Objective:To evaluate the contribution of poses screen pre-impregnated(PSP) installed at openings and eaves of dwellings in the reduction of malaria transmission in the commune of Aguegues in ***:The PSP were manufactured from preimpregnated Olyset *** were installed at windows,eaves and doors of 70 dwellings.320 children aged 6-59 months were treated and 311 children were recruited in the control *** measured are:plasmodic index(IP),gametoeyte index,parasite density(PD),fever,hemoglobin,anemia. Results:The global IP was 16.62%with PSP and 72.20%without *** index did not differ significantly between the treated zone(27.8) and the control zone(29.1).The total geometric mean of DP was 309 in the treated zone and 600 in the control *** level is 8.7 in the control zone and 9.5 in the treated *** noted a predominance of anemia in the control zone compared to the treated ***:The PSP have contributed to a significant reduction in morbidity in the commune of Aguegues.

Genetic Polymorphisms and Toxicities of First-Line Antituberculosis Drugs: Systematic Review of the Literature

Introduction: Polymorphisms are the main genetic factors associated with toxicities of antituberculosis drugs. This literature review summarizes the polymorphisms of the genes that code for the enzymes of the metabolism of antituberculosis drugs and their transmembrane transporters. Some mechanisms of drug-associated toxicities and strategies for their management have also been described in this review. Methods: The bibliographic searches were exclusively carried out in PubMed, over a period of ten years (2010-2020). The search terms were the words “toxicity + antituberculosis drug + one or two word(s) among the following: polymorphism, genetics, mutation, SNP, HLA or haplotype”. Publications in English or French, relating to the various toxicities associated with first-line anti-tuberculosis drugs (Rifampicin, Isoniazid, Ethambutol and Pyrazinamide) administered to patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, extrapulmonary tuberculosis or co-infected with TB/HIV were included in this review. Duplicates, in vitro, in silico or drug-induced toxicity studies other than antituberculosis drugs and genetic mutations of Mycobacteria strains were not included. Results: The studies selected and included were case reports, cohort studies, original research, systematic reviews and meta-analyses on human subjects of different ethnic origins. Hepatotoxicity is the most common toxicity associated with NAT2, CYP2E1, GSTM1 and GSTT1 polymorphisms in patients on antituberculosis drugs. Other forms of toxicity, less frequent, occurring in certain patients under concomitant treatment with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), antiretrovirals (ARVs), antibiotics or antiepileptics have also been identified. Conclusion: The genetic polymorphisms associated with the toxicities of antituberculosis drugs concern both the main enzymes of the metabolic pathways (NAT2, CYP2E1, GST) and the transmembrane transporters (SLCO1B1 and ABCB1). A Rare Tumor of the Scalp: Papilliferous Cystadenoma

Introduction: Papilliferous cystadenoma is a rare adnexal tumor of early childhood. Case Report: We report a case of papilliferous cystadenoma of the scalp in a 22-year-old adult with no previous history of the disease. She had been presenting with a slowly progressing scalp mass for about 10 years. The mass was mildly pruritic and painless, but the patient reported several painful episodes treated with local herbal applications and unspecified antibiotics. On inspection, the lesion was raised, granular, sessile and vegetated, greyish in color, with an irregular surface, nippled and hemispherical in shape. On palpation, the lesion was painless, fleshy and surrounded by crusts that were easily removed by applying a saline-moistened compress. The patient underwent excision with at least 4-mm margins. Pathological examination of the operative specimen revealed a papilliferous syringocystadenoma. There was no tumor recurrence after three years. Conclusion: Papilliferous cystadenoma is a rare benign tumor of the scalp requiring clinical analysis and surgical excision to confirm its histological nature. Post-operative follow-up is necessary due to frequent recurrences.

Peripheral Neuropathy and Associated Factors in Diabetics at the CNHU-HKM of Cotonou in 2021

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is a common complication of diabetes. The main objective of the study was to determine the prevalence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy and associated factors in diabetics in the university Clinic of Endocrinology Metabolism Nutrition of the CNHU-HKM, Cotonou, Benin 2021. This was a cross-sectional, analytical study that ran from 23 September to 23 December 2021. Admitted diabetic patients seen in consultation during the study period were included. The DN4 tool was used as the basis for data collection. Data analysis was performed using R software version 3.6.1. Multivariate analysis was used to identify factors associated with DPN. Out of 155 diabetics, 54 patients had diabetic peripheral neuropathy, a prevalence of 34.8%. The average age of our patients was 56.8 years and 56.8% were female. Of the patients, 54.7% had unbalanced diabetes. An association between DPN and gender (p = 0.022), occupation (p = 0.004), education (p = 0.011), hypertension (p = 0.017), smoking (p = 0.031), diabetic imbalance (p = 0.001), diabetic retinopathy (p = 0.020) and dyslipidaemia (p = 0.015) was observed. DPN was also associated with erectile dysfunction in men (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is common (34.8). Its occurrence is indicative of the presence of associated factors.

Microalbuminuria and Associated Factors in Diabetics at the CNHU-HKM of Cotonou

Diabetes mellitus is a disease of great frequency and is a major public health problem. Several complications can occur during the course of diabetes such as diabetic nephropathy, which starts with microalbuminuria in diabetic patients. This was a cross-sectional and analytical study which took place from 23 September to 23 December 2021 in the Endocrinology-Metabolism-Nutrition Department of the CNHU-HKM of Cotonou, Benin. We carried out an exhaustive census of the patients. Type 2 diabetic patients were included in the study, and 24-hour microalbumunuria, fundus examination and assessment of complications were performed. We identified 145 type 2 diabetic patients of whom 44 had positive microalbuminuria, i.e. a prevalence of 30.3%. There were 61 men and 84 women with a sex ratio of 0.72. The mean age was 59 years with extremes of 26 and 85 years. The complications identified in diabetics with positive microalbuminuria were Neuropathy (43.2%), Nephropathy (22.7%) and Retinopathy (20.5%). Factors associated with microalbuminuria in diabetics were: age, occupation, hypertension, diabetes imbalance, erectile dysfunction. Conclusion: Microalbuminuria is common in type 2 diabetes. It should be managed early to slow the progression of kidney disease to the end stage.

Epidemiological and Psychosocial Profile of Juvenile Delinquency: Case Study of Delinquent Children and Adolescents under Court Order in Benin (2015)

Background: Given the scale of juvenile delinquency in Benin, families, judicial bodies and the society seemed overwhelmed. The objective was to study the epidemiological and psychosocial profile of delinquent children and adolescents under court order (DCAUCO) in Benin civil prisons in 2015. Methods of study: It was a descriptive and cross-sectional study which involved 117 children aged 11 to 18 years, recruited from 6th May to 10th September 2015 in nine Civil Prisons and a Child and Adolescent Care Center in Benin. Data were collected through face-to-face interview between the interviewer and the interviewee in addition to ASSIST-WHO, Family Assessment Device and ParentalAcceptance and Rejection Scale. Results: The average age was 16.1 ± 1.1 years, ranging from 11 to 18 years. Sex ratio M/F was 22.4. School dropout rate was 76.9%. Orphans represented 53.9%. The proportion of juvenile offenders coming from broken families was 30.8%. Theft (46.2%) and rape (19.7%) were the main offenses committed. 99.1% had no criminal records and the judge requested for all of them a detention warrant. Psychoactive substance consumption records (46.2%) were found, including: alcohol (46.2%), tobacco (23.9%), and cannabis (10.3%). They felt maternal and paternal absence respectively in 48.7% and 44.4% cases and pleaded guilty in 71.8%. Pleading guilty was a resilience factor on which the counseling would have to rely for their rehabilitation and social reintegration.

Introduction: Foreign bodies (FB) can constitute a life-threatening emergency by their nature or their location. The objective of this study was to describe the socio-demographic, diagnostic and therapeutic characteristics of FB in the ENT department of CHUZ-Suru Léré in Cotonou. Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study, with retrospective data collection spanning a period of ten (10) years from January 1st, 2013 to December 31st, 2022. Patients of all ages seen in consultations in the ENT and CCF department of the CHUZ-Suru Léré during the study period and meeting the inclusion criteria were taken into account. Results: During the study period, 1810 cases of FB were collected among the 13,947 consultations, i.e. a hospital frequency of 12.98%. The age of the patients varied from 19 days to 94 years with a predominance of children under 10 years (60.2%). The sex ratio (male/female) was 1.13. The duration between the onset of FB and the medical consultation was greater than 72 hours in 88.49% of cases. The circumstances of occurrence of FB were unknown in 86.34% of cases. The external acoustic meatus was the most common location (90.22%). The nature of FB was inorganic in 86.80% of cases dominated by earwax plugs (77.90%), and organic FB in 7.96% of cases dominated by cotton (3.98%). All FB were extracted by the route of introduction except one case. The extraction was performed most often in the consultation chair (97.07% of cases). The evolution was generally favorable (99.94%). Conclusion: ENT foreign bodies are a frequent reason for consultation and mainly affect male children. They are usually inorganic. Evolution is generally favorable after extraction. Prevention remains the best solution.

Epidemiology of Low Birth Weight in the Lake Areas of Cotonou (Benin Republic)

Introduction: Low birth weight is a significant public health problem worldwide, particularly in low-and-middle-income countries. This study aimed to investigate the epidemiology of low birth weight in the lake areas of Cotonou. Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study included 931 records of women who gave birth in 2022 in the Cotonou 1-4 health zone. Completed maternity records were included in this study, except for premature births and congenital malformations. Birth weight was the dependent variable. Sociodemographic, obstetrical, preventive care and child-related data were collected using a digitized form. These data were analyzed using SPSS software to determine the prevalence and factors associated with low birth weight using multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: The prevalence of low birth weight was 16.30%. Factors related to this prevalence were non-use of mosquito nets during pregnancy (OR = 2.72;CI: 1.275 - 5.805), twin pregnancy (OR = 9.97;CI: 3.869 - 25.696), previous abortion (OR = 1.61;CI: 1.034 - 2.515), low number of pregnancy (OR = 3.97;CI: 1.276 - 12.393), trimester of first antenatal visit (OR = 3.47;CI: 1.821 - 6.638) and birth size less than 45 cm (OR = 5.98;CI: 2.965 - 12.083). Conclusion: The prevalence obtained from this study justifies the need to support pregnant women in this health zone. It is, therefore, essential to strengthen communication and health promotion strategies for women before, during, and after pregnancy.
