Numerical P systems(for short, NP systems) are distributed and parallel computing models inspired from the structure of living cells and economics. Enzymatic numerical P systems(for short, ENP systems) are a variant of NP systems, which have been successfully applied in designing and implementing controllers for mobile robots. Since ENP systems were proved to be Turing universal, there has been much work to simplify the universal systems, where the complexity parameters considered are the number of membranes, the degrees of polynomial production functions or the number of variables used in the *** the number of enzymatic variables, which is essential for ENP systems to reach universality, has not been investigated. Here we consider the problem of searching for the smallest number of enzymatic variables needed for universal ENP systems. We prove that for ENP systems as number acceptors working in the all-parallel or one-parallel mode, one enzymatic variable is sufficient to reach universality; while for the one-parallel ENP systems as number generators, two enzymatic variables are sufficient to reach *** results improve the best known results that the numbers of enzymatic variables are 13 and 52 for the all-parallel and one-parallel systems, respectively.

Although high quality multiple sequence alignment is an essential task in bioinforma- tics, it becomes a big dilemma nowadays due to the gigantic explosion in the amount of molecular data. The most consuming time and space phase is the distance matrix computation. This paper addresses this issue by proposing a vectorized parallel method that accomplishes the huge number of similarity comparisons faster in less space. Per- formance tests on real biological datasets using core-iT show superior results in terms of time and space.

Given a graph G with n vertices and an Abelian group A of order n, an A-distance antimagic labelling of G is a bijection from V（G） to A such that the vertices of G have pairwise distinct weights, where the weight of a vertex is the sum （under the operation of A） of the labels assigned to its neighbours. An A-distance magic labelling of G is a bijection from V（G） to A such that the weights of all vertices of G are equal to the same element of A. In this paper we study these new labellings under a general setting with a focus on product graphs. We prove among other things several general results on group antimagic or magic labellings for Cartesian, direct and strong products of graphs. As applications we obtain several families of graphs admitting group distance antimagic or magic labellings with respect to elementary Abelian groups, cyclic groups or direct products of such groups.

Micron-sized nonspherical polymer particles having different morphologies were synthesized by seeded soap-free emulsion polymerization of styrene （St） and ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate （EGDMA, used as a crosslinker） on spherical, linear polystyrene （PS） seed particles. The morphology of the resulting PS/poly（St-co-EGDMA） particles was dependent on the crosslinker concentration and polymerization temperature.

In this study, objective differences between the Cold (Han) and Hot (Re) nature of traditional Chinese medicines, e.g. Strobal and Rhubarb, are determined by using a cold/hot plate differentiation technology. A novel, self-designed cold/hot plate differentiating instrument, with methodological study, was used to investigate the intervention of Strobal and Rhubarb on the temperature tropism of mice. Compared with the ICR and BALB/c mice, it was found that KM mice on the cold/hot plate were more sensitive to the change of temperature, within the tolerant temperature range of 15-40 ℃ . The temperature tropism behavior of mice is influenced by treatment with Rhubarb and Strobal, as is the activity of ATPase in liver tissue. These trends are consistent with the definition of the Cold/Hot nature of Chinese medicines based on traditional Chinese medicinal theory. This study showed that the differences of the Cold/Hot nature of traditional Chinese medicines. might be objectively represented by the temperature tropism of animal by means of cold/hot differentiating assay.

Limonoid bitterness is a serious problem in the citrus industry worldwide. Limonoid glucosyltransferase is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of bitter limonoid into non-bitter limonoid glucoside while retaining the health benefit of limonoids in the juice. The immobilization of this enzyme in a column can solve the juice bitterness problem. More information about the catalytic residues of the enzyme is needed in this immobilization process. Glutamate/aspartate,histidine,lysine,tryptophan,serine,and cysteine residues were chemi-cally modified to investigate their roles in the catalytic function of limonoid glucosyltransferase. Inactivation of the enzyme following modi-fication of carboxyl and imidazole moieties was a consequence of a loss in substrate binding and catalysis in the glucosyltransfer reaction. The modification of a single histidine residue completely destroyed the ability of limonoid glucosyltransferase to transfer the D-glucopyranosyl unit. Tryptophan seemed to have some role in maintaining the active conformation of the catalytic site. Lysine also seemed to have some direct or indirect role in this catalysis but the modification of serine and cysteine did not have any effect on catalysis. Therefore,we conclude that the carboxyl and imidazole groups containing amino acids are responsible for the catalytic action of the enzyme.
