Effect of purine diet on prognosis of deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease

Uric acid (UA) is a naturally antioxidant that is strongly associated with the development and progression of Parkinson’s disease (Pd). The purine diet is an important exogenous pathway that modulates blood UA levels. deep brain stimulation (dBS) is an important tool for Pd treatment. This study aimed to explore the effects of preoperative purine diet on the prognosis of patients with Pd after dBS. 64 patients with Pd who underwent dBS were included in this study， and their clinical data， blood UA values， and daily purine intake. Patients were followed up for improvement 1 year after surgery. We found that patient higher purine intake was strongly associated with the rate of improvement after dBS and was a protective factor for patient prognosis. daily purine intake from meat and seafood was significantly higher in the responsive patients than in the less-responsive patients. Mediation analysis showed that UA mediated 78% of the effect of purine intake on motor symptom improvement after dBS. In summary， we observed that purine intake is strongly associated with the rate of improvement in motor symptoms after STN-dBS in patients with Pd. This study provides a reference for preoperative diet planning in patients with Parkinson’s disease undergoing dBS.

Bi2Te3-based materials have drawn much attention from the thermoelectric community due to their excellent thermoelectric performance near room ***,the stability of existing n-type Bi2（Te,Se）3materials is still low due to the evaporation energy of Se (37.70 kJ mol-1) being much lower than that of Te (52.55 kJ mol-1).The evaporated Se from the material causes problems in interconnects of the module while degrading the efficiency.

There is a certain failure rate in traditional glaucoma surgery because of the lack of depth information in microscope *** this work,we present a digital microscope-integrated optical coherence tomography(MIOCT)system and several custom-made OCT-compatible instruments for glaucoma *** ophthalmologists were asked to perform trabeculectomy and canaloplasty on live porcine eyes using the system and *** surgery,a subjective feedback survey about the user experience was *** experiment results showed that our system can help surgeons easily locate important tissue structures during *** custom-made instruments also solved the shadowing problem in OCT *** preferred to use the system in their future practice.

Transurethral prostate surgery in prostate cancer patients: A population-based comparative analysis of complication and mortality rates

Objective:Prostate cancer(PCa)patients might experience lower urinary tract symptoms as those diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).Some of them might be treated for their lower urinary tract symptoms instead of *** aimed to test the effect of PCa versus BPH on surgical outcomes after transurethral prostate surgery,namely complication and mortality ***:Within the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database(2011-2016),we identified patients who underwent transurethral resection of the prostate,photoselective vaporization,or laser *** were stratified according to postoperative diagnosis(PCa ***).Univariable and multivariable logistic regression models evaluated the predictors of perioperative morbidity and mortality.A formal test of interaction between diagnosis and surgical technique used was ***:Overall,34542 patients were *** all,2008(5.8%)had a diagnosis of *** multivariable logistic regression model failed to show statistically significant higher rates of postoperative complications in PCa patients(odds ratio:0.9,95%confidence interval:0.7-1.1;p=0.252).Moreover,similar rates of perioperative mortality(p=0.255),major acute cardiovascular events(p=0.581),transfusions(p=0.933),and length of stay of more than or equal to 30 days(p=0.174)were ***,all tests failed to show an interaction between post-operative diagnosis and surgical technique ***:Patients diagnosed with PCa do not experience higher perioperative morbidity or mortality after transurethral prostate surgery when compared to their BPH ***,the diagnosis seems to not influence surgical technique outcomes.
