SmartSurf^(ACE)transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy with mitomycin C enhancement after small incision lenticule extraction

Background:To evaluate predictability,stability,efficacy,and safety of transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy(TPRK)using smart pulse technology(SPT)(SmartSurface procedure)of Schwind Amaris with mitomycin C for correction of post small incision lenticule extraction(SMILE)myopic residual refractive ***:This study is a prospective,non-comparative case series conducted at a private eye centre in Ismailia,Egypt,on eyes with post-SMILE myopic residual refractive errors because of undercorrection or suction loss(suction loss occurred after the posterior lenticular cut and the creation of side-cuts;redocking was attempted,and the treatment was completed in the same session with the same parameters)with myopia or myopic *** patients were followed up post-SMILE for six months before the SmartSurface procedure,and then they were followed up for one year after *** were performed using Amaris excimer laser at 500 *** main outcomes included refractive predictability,stability,efficacy,safety and any reported ***:This study included 68 eyes of 40 patients out of 1920 total eyes(3.5%)with post-SMILE technique myopic residual refractive *** average duration between the SMILE surgery and TPRK was 6.7±0.4 months(range 6 to 8 months).The mean refractive spherical equivalent(SE)was within±0.50 D of plano correction in 100%of the eyes at 12 months *** of<0.50 D was achieved in 100%of the *** mean of the residual SE error showed statistically significant improvement from preoperative−1.42±0.52 D to 0.23±0.10 D(P<0.0001).Uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA)(measured by Snellen’s chart and averaged in logMAR units)was improved significantly to 0.1±0.07(P<0.0001).UDVA was 0.2 logMAR or better in 100%of the eyes,0.1 logMAR or better in 91.2%of the eyes,and 0.0 logMAR in 20.6%of the *** distance visual acuity(CDVA)remained unchanged in 79.4%of eyes.14.7%of eyes gained one line of CDVA(Snellen).

Toxicity studies of elemental sulfur in marine sediments

Elemental sulfur(ES) is a component essential for proper development of animals, but it can be toxic for aquatic organisms. The objectives of the study reported here included determination of ES concentrations in sediment collected in the area of the Gulf of Gdansk(Baltic Sea) and search for the possible correlations with the ecotoxicity results. Sediment samples were collected from four locations: the Vistula River mouth, in the Port Basin, in the area of discharge of the treated wastewater from the Wastewater Treatment Plant(WWTP) and in the area of the sunken World War Ⅱ s/s 'Stuttgart' shipwreck. The levels of elemental sulfur were determined using a gas chromatograph coupled with a mass spectrometer(GC-MS). Toxicity of marine sediment samples was estimated for three biotest organisms-bioluminescent bacteria Vibrio fischeri, crustacean Heterocypris incongruens, and Synapis alba plant. The highest toxicity of sediments for all indicator organisms was observed in samples taken at the place of the shipwreck(2-100%). The same samples had a high sulfur content(16.7-143.2 μg/g dry weight(d.w.))therefore, it was decided to investigate whether the presence of ES in the sediment in the studied area can have an impact on the results of the ecotoxicity determination in real samples. However, the removal of sulfur from the samples resulted in no significant changes in the level of toxicity of the samples. In this research it could not be confirmed that the presence of elemental sulfur is the only factor responsible for the observed sediment toxicity. It seems that other compounds or their mixtures present in the sediment may have a significant influence on the results obtained.

Paleoseismological trenching and seismic hazard assessment of the Bozkurt Segment of the Maymundağı Fault, Acıgöl Graben, SW Türkiye

The Acıgöl Graben in SW Turkey,ca.50-55 km in length and 11-15 km in width,formed during the Miocene to Quaternary *** graben is bounded by active normal faults of MaymundağıFault(MF)to the northwest and the GemişFault Zone(GFZ)to the southeast that have triggered significant earthquakes,causing considerable *** study focuses on the Bozkurt segment of the MF,which caused a damaging earthquake(Mw 6.0)in 2019 and another significant earthquake in 1886 during historical times.A paleoseismological trench survey along the Bozkurt segment revealed at least two faulting events,with the last event producing a vertical displacement of 0.25 *** Optical Stimulated Luminescence(OSL)dating indicates that the last earthquake occurred 3.13±0.33 ka BP,while the penultimate earthquake occurred 4.0±0.72 ka *** dates correspond to a long-term slip rate of approximately 0.36±0.11 mm/a and a mean recurrence interval of 2.08 ka,short-term slip rate 0.78±0.16 mm/a and recurrence interval of 0.96 ka,and compatible with the mean sedimentation rate of 0.26 mm/a,calculated from drill logs in Acıgöl *** the 6 km length of the Bozkurt segment and its vertical displacement of 0.25 m in the last event,this segment has the potential to generate earthquakes ranging from 5.6 to 5.9 ***-term slip rates derived from geomorphological data are 0.56 mm/year to the north and 0.64 mm/a to the south of the graben,indicating higher subsidence on the southern *** rates are in accordance with the slip rates calculated from the paleoseismological trench survey and sedimentation rate from the *** indications show that the Bozkurt segment is an active Holocene fault with relatively long recurrence intervals and low-slip ***,the paleoseismological studies in combination with geomorphological data are important tool to assess seismic hazards and to define the characteristics of individual fault segments.

Botulinum toxin augmented bilateral lateral rectus recession versus three muscles surgery in large-angle intermittent exotropia

AIM: To report the surgical outcomes of correcting large angle intermittent exotropia in adult patients by bilateral lateral rectus muscle recession with intraoperative use of botulinum toxin and to compare the results with those of bilateral lateral rectus muscle recession and unilateral medial rectus resection. METHODS: The medical records of patients who underwent surgical correction of large angle intermittent exotropia [exotropia >50 prism dioptre(PD)] were retrospectively reviewed. Two groups of patients were identified;Group Ⅰ(21 patients) had bilateral lateral recti recession augmented with intraoperative botulinum toxin A(BTA) injection into the recessed muscles and group Ⅱ(30 patients) were treated by bilateral lateral recti recession with unilateral medial rectus muscle resection. Preoperative data were extracted for age, gender, refraction, type of exotropia, angle of stereopsis and angle of deviation. The main outcome measures were the postoperative angle of deviation and stereoacuity angle by Titmus test measured at the end of one year of postoperative follow up. RESULTS: By the end of the first postoperative year, 10 patients in group Ⅰ(47.6%) and 20 patients in group Ⅱ(66.7%) achieved esotropia/esophoria <5 PD or exotropia/exophoria <10 PD. The difference in surgical success rate was not statistically significant(P=0.1) but there was a statistically significant higher rate of undercorrection in group Ⅰ(P=0.03). On the other hand, 3 patients in group Ⅰ(14.3%) and 5 patients in group Ⅱ(16.7%) had improved stereopsis;this difference in the sensory outcome was not statistically significant(P=0.8). In the BTA augmented surgery group, good stereoacuity and smaller preoperative angle of deviation were associated with significantly higher surgical success rate(P=0.004, 0.01 respectively). Adaptive Under-Frequency Load Shedding

Under-frequency load shedding （UFLS） is used in the power industry to rescue systems facing extreme disturbances to avoid system collapse. Traditionally, many computations are repeated to seek the proper power system settings such that the UFLS provides the desired good performance for selected scenarios. An adaptive UFLS method based on the genetic algorithm was developed to automate the finding of optimal parameters to minimize the repetitive trial-error calculations. Simulations demonstrate that the method has better performance than previous schemes and reduces the time and effort of the repetitive simulations.

The novel and facile preparation of magnetically interconnected micro/macroporous structure of monolithic porous carbon adsorbent(MPCA)were designed and presented *** synthesis was achieved via conventional freezedrying and pyrolysis *** this study,sodium alginate and wasted black liquor were employed as starting *** alginate acts as a template of materials,whereas black liquor,the wasted product from the paper industry with plentiful of lignin content and alkaline solution,played an essential role in the reinforcement and activation of porosity for the resulting ***,both the precursors were well dissolved in Fe^(3+) solution,providing a simple addition of a magnetic source in a one-pot *** interconnected micro/macroporous structures were generated through freeze-drying and,subsequently the pyrolysis *** obtained cylindricalshaped monolithic porous carbon adsorbent(MPCA-700)showed high mechanical stability,a high BET specific surface area(902 m^(2)/g).Such aforementioned features were considered suitable to make the synthesized monolith as an adsorbent for the removal of heavy metal *** maximum adsorption capacity of MPCA-700 towards Pb^(2+) ions was 76.34 mg/g at pH *** adsorption studies illustrated that adsorption kinetics and isotherm perfectly fitted with the pseudo-second-order kinetics model and Langmuir isotherm,*** work presents a promising protocol to reduce the overall costs in the preparation of renewable adsorbents with good adsorption efficiency and regeneration.

Secure Resource Allocation in Device-to-Device Communications Underlaying Cellular Networks

With increasing the demand for transmitting secure information in wireless networks,deviceto-device(D2D)communication has great potential to improve system *** a well-known security risk is eavesdropping in D2D communication,ensuring information security is quite *** this paper,we first obtain the closed-forms of the secrecy outage probability(SOP)and the secrecy ergodic capacity(SEC)for direct and decodeand-forward(DF)relay *** results are presented to verify the theoretical results,and these results show the cases that the DF relay mode improves security performance compared to the direct mode at long distances between the transmitter and receiver ***,we look into the optimization problems of secure resource allocation in D2D communication to maximize the SEC and to minimize the SOP by considering the strictly positive secrecy capacity constraint as a mixed-integer non-linear programming(MINLP)*** the continue,we convert the MINLP to convex ***,we solve this program with a dual method and obtain an optimal solution in the direct and DF relay modes.

Strategies in training deep learning models to extract building from multisource images with small training sample sizes

Building extraction from remote sensing data is an important topic in urban studies and the deep learning methods have an increasing role due to their minimal requirements in training data to reach outstanding *** aimed to investigate the original U-Net architecture’s efficiency in building segmentation with different number of training images and the role of data augmentation based on multisource remote sensing data with varying spatial and spectral resolutions(WorldView-2[WV2],WorldView-3[WV3]images and an aerial orthophoto[ORTHO]).When the trainings and predictions were conducted on the same image,U-Net provided good results with very few training images(validation accuracies:94-97%;192 images).Combining the ORTHO’s and WV2’s training data for prediction on WV3 provided poor results with low F1-score(0.184).However,the inclusion of only 48 WV3 training images significantly improved the F1-score(0.693),thus,most buildings were correctly ***,using only independent reference data(other than the target image)is not enough to train an accurate *** our case,the reference from WW2 and ORTHO images did not provide an acceptable basis to train a good model,but a minimal number of training images from the targeted WV3 improved the accuracy(F1-score:69%).

Developing a reliable route protocol for mobile self-organization networks

Mobile ad hoc networks(MANETs),which correspond to a novel wireless technology,are widely used in Internet of Things(IoT)systems such as drones,wireless sensor networks,and military or disaster relief *** the perspective of communication and data collection,the success rate of collaborations between nodes in mobile ad hoc networks and reliability of data collection mainly depend on whether the nodes in the network operate normally,namely,according to the established network ***,mobile ad hoc networks are vulnerable to attacks targeting transmission channels and nodes owing to their dynamic evolution,openness,and distributed ***,during the network operation,it is necessary to classify and detect the behavior and characteristics of each ***,most existing research only analyzes and considers responses against a single or small number of *** address these issues,this article first systematically analyzed and classified common active attacks in ***,a node trust model was proposed based on the characteristics of various attacks;subsequently,a new secure routing protocol,namely,TC-AODV,was *** protocol has minimal effect on the original communication dynamics and can effectively deal with Packet drop,wormhole,Session hijacking,and other main attacks in *** NS3 simulation results show that the proposed routing protocol attains good transmission performance,can effectively identify various attacks and bypass malicious nodes,and securely complete the communication process.
