Insight into the Disciplinary Structure of Nanoscience & Nanotechnology

Purpose： This paper aims to gain an insight into the disciplinary structure of nanoscience ＆ nanotechnology （N＆N）： What is the disciplinary network of N＆N like？ Which disciplines are being integrated into N＆N over time？ For a specific discipline, how many other disciplines have direct or indirect connections with it？ What are the distinct subgroups of N＆N at different evolutionary stages？ Such critical issues are to be addressed in this paper. Design/methodology/approach： We map the disciplinary network structure of N＆N by employing the social network analysis tool, Netdraw, identifying which Web of Science Categories （WCs） mediate nbetweenness centrality in different stages of nano development. Cliques analysis embedded in the Ucinet program is applied to do the disciplinary cluster analysis in the study according to the path of ＂Network-Subgroup-Cliques,＂ and a tree diagram is selected as the visualizing type. Findings： The disciplinary network structure reveals the relationships among different disciplines in the N＆N developing process clearly, and it is easy for us to identify which disciplines are connected with the core ＂N＆N＂ directly or indirectly. The tree diagram showing N＆N related disciplines provides an interesting perspective on nano research and development （R＆D） structure. Research limitations： The matrices used to draw the N＆N disciplinary network are the original ones, and normalized matrix could be tried in future similar studies. Practical implications： Results in this paper can help us better understand the disciplinary structure of N＆N, and the dynamic evolution of N＆N related disciplines over time. The findings could benefit R＆D decision making. It can support policy makers from government agencies engaging in science and technology （S＆T） management or S＆T strategy planners to formulate efficient decisions according to a perspective of converging sciences and technologies. A two-parameter multiple shooting method and its application to the natural vibrations of non-prismatic multi-segment beams

This paper presents an enhanced version of the standard shooting method that enables problems with two unknown parameters to be solved.A novel approach is applied to the analysis of the natural vibrations of Euler-Bernoulli *** proposed algorithm,named as two-parameter multiple shooting method,is a new powerful numerical tool for calculating the natural frequencies and modes of multi-segment prismatic and non-prismatic beams with different boundary *** impact of the axial force and additional point masses is also taken into *** to the fact that the method is based directly on the fourth-order ordinary differential equation,the structures do not have to be divided into many small elements to obtain an accurate enough solution,even though the geometry is very *** verify the proposed method,three different examples are considered,i.e.,a three-segment non-prismatic beam,a prismatic column subject to non-uniformly distributed compressive loads,and a two-segment beam with an additional point *** analyses are carried out with the software *** results are compared with the solutions computed by the commercial finite element program *** agreement is achieved,which confirms the correctness and high effectiveness of the formulated algorithm.

The nestedness property has become an increasingly important means for devising efficient algorithms for network location *** have been attempts to explore the nestedness property of network location problems with some special cases of the convex ordered median ***,there is little research on the nestedness property for those problems with the concave ordered median *** paper constructs a tree network T and shows that the nestedness property cannot hold for the concave ordered median problem,which fills a gap in the research on the nestedness ***,the authors pose an open problem on identifying the nestedness property for the continuous strategic ordered median problem.

Free vibration of a sagged cable with attached discrete elements

An algorithm is presented to analyze the free vibration in a system composed of a cable with discrete elements, e.g., a concentrated mass, a translational spring, and a harmonic oscillator. The vibrations in the cable are modeled and analyzed with the Lagrange multiplier formalism. Some fragments of the investigated structure are modeled with continuously distributed parameters, while the other fragments of the structure are modeled with discrete elements. In this case, the linear model of a cable with a small sag serves as a continuous model, while the elements, e.g., a translational spring, a concentrated mass, and a harmonic oscillator, serve as the discrete elements. The method is based on the analytical solutions in relation to the constituent elements, which, when once derived, can be used to formulate the equations describing various complex systems compatible with an actual structure. The numerical analysis shows that, the method proposed in this paper can be successfully used to select the optimal parameters of a system composed of a cable with discrete elements, e.g., to detune the frequency resonance of some structures.

Bayesian Networks for the Age Classification of Living Individuals: A Study on Transition Analysis

Over the past few decades,age estimation of living persons has represented a challenging task for many forensic services ***莒eneral,the process for age estimation includes the observation of the degree of maturity reached by some physical attributes,such as dentition or several ossification *** estimated chronological age or the probability that an individual belongs to a meaningful class of ages is then obtained from the observed degree of maturity by means of various statistical *** these methods,those developed in a Bayesian framework offer to users the possibility of coherently dealing with the uncertainty associated with age estimation and of assessing in a transparent and logical way the probability that an examined individual is younger or older than a given age ***,a Bayesian network for age estimation has been presented in scientific literature;this kind of probabilistic graphical tool may facilitate the use of the probabilistic *** of interest in the network are assigned by means of transition analysis,a statistical parametric model,which links the chronological age and the degree of maturity by means of specific regression models,such as logit or probit *** different regression models can be employed in transition analysis,the aim of this paper is to study the influence of the model in the classification of *** analysis was performed using a dataset related to the ossifications status of the medial clavicular epiphysis and results support that the classification of individuals is not dependent on the choice of the regression model.

The Impact of Social Support on the Mental Health of Cancer Patients:Evidence from China

Exploring the relationship between social support and the mental health of cancer patients is a vital endeavor for enhancing mental *** objective of this study was to explore the relationship between social support and psychological well-being in cancer patients and to provide new empirical evidence for psychological improvement in cancer *** research holds significant practical implications for optimizing China’s public health system and strengthening the development of a healthy *** data from the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS)database,we empirically examined the influence of social support on the mental health of cancer *** such as Ordered Probit and OLogit were used to provide empirical evidence and theoretical insights for enhancing the mental health of cancer patients in a context marked by a high prevalence of *** findings indicated that both formal and informal social support mechanisms were effective in improving the mental health of cancer ***,we utilized the propensity score matching(PSM)model to eliminate the endogeneity issue associated with sample selectivity *** results obtained through PSM demonstrated robustness,underscoring the importance of addressing sample selectivity bias when assessing the impact of social support on the mental health of cancer ***,the Chinese government is recommended to prioritize the use of social support as a means to proactively enhance the mental health of cancer patients,thereby continuously elevating their overall quality of life.

The Role of the Subjectivist Position in the Probabilization of Forensic Science

This paper is concerned with the contribution of forensic science to the legal process by helping reduce *** it is now widely accepted that uncertainty should be handled by probability because it is a safeguard against incoherent proceedings,there remain diverging and conflicting views on how probability ought to be *** is exemplified by the proposals in scientific literature that call for procedures of probability computation that are referred to as"objective,"suggesting that scientists ought to use them in their reporting to recipients of expert information.I find such proposals *** need to be viewed cautiously,essentially because ensuing probabilistic statements can be perceived as making forensic science prescriptive.A motivating example from the context of forensic DNA analysis will be chosen to illustrate *** a main point,it shall be argued that such constraining suggestions can be avoided by interpreting probability as a measure of personal belief,that is,subjective *** references to foundational literature from mathematical statistics and philosophy of science,the discussion will explore the consequences of this interdisciplinary viewpoint for the practice of forensic expert *** will be emphasized that-as an operational interpretation of probability_the subjectivist perspective enables forensic science to add value to the legal process,in particular by avoiding inferential impasses to which other interpretations of probability may ***,understanding probability from a subjective perspective can encourage participants in the legal process to take on more responsibility in matters regarding the coherent handling of *** would assure more balanced interactions at the interface between science and the ***,in turn,provides support for ongoing developments that can be called the"probabilization"of forensic science.

According to the analysis of virtual operation trend of agricultural product logistics enterprise, this paper expatiates the concept and characteristics of agricultural product virtual logistics enterprise(APVLE) and proposes four steps to build an APVLE, including the analysis of key elements about APVLE, the identification about agricultural product logistics business, the project decomposition of APVLE and the partner selection in APVLE.
