Antioxidant Characteristics of Red Wines from Calchaquies Valleys in Salta

Objectives： We analyzed polyphenol and antioxidant capacity in red wines Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat and Syrah varieties from wineries Calchaquies Valleys, in Salta, Argentine. Methods： The total polyphenols was determined by UV absorption at 280 nm evaluating the D280 index. The antioxidant capacity was analyzed by absorbance measured at 520 nm and 420 nm and the color intensity and the hue was calculated by its summation by its relation. Key findings： The results presented indexes D280 （phenolic content） that ranged from 43.3 to 55.7. The antioxidant capacity is evaluate by the color intensity of red wines measuring absorbance values at 420 and 520 nm that ranged from 0.60 to 1.09. There is correlation between phenolic content and antioxidant capacity with a correlation coefficient of 0.974. Conclusions： The total polyphenol content in red wines is correlated with their antioxidant capacity. It is beneficial to health if the wine is consumed in low quantities. The Cabernet Sauvignon variety has more phenolic content than Malbec, Tannat and Syrah varieties.

In Mexico, owing to solar radiation conditions, there is great potential for PV （photovoltaic） systems. Besides, since 2007, the solar electricity interconnection agreement became official which allowed for an important growth of the photovoltaic industry. Due to the important development of the PV industry, there is a need for engineers trained to design, install, and evaluate PV systems The UAEMEX （autonomous university of the state of Mexico） offers a new bachelor degree of engineering program which dedicated to the development of sustainable energy systems. This kind of programs requires special equipment for experimentation and practice Specialists at UAEMEX also detected the need for a system to evaluate and demonstrate the application of PV modules, but they also found that most of the systems on the market are very expensive and unable to evaluate different arrangements. The goal of this paper is to present the design of a mobile system to evaluate PV modules and arrangements. This system is useful, not only for demonstration practices, but also for experimentation with different materials and types of PV panels. The design allows for two or four PV modules to be assembled in different positions and inclinations. The prototype is equipped with a data acquisition system that will be used to obtain the PV module performance curves. It will also be used to evaluate the atmospheric, interference and shadow effects on these modules. This prototype will be used to complement the practice learning of solar PV systems, but also to demonstrate the use of PV modules. The prototype is being design and constructed by a group of mechanical and electronic engineering students and this fact will be useful to meet the needs of basic science, math, and engineering teaching objectives in an integrated and hands-on way project. The aims of this work were to study the effect of two different plastic containers on asparagus growth and the effect of early applied 6-benzilaminepurine （BAP） on crown growth during the first two years after seed germination. Although there was not found a root restriction effect with the use of plastic containers, there were significant differences between plants grown in plastic seedbed or single pots which suggesting an unusual and unexpected asparagus autotoxicity. The results showed that crown fresh weight, total dry weight, relative growth ratio （RGRroot）, root：shoot ratio and photosynthetic shoot number increased in BAP-sprayed plants over the controls without treatment as a result of a change in photosynthate partitioning towards the root system. The BAP snravs seem to be a ~reater effect under conditions with favor autotoxicitv such as the seedbed than in single pot crown-grown.

In the present study, films and coatings for food applications based on a gum exudate from Brea tree （Cercidium praecox） were formulated and the influence of plasticizer content on their functional properties was evaluated. Brea gum is a renewable resource available in semi-desert areas, extracted by native people. Films were produced by casting method and characterized through water vapour permeability, mechanical （tensile strength and elongation at break）, morphological and optical properties. Glycerol was used as plasticizer. Brea gum films presented good visual aspect, transparency and amber colour. Microscopic observation showed a dense and homogeneous structure. Film wettability increased with glycerol content due to hydrophilic nature of the plasticizer. Solubility of films in water increased with temperature. Water sorption isotherms of films at 25 ~C showed that at high aw （above 0.50）, the film matrix swells altering its structure and properties. Water vapour permeability remained practically constant up to 20% of glycerol content and then increases linearly with the plasticizer. The addition of glycerol decreased the opacity and tensile strength. The best film properties were obtained at 20% of glycerol concentration.
