AIM:To report the cytology results of 25-gauge transconjunctival(25G-TSV)diagnostic vitrectomy in cases suspicious for intraocular lymphoma(IOL),and compare the results to those reported in the ***:Clinical and cytopathological records of 18vitreous biopsy specimens obtained via 25G-TSV diagnostic vitrectomy in 12 patients suspicious for IOL were reviewed retrospectively.A review of the literature in regards to the diagnostic yields of vitreous specimens obtained via 25-gauge and 20-gauge diagnostic vitrectomy in suspected cases of IOL was ***:Eighteen eyes from 12 patients with clinical suspicion of IOL underwent diagnostic *** cytopathological investigations demonstrated IOL in 15eyes(83.3%).Vitreous analysis was non-diagnostic in 3eyes(16.7%).CONCLUSION:Twenty-five-gauge diagnostic vitrectomy yields adequate sample for cytological evaluation of the vitreous in cases suspicious for *** diagnostic results of the 25G-TSV in the current study are superior to those reported for 20-gauge vitrectomy but equivalent to those reported for 25G-TSV in the published literature.

AIM：To review indications and corneal tissue use for penetrating and lamellar surgery between 2002 and 2011.·METHODS：The surgical reports of corneal grafts performed during 2002-2011,using tissues supplied by the eye bank of piedmont（Italy）,were reviewed *** demographic data,date of intervention,indication for surgery,and surgical technique used were *** techniques included penetrating keratoplasty（PK）,deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty（DALK）and endothelial keratoplasty（EK）.The2test was used to compare the distribution of indications and types of surgical technique used,for corneal grafts done during 2002-2006 versus those done during 2007-2011.·RESULTS：The number of corneal grafts increased by30.7%from 2002-2006 to 2007-2011（from 1567 to 2048）.Comparing the two periods,both main indications and surgical techniques changed *** 2007-2011,the proportion of interventions for aphakic/pseudophakic bollous keratopathy（from 16.8%to 21.3%）,graft failure（from 16.4%to 19.1%）and Fuchs endothelial dystrophy（from 12.8%to 16.7%）all increased significantly（〈0.05）,while those for keratoconus decreased significantly（from35.6%to 27.3%;〈0.001）.In 2007-2011,the proportion of PK decreased significantly（from 92.4%to 57.2%;〈0.001）while that of EK and DALK went from 0.4%to48 30.2%（〈0.001）and from 7.2%to 12.6%（〈0.001）respectively.·CONCLUSION：During 2002-2011 the number of interventions increased significantly for corneal endothelial diseases and graft *** growing demand for interventions for these diseases corresponded to the widespread adoption of EK *** use of DALK also increased,but more moderately than EK procedures.

AIM:To describe the design and clinical application of a corneal donor dehydrator which can quickly dehydrate corneas and keep its original ***:The corneal donor material is placed on stainless steel beads with different diameters in the dehydrating box to make the cornea the same shape as the steel ***,the cornea is placed inside the dehydrater for rapid dehydrating using the internal cleaning and ventilation *** 83 eyes underwent deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty(DALK)using corneal donor tissue preserved with corneal dehydrater,and 60 patients(60 eyes)received DALK by the same surgeon using corneal donor tissue preserved with glycerol were included in the control *** best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),the thickness and transparency of the corneal buttons were ***:After the completion of dehydrating,all the donor corneas maintained a normal shape without any shrinkage or distortion,and the average intraoperative rehydration time was 43.3±12.1 s during *** mean BCVA of the dehydrater group was 0.30±0.18 at 1 wk and 0.32±0.16 at 1 mo,which were statistically better than that of the control group(P<0.001).The score of corneal buttons transparency were lower than that of the control group with statistical difference(P<0.001).The thickness of corneal buttons at 1 wk and at 1 mo in the dehydrater group was significantly better than that of the control group respectively(P<0.001).One week after operation,no corneal button turbidity or edema was observed in both ***:The dehydrater can quickly dehydrate the corneal material in a clean and airtight environment and maintain the original shape of the corneal donor during the dehydrating *** dehydrater is recommended for long-term high-quality preservation in areas where corneal materials cannot be used within a reasonable time period.

Objective:This study aimed to investigate the potential of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell(hucMSC)-derived exosomes(hucMSC-Exos)in inhibiting hypoxia-induced cell hyper proliferation and overexpression of vascular endothelial growth factor A(VEGF-A)in immature human fetal retinal microvascular endothelial cells(hfRMECs).Methods:Exosomes were isolated from hucMSCs using cryogenic ultracentrifugation and characterized through various techniques,including transmission electron microscopy,nanoparticle tracking analysis,bicinchoninic acid assays,and western *** hfRMECs were identified using von Willebrand factor(vWF)co-staining and divided into four groups:a control group cultured under normoxic condition,a hypoxic model group,a hypoxic group treated with low-concentration hucMSC-Exos(75μg/mL)and a hypoxic group treated with high-concentration hucMSC-Exos(100μg/mL).Cell viability and proliferation were assessed using Cell Counting Kit-8(CCK-8)assay and EdU(5-ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine)assay *** levels of VEGF-A were evaluated using RT-PCR,western blotting and ***:Hypoxia significantly increased hfRMECs’viability and proliferation by upregulating VEGF-A *** administration of hucMSC-Exos effectively reversed this response,with the high-concentration group exhibiting greater efficacy compared to the lowconcentration ***:In conclusion,hucMSC-Exos can dose-dependently inhibit hypoxia-induced hyperproliferation and VEGF-A overexpression in immature fetal retinal microvascular endothelial cells.

Corneal diseases are currently the second main cause of blindness in *** most of the corneal blindness could be treated by corneal transplantation,only about 10 000 operations were carried out each year owing to the severe shortage of corneal donors and limited eye bank programs.A feasible cornea donation program was established through the organization of the Red Cross,and in situ corneal removal techniques were developed to avoid conflicts with Chinese traditions of keeping the deceased *** number of donated corneas,which had a safe and secure quality,increased significantly year by year.

BACKGROUND Known ocular manifestations of Alport syndrome include features such as anterior lenticonus and fleck retinopathy. Reports of keratoconus in such patients are limited.
