Zn,and Mn digestibility(P<0.05).The current findings demonstrated the capacity of laying hens to adapt to low mineral intake by increasing mineral ***,bone morphology and breaking strength,and serum mineral level in laying hens were not influenced by dietary CP *** Arg,GAA,or Cit supplementation were effective in improving bone morphology and
