The successful development of hydrogen-energy technologies has several advantages and ***-energy development could prevent global warming as well as ensure energy security for countries without adequate energy *** successful development of hydrogen would provide energy for transportation and electric *** is a unique energy carrier,as it can be produced from various energy sources such as wind,fossil fuels and biomass and,when it is combusted,it emits no CO_(2)*** other advantage is the wide distribution of resources globally that can be used to produce *** Japan,the Ministry of economy,Trade and Industry(METI)published a‘Strategic Roadmap for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells’in 2014,with a revised update published in March *** goal of the roadmap is to achieve a hydrogen *** roadmap aims to resolve technical problems and secure economic *** roadmap has been organized into the following three phases:Phase 1-Installation of fuel cells;Phase 2-Hydrogen power plant/mass supply chain;Phase 3-CO_(2)-free *** paper reports on the current status of fuel cells and fuel-cell vehicles in Japan and gives a description and status of the R&D programmes along with the results of global energy model study towards 2050.

Earthquake engineering research needs in light of lessons learned from the 2011 Tohoku earthquake

Earthquake engineering research and development have received much attention since the first half of the twentieth century. This valuable research presented a huge step forward in understanding earthquake hazard mitigation,which resulted in appreciable reduction of the effects of past earthquakes. Nevertheless,the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and the subsequent tsunami resulted in major damage. This paper presents the timeline of earthquake mitigation and recovery,as seen by the authors. Possible research directions where the authors think that many open questions still remain are identified. These are primarily based on the important lessons learned from the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.

In the reaction process of carbonate desulfurization lead paste,the produced PbCO_(3) is easily wrapped in the outer periphery of PbSO_(4) to form a product layer,hindering the mass transfer ***,it is necessary to break the PbCO_(3) product *** this work,the rotor stator-reinforced reactor was selected as the enhanced desulfurization reactor for the purpose of breaking the PbCO_(3) product layer and promoting mass *** breakage process of the PbCO_(3) product layer generated during the PbSO_(4) desulfurization was *** fluid dynamics simulation to the rotation conditions was carried out to theoretically analyze the fluid flow characteristics of PbSO_(4) slurry and the wall shear stress affecting the breakage of PbCO_(3) product *** optimizing the rotation conditions,the distribution ratio of effective rotor wall shear stress range achieved 96.1%,and the stator wall shear stress range reached 99.15%under a rotation of 2000 r·min^(-1).The research work provides a reference for analysis of the mechanism of product layer breakage in the PbSO_(4) desulfurization process,and gives a clear and intuitive systematic study on the fluid flow characteristics and wall shear stress of the desulfurization reactor.

New SAR Imaging Algorithm via the Optimal Time-Frequency Transform Domain

To address the low-resolution imaging problem in relation to traditional Range Doppler(RD)algorithm,this paper intends to propose a new algorithm based on Fractional Fourier Transform(FrFT),which proves highly advantageous in the acquisition of high-resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR)*** expression of the optimal order of SAR range signals using FrFT is deduced in detail,and the corresponding expression of the azimuth signal is also *** analysis shows that,the optimal order in range(azimuth)direction,which turns out to be very unique,depends on the known imaging parameters of SAR,therefore the engineering practicability of FrFT-RD algorithm can be greatly improved without the need of order *** FrFT-RD algorithm is established after an analysis of the optimal time-frequency *** results demonstrate that,compared with traditional RD algorithm,the main-lobe width of the peak-point target of FrFT-RD algorithm is narrow in both range and azimuth *** the peak amplitude of the first side-lobe is reduced significantly,those of other side-lobes also drop in various *** this way,the imaging resolution of range and azimuth can be increased considerably.

The socio-economic attribute of geo-hazard made us distinguish it from the traditional engineering geology study. It will get more social benefit from the analysis of the geo-hazard in the socio-economic attribute. The hazard and the vulnerability of the element controls the risk level of the regional geo-hazard. The risk analysis supported by GIS in geo-hazard study is one of the most important directions. Based on the author’s studies in recent years, a risk analysis system of regional geo-hazard (RiskAnly) has been developed on the basis of software MAPGIS. The paper introduces the train of system design, the structure and the workflow of RiskAnly. As a case study, the paper also deals with the risk zonation of the regional landslide hazard of China.

The life cycle phase of fossil fuel extraction is mainly considered in the life cycle assessment(LCA)when evaluating the energy production *** is then only one of many unit processes,which contribute to the blurring of mining-relevant *** are few items in the literature focusing exclusively on the lignite mining phase and analysing the specific mining conditions and associated environmental *** article focuses on the LCA of lignite mining processes on the basis of data coming from a Polish *** technology for opencast lignite mining is noted for its high production efficiency,high level of recovery and lower risk as regards the safety of workers when compared with underground mining ***,the need to remove large amounts of overburden to uncover the deposit contributes to a much greater degradation of the *** the results obtained,several key(hot spot)elements of the lignite mining operations were distinguished for modelling the environmental impact,i.e.:calorific value,the amount of electricity consumption,the manner in which waste and overburden are *** a result there is a high sensitivity of the final indicator to changes in these impacts.

Bilateral maxillary fused second and third molars:a rare occurrence

This case report describes the diagnosis and endodontic therapy of maxillary fused second and third molars, using cone-beam computed tomography （CBCT）. A 31-year-old Chinese male, with no contributory medical or family/social history, presented with throbbing pain in the maxillary right molar area following an unsuccessful attempted tooth extraction. Clinical examination revealed what appeared initially to be a damaged large extra cusp on the buccal aspect of the distobuccal cusp of the second molar. However, CBCT revealed that a third molar was fused to the second molar. Unexpectedly, the maxillary left third molar also was fused to the second molar, and the crown of an unerupted supernumerary fourth molar was possibly also fused to the apical root region of the second molar. Operative procedures should not be attempted without adequate radiographic investigation. CBCT allowed the precise location of the root canals of the right maxillary fused molar teeth to permit successful endodontic therapy, confirmed after 6 months.

Does Foreign Direct Investment Affect the Growth of Local Firms? The Case of China's Electrical and Electronics Industry

Does foreign direct investment （FDI） into developing countries affect the growth of local firms in host countries？ Using a dataset of 38 sectors in China ＇s electrical and electronics industry, in this paper, we analyze whether FDI has a positive effect on loeal firms, with technology spillovers, added value and increasing total faetor productivity, or a negative, market stealing, effect. Estimating the relationship between growth of local firms and investment offoreign firms, our results show that FDI is likely to have a negative impact on the growth of local firms in sectors with large disparities in technology and less experience in business. Therefore, local firms lacking in technology need to find markets with no competition from foreign firms or determine strategies to compensate technology disparities.

Pegging the RMB exchange rate to the Asian short term, been proved a better solution than currency unit （A CU） has not, at least in the pegging to the US dollar or pegging to a G- 3 （US$, Japaneseyen and euro） currency basket. Although the Asian currency unit can help Asian economies to keep the relative price of regional currencies stable, the cost of joining a formal regional monetary cooperation is the relinquishment of the autonomy of their domestic policies. Asian monetary cooperation needs to provide more potential benefits if it is to attract Asian economies. We argue that Asian monetary cooperation should be designed to solve the problem of regional trade imbalance, and regional exchange rate policy coordination should be adopted as the first step towards exchange rate cooperation.
