Although the health benefits of swimming are well-documented, health effects such as asthma and bladder cancer are linked to disinfection by-products(DBPs) in pool water. DBPs are formed from the reaction of disinfectants such as chlorine(Cl) or bromine(Br) with organics in the water. Our previous study(Daiber et al., Environ. sci. Technol. 50, 6652;2016) found correlations between the concentrations of classes of DBPs and the mutagenic potencies of waters from chlorinated or brominated swimming pools and spas. We extended this study by identifying significantly different concentrations of 21 individual DBPs in brominated or chlorinated pool and spa waters as well as identifying which DBPs and additional DBP classes were most associated with the mutagenicity of these waters. using data from our previous study, we found that among 21 DBPs analyzed in 21 pool and spa waters, the concentration of bromoacetic acid was significantly higher in Brwaters versus Cl-waters, whereas the concentration of trichloroacetic acid was significantly higher in Cl-waters. Five Br-DBPs(tribromomethane, dibromochloroacetic acid, dibromoacetonitrile, bromoacetic acid, and tribromoacetic acid) had significantly higher concentrations in Br-spa versus Cl-spa waters. Cl-pools had significantly higher concentrations of ClDBPs(trichloroacetaldehyde, trichloromethane, dichloroacetic acid, and chloroacetic acid), whereas Br-pools had significantly higher concentrations of Br-DBPs(tribromomethane, dibromoacetic acid, dibromoacetonitrile, and tribromoacetic acid). The concentrations of the sum of all 4 trihalomethanes, all 11 Br-DBPs, and all 5 nitrogen-containing DBPs were each significantly higher in brominated than in chlorinated pools and spas. The 8 Br-DBPs were the only DBPs whose individual concentrations were significantly correlated with the mutagenic potencies of the pool and spa waters. Environmental fate and ecological impacts of fipronil and its transformation products(FIPs)in aquatic environment have caused worldwide attention,however,the influence of dissolved organic carbon(DOC)on multimedia distribution,bioavailability,and toxicity of FIPs in field waterways was largely ***,we collected 11 companion water and sediment samples along a lotic stream in Guangzhou.s.uth *** were ubiquitous with total water concentrations ranging from 1.22 to 43.2 ng/L(14.8±12.9 ng/L)and fipronil sulfone was predominant in both water and *** than 70%of FIPs in aqueous phase were bound to DOC and the KDOC valu.s.of FIPs were approximately 1–2 orders of magnitude higher than K_(d-s)/K_(OC),emphasizing the significance of DOC in phase partitioning and transport of FIPs in aquatic *** and sediment samples were more toxic to Chironomus dilutus than Hyallela azteca,and FIPs(especially fipronil sulfone)pronouncedly contributed toxicity to *** units(Tu)based on freely dissolved concentrations in water determined by solid phase microextraction significantly improved toxicity estimation of FIPs to the invertebrates compared to Tus based on aqueous *** present study highlights the significance of DOC association on fate and ecological risk of hydrophobic insecticides in lotic ecosystem.

Melon(*** L.)is an economically important vegetable crop cultivated *** melon collection in the *** Plant Germplasm system(NPGs)is a valuable resource to conserve natural genetic diversity and provide novel traits for melon *** we use the genotyping-by-sequencing(GBs)technology to characterize 2083 melon accessions in the NPGs collected from major melon production areas as well as regions where primitive melons *** structure and genetic diversity analyses suggested that *** *** was firstly introduced from the centers of origin,Indian and Pakistan,to Central and West Asia,and then brought to Europe and *** *** from East Asia was likely derived from *** *** in India and Pakistan and displayed a distinct genetic background compared to the rest of *** accessions from other geographic *** developed a core collection of 383 accessions capturing more than 98%of genetic variation in the germplasm,providing a publicly accessible collection for future research and genomics-assisted breeding of ***-five morphological characters investigated in the core collection indicated high variability of these characters across accessions in the ***-wide association studies using the core collection panel identified potentially associated genome regions related to fruit quality and other horticultural *** study provides insights into melon origin and domestication,and the constructed core collection and identified genome loci potentially associated with important traits provide valuable resources for future melon research and breeding.
