Breeding for Heat Tolerant Aromatic Rice Varieties and Identification of Novel QTL Regions Associated with Heat Tolerance During Reproductive Phase by QTL-Seq

Extremely high temperatures resulting from climate change have become a major challenge for increasing rice ***,our objective was to develop heat-tolerant aromatic rice varieties using the pedigree method,focusing on selecting for seed-setting ability under extremely high temperatures along with the use of single nucleotide polymorphism/insertion and deletion(SNP/InDel)markers to improve aromatic properties and grain ***,the QTL-seq approach was utilized to identify QTLs for seed-setting rate in an F2 population subjected to heat *** candidate QTL regions were then aligned to confirm SNPs/InDels in synonymous F7 candidate heat-tolerant *** results revealed that four promising lines,namely 84-7-1-9,84-7-1-10,159-3-3-1,and 159-3-3-10,were classified as heat-tolerant with low amylose *** addition,lines 84-7-1-9 and 84-7-1-10 were identified as aromatic rice encompassing the aroma gene(badh2).Regarding the QTL-seq results,the qSF2.1 region ranged from 311051 to 3929422 bp on chromosome 2,was identified based on the highest contrasting SNP index between the heat-susceptible and tolerant *** candidate genes within this region include two genes related to heat shock proteins,three genes associated with pollen fertility,and four genes involved in heat stress and other abiotic stress *** genes are proposed as potential candidates for heat tolerance and could serve as targets in rice breeding programs aimed at enhancing heat tolerance.

An efficient conversion model between acceleration and pseudo-acceleration response spectra considering effects of magnitude,distance,and site class

Both acceleration and pseudo-acceleration response spectra play important roles in structural seismic ***,only one of them is generally provided in most seismic ***,many studies have attempted to develop conversion models between the acceleration response spectrum(SA)and the pseudo-acceleration response spectrum(PSA).Our previous studies found that the relationship between SA and PSA is affected by magnitude,distance,and site ***,we developed an SA/PSA model incorporating these ***,this model is suitable for cases with small and moderate magnitudes and its accuracy is not good enough for cases with large *** paper aims to develop an efficient SA/PSA model by considering influences of magnitude,distance,and site class,which can be applied to cases not only with small or moderate magnitudes but also with large *** this purpose,regression analyses were conducted using 16,660 horizontal seismic records with a wider range of *** magnitude of these seismic records varies from 4 to 9 and the distances vary from 10 to 200 *** ground motions were recorded at 338 stations covering four site *** comparing them with existing models,it was found that the proposed model shows better accuracy for cases with any magnitudes,distances,and site classes considered in this study.

Preventive treatments for the invasion of Leucanthemum vulgare Lam.:exploring effects in rangeland ecosystems of Iran

Invasive species are increasingly spreading,particularly in rangeland *** is essential to evaluate the effectiveness of different methods for controlling invasive plants in these *** study aimed to investigate the effects of three strategies-21-year grazing exclusion(21-YES),mowing-grazing in rotation in alternate years(MGRS),and moderate grazing(MGS)-on the change in cover,density,and biomass of Leucanthemum vulgare Lam.(Ox-eye Daisy=OED)and the plant *** accomplish this,three sites selected for each *** 2021,270 vegetation plots were sampled using a random systematic ***,we recorded the density and canopy cover of all growth forms(forbs,grasses,and ferns),the OED biomass,and the ground *** results indicated that MGS reduced OED density,OED canopy,and OED ***,this strategy demonstrated the highest density and canopy cover of the plant community(including total,forbs,grasses,and ferns).Additionally,the strongest correlation was observed between the total canopy and the OED density(R2=-0.91,-0.95,-0.94 in 21-YES,MGRS,and MGS,respectively),as well as between the total canopy and the OED canopy(R2=-0.51,-0.98,-0.97 in 21-YES,MGRS,and MGS,respectively).The MGS led to an increase in diversity *** general,the grazing strategy has proven to be effective in controlling the spread of invasive OED and has also resulted in an increase in canopy cover,density,and diversity indices of the plant *** study highlights the importance of ongoing management efforts to control invasive species,with moderate grazing potentially serving as a more practical,culturally accepted,and costeffective short-term control strategy for widespread rangeland weed infestations.

Diversity and Morphometrics of Palm Weevils of the Genus Rhynchophorus in Maniema Province, Democratic Republic of Congo

An inventory of Rhynchophorus species was carried out to determine their diversity, biogeographical variability and morphometrics. A shotgun trapping method was used at nine sites in three districts over a four-month period, identifying three species: R. quadrangulus, R. phoenicis, R. ferrugineus and a probable variant of R. phoenicis. Of these species, R. phoenicis stands out as the most widespread palm weevil, while the probable variant of R. phoenicis is considered the rarest subspecies in the Maniema region. The color of the head and elytra is a criterion for distinguishing the different species of Rhynchophorus spp. Morphological criteria indicate that the probable subspecies of R. phoenicis is the largest palm weevil in the Maniema region and even globally. It is followed by R. quadrangulus and, by far, by R. phoenicis. The smallest palm weevil in Maniema is R. ferrugineus. Moreover, these criteria reveal that, for all three species identified, the female is generally larger than the male. This study has the merit of extending the distribution of R. ferrugineus from the Maghreb to the central East of the DRC, and highlighting a subspecies of R. phoenicis. Recognition of the sexes on the basis of the shape of the tip of the abdomen (oval in the male and flat in the female) is an additional contribution.

Dynamic stress concentration in an infinitely long cylindrical cavity due to a point spherical source embedded within a fluid-saturated poroelastic formation of infinite extent

The effects of a harmonically exciting monopole source on an infinitely long cylindrical cavity embedded entirely within a fluid-saturated poroelastic formation of infinite extent are examined theoretically. It is assumed that the source is located outside the cavity at a specified distance from the borehole axis. The magnitudes of the hoop and radial stresses beside the pore pressures exerted on the interface and inside the porous medium surrounding the borehole are calculated and discussed. Biot's poroelastic modeling along with three types of boundary conditions for the cylindrical interface including the ideal fluid, empty borehole, and rigid inclusion with a hard boundary is employed for the analysis. Utilizing a proper translational addition theorem for expressing the incident spherical wave in terms of cylindrical wave expansions, the proposed boundary conditions at the interface are satisfied. Stresses are formulated by means of wave potential functions in a three-dimensional(3D) manner. The effects of the frequency and the radial distance between the source and borehole on the induced stresses are examined for the first cylindrical modes over frequency spectra. Two permeability conditions for the interface and three types of soils for the porous formation are considered throughout the analysis. To give an overall outline of the study, a numerical example is presented. The results clearly indicate that the distance is a key parameter and has considerable effects on the induced stress values. In addition, the interface permeability condition and soil characteristics play an important role in determining the dynamic response of the borehole. Finally,the obtained results are compared with the relevant analyses existing in the literature for some limit cases, and good agreement is achieved.

On Sawada-Kotera and Kaup-Kuperschmidt integrable systems

To obtain new integrable nonlinear differential equations there are some well-known methods such as Lax equations with different Lax representations. There are also some other methods that are based on integrable scalar nonlinear partial differential equations. We show that some systems of integrable equations published recently are the M2-extension of integrable such scalar equations. For illustration, we give Korteweg–de Vries, Kaup-Kupershmidt, and SawadaKotera equations as examples. By the use of such an extension of integrable scalar equations, we obtain some new integrable systems with recursion operators. We also give the soliton solutions of the systems and integrable standard nonlocal and shifted nonlocal reductions of these systems.

Evidence for active generation and seepage of sub-salt natural gas/condensate blend in the east offshore Nile Delta, Egypt: Integrated geochemical, petrophysical and seismic attribute approaches

Offshore Nile Delta in Egypt represents an enormous hydrocarbon province with recent projected gas and condensate discoveries of more than 50 trillion cubic feet “TCF”. Most of these occur in the post-salt hydrocarbon plays where biogenic gases are dominant. This study integrates organic geochemistry,seismic geomorphology and petrophysics in order to decipher the origin, and accumulation conditions of the wet gas/condensate blend in the Upper Miocene sub-salt Wakar Formation sandstones in Port Fouad Marine “PFM” Field, offshore Nile Delta. Hydrocarbon pay zones are scattered thin（ 1 w.t.%, hydrogen index“HI” > 200 mg HC/g TOC） and mature(Tmax> 430°C, vitrinite reflectance “VR” > 0.6 %R_o), source rocks are restricted to Upper Miocene Wakar and Oligo-Miocene Tineh formations. The latter contains more mature organofacies（up to 1.2 %R_o） and type II/III kerogen, thereby demonstrating a good capability to generate wet gases. The studied gas is wet and has thermogenic origin with signs of secondary microbial alteration, whereas the condensate contains a mixture of marine and terrestrial input. Molecular biomarkers of the condensate, isotopic and molecular composition of the gas reveals a generation of condensate prior to gas expulsion from the source. The Wakar sandstones have a heterogeneous pore system where three reservoir rock types（RRTI, RRTII and RRTIII）. RRTI rocks present the bulk composition of the Wakar pay zones. Spatial distribution of RRTI facies likely control the accumulation of the sub-salt hydrocarbons. Dynamic Multi-Graph Spatio-Temporal Graph Traffic Flow Prediction in Bangkok:An Application of a Continuous Convolutional Neural Network

The ability to accurately predict urban traffic flows is crucial for optimising city ***,various methods for forecasting urban traffic have been developed,focusing on analysing historical data to understand complex mobility *** learning techniques,such as graph neural networks(GNNs),are popular for their ability to capture spatio-temporal ***,these models often become overly complex due to the large number of hyper-parameters *** this study,we introduce Dynamic Multi-Graph Spatial-Temporal Graph Neural Ordinary Differential Equation Networks(DMST-GNODE),a framework based on ordinary differential equations(ODEs)that autonomously discovers effective spatial-temporal graph neural network(STGNN)architectures for traffic prediction *** comparative analysis of DMST-GNODE and baseline models indicates that DMST-GNODE model demonstrates superior performance across multiple datasets,consistently achieving the lowest Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)and Mean Absolute Error(MAE)values,alongside the highest *** the BKK(Bangkok)dataset,it outperformed other models with an RMSE of 3.3165 and an accuracy of 0.9367 for a 20-min interval,maintaining this trend across 40 and 60 ***,on the PeMS08 dataset,DMST-GNODE achieved the best performance with an RMSE of 19.4863 and an accuracy of 0.9377 at 20 min,demonstrating its effectiveness over longer *** Los_Loop dataset results further emphasise this model’s advantage,with an RMSE of 3.3422 and an accuracy of 0.7643 at 20 min,consistently maintaining superiority across all time *** numerical highlights indicate that DMST-GNODE not only outperforms baseline models but also achieves higher accuracy and lower errors across different time intervals and datasets.

Unraveling the link between lipid oxidation and off-flavor development in grass carp fillets(Ctenopharyngodon idellus) during cold storage: A non-targeted lipidomics approach

Grass carp fillets were susceptible to unpleasant fishiness during cold storage. To clarify the mechanism of fishy odor formation and achieve targeted regulation， volatile compounds， and lipid oxidation were investigated in grass carp fillets during cold storage （0-7d）. The lipid oxidation degree increased continually during cold storage， as evidenced by the change of AV， POV， TBARS， and HP. The activities of related enzymes (LOX， LPS， PLA[2]， and HPL) maintained a high level， reaching their maximums after 3-5 days. Free fatty acids exhibited a great downtrend， especially linoleic acid （18:2） and arachidonic acid （20:4）. Forty-five volatile compounds were identified by solvent-assisted flavor evaporation-gas chromatography-mass spectrometer， and the total contents of volatile compounds increased from 706.55 μg/kg （0d） to 1370.65 μg/kg （7d）. （Z）-4-heptenal，（E，E）-2，4-hexadienal， 1-penten-3-ol， nonanal， and （E）-2-heptenal were the key volatile compounds. The Pearson correlation showed a strong correlation between 47 differentially abundant lipids （variables important in projection > 1， P value 2） and volatile compounds. During cold storage， lyso-phosphatidylcholine （20:4） and lyso-phosphatidylcholine （18:2） were selected as the main precursors of volatile compounds’ formation in grass carp fillets.

Tremendously enhanced catalytic performance of Fe(Ⅲ)/peroxymonosulfate process by trace Cu(Ⅱ):A high-valent metals domination in organics removal

Dissolved copper and iron ions are regarded as friendly and economic catalysts for peroxymonosulfate(PMS)activation,however,neither Cu(Ⅱ)nor Fe(Ⅲ)shows efficient catalytic performance because of the slow rates of Cu(Ⅱ)/Cu(Ⅰ)and Fe(Ⅲ)/Fe(Ⅱ)***,we observed a significant enhancement on the degradation of organic contaminants when Cu(Ⅱ)and Fe(Ⅲ)were coupled to activate PMS in borate(BA)*** degradation efficiency of Rhodamine B(RhB,20μmol/L)reached up to 96.3%within 10 min,which was higher than the sum of individual Cu(Ⅱ)-and Fe(Ⅲ)-activated PMS *** radical,hydroxyl radical and high-valent metal ions(i.e.,Cu(Ⅲ)and Fe(IV))were identified as the working reactive species for RhB removal in Cu(Ⅱ)/Fe(Ⅲ)/PMS/BA system,while the last played a predominated *** presence of BA dramatically facilitated the reduction of Cu(Ⅱ)to Cu(Ⅰ)via chelating with Cu(Ⅱ)followed by Fe(Ⅲ)reduction by Cu(Ⅰ),resulting in enhanced PMS activation by Cu(Ⅰ)and Fe(Ⅱ)as well as accelerated generation of reactive ***,the strong buffering capacity of BA to stabilize the solution pH was satisfying for the pollutants degradation since a slightly alkaline environment favored the PMS activation by coupling Cu(Ⅱ)and Fe(Ⅲ).In a word,this work provides a brand-new insight into the outstanding PMS activation by homogeneous bimetals and an expanded application of iron-based advanced oxidation processes in alkaline conditions.
