Background: Investigating population ecology of urban bird species,particularly the invasive and expending spe?cies,is the key for the success of urban management and planning ***: Populations of two Columbidae species,the Woodpigeon(Columba palumbus) and the Eurasian Collared Dove(Streptopelia decaocto),were monitored from 1992 to 2010 in the Algiers Sahel,the Mitidja Plain and surround?ing areas(Northern Algeria).Monitoring of species densities was performed by the mapping?plot *** foraging flight routes of Woodpigeon and the distribution of Eurasian Collared Dove were assessed by systematic ***: The number of counted birds was statistically constant at first years of the survey,and then increased sig?nificantly,beginning from low numbers,their densities accelerated sharply between 2001 and 2006,then reached to an equilibrium *** significant increase in Woodpigeon's population could be explained by the reduced hunt?ing pressure and by species adaptation to new food resources provided by nearby ***,monitoring of flight directions of the species revealed the use of agricultural landscapes and habitats,which is a good indicator explaining adaptation and trophic niche of the *** occurrence of the Eurasian Collared Dove in Algiers began in *** density experienced a rapid increase with similar trend pattern as that of *** distributional range is confined mainly in suburban environments of the Mitidja ***: The modifications of habitats,urbanization increase and the lessening of hunting in the Mitidja Plain facilitated the rapid expansion of the Eurasian Collared Dove and Woodpigeon as well contributed to the increase in their numbers over time.

Plectranthus amboinicus essential oil(PAEO)has the potential to be used by the food industry as a natural antimicrobial *** study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of PAEO in vitro against pathogenic bacteria contaminating food and its potential for action when added to intentionally contaminated beef *** composition was determined by GC-MS and GC-FID,and thymol(45.64%)was the main compound present in the *** minimum inhibitory(MIC)and minimum bactericidal(MBC)concentration of the PAEO was evaluated against five pathogenic bacteria(Staphylococcus aureus,Listeria monocytogenes,Escherichia coli,Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella Typhimurium).The MIC of PAEO was the concentration ranges between 0.25 and 2 mg mL^(-1),and the MBC ranged from 1 to 4 mg mL^(-1).The anti-adhesion and removal of adhered cell assays indicated significant reductions(P<0.05)even at concentrations 8x lower than the MIC of *** patties samples were prepared with PAEO concentrations at MIC(2 mg mL^(-1))and sub-MIC(1 mg mL^(-1)).*** and *** were inoculated individually into the beef *** reductions were observed with a greater reduction in the 12th day of storage for ***(1.52 log CFU.g^(-1))and ***(0.93 log CFU.g^(-1))for beef patties with the MIC of *** has the potential to be applied in meat ***,the application and interactions of the oil in the food matrix need to be better elucidated.

Response of bedload transport, submarine topography, and dune internal structures to typhoon processes off Dongfang coast in the Beibu Gulf

Bedload sediment transport was estimated by the SEDTRANS96 model based on three-day hydrodynamics data obtained off the Dongfang coast in the Beibu Gulf during Typhoon Ketsana in September 2009. Bed- forms on the sea floor off the Dongfang coast and internal structures of a typical dune were interpreted to evaluate storm influences on individual dunes and the dune field. Results indicated that flow forcings and related bedload transport were both strengthened significantly due to Typhoon Ketsana. The measurements and modeling results, which mainly included three different stages, presented noticeable phasic variation. The three stages were dominated by tidal current （Period I）, tidal current combined with wind-induced waves （Period II）, and swells combined with tidal current and seaward flows （Period III）. This phasic varia- tion could be a common trait of hydrodynamics due to typhoons moving westwardly to the south of Hainan Island and Beibu Gulf in South China Sea. Results indicated that the maximum bedioad transport rate for every burst in Period III was almost 100 times larger than that in Period I and was ten times larger than that in Period II. However, the short-term increase in bedload transport induced by storms like Ketsana did not change the long-term evolution of dune morphology. Evidence was given by the internal structures of a typical dune, which revealed renewed modification under subsequent moderate conditions after storm ero- sion. Instead, storms may influence at different scales and regional allocation of sand dunes in some large areas because changes of the sea floor in large scales can hardly be recovered. More surveys during and after storm passage are also needed to document the level of positive contribution to forward migration.

Exploration of particle technology in fine bubble characterization

Fine bubble technology has been applied in many fields, including semiconductor processing, waste water treatment, and agricultural development. Fine bubble technology has the advantages of being environ-mentally benign, and ease of production and use when compared with other processes that involve chemicals or biological agents. However, the mechanisms of fine bubble applications in many aspects still require exploration. The characterization of fine bubbles is one of the essential issues for better understanding the technology. This article reviews modern particle characterization technologies, espe-cially those that can be used to characterize fine bubbles, and briefly reports on some applications of fine bubbles.

Self-transforming stainless-steel into the next generation anode material for lithium ion batteries

Here,an extremely cost-effective and simple method is proposed in order to morphologically selftransform stain less steel from a completely inactive material to a fully operati onal,nanowire-structured,3D anode material for lithium ion *** reagentless process of a single heating step of the plain stainless steel in a partially reduci ng atmosphere,converts the stain less steel into an active anode via metal-selective oxidation,creating vast spinel-structured nanowires directly from the electrochemically in active *** simple process allows the complete utilizati on of the 3D mesh structure as the electrochemically-active spinel nanowires greatly enhance the active surface *** novel material and architecture exhibits high capacities(-1000 mAh/g after-400 cycles),long cycle life(>1100 cycles)and fast rate performance(>2C).Simple modulation of the substrate can result in very high areal and volumetric ***,areal capacities greater than 10 mAh/cm^(2) and volumetric capacities greater than 1400 mAh/cm^(3) can be *** the proposed method,the potential reduction in cost from the use of battery-grade graphite is at least an order of magnitude,with considerable better results achieved in terms of capacity and intrinsic structural benefits of the substrate,which include direct contact of the active material with the current collector,lack of delamination and binder-free *** work provides a new paradigm and a key step in the long route to replace the commercial graphite anode as the next-geneation anode material.

Atmospheric Corrosion of Copper Exposed in a Simulated Coastal-Industrial Atmosphere

The corrosion behavior of copper exposed in a simulated coastal-industrial atmosphere has been investigated using weight loss measurement, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, potentiodynamic polarization and in-situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy（EIS） with micro-distance *** results show that corrosion kinetics follows the empirical equation D = Atn. The main corrosion products are composed of Cu_2O, Cu_2Cl（OH）_3 and Cu_4Cl_2（OH）_6. A two-layer structure comprising a loose outer layer and a compact inner layer forms the corrosion products during corrosion process. SO_2 has been found to promote the formation of Cu_4Cl_2（OH）_6.

Nano-scale gap filling and mechanism of deposit-etch-deposit process for phase-change material

Ge2Sb2Te5 gap filling is one of the key processes for phase-change random access memory manufacture. Physical vapor deposition is the mainstream method of Ge2Sb2Te5 film deposition due to its advantages of film quality, purity, and accurate composition control. However,the conventional physical vapor deposition process cannot meet the gap- filling requirement with the critical device dimension scaling down to 90 nm or below. In this study, we find that the deposit-etch-deposit process shows better gap-filling capability and scalability than the single-step deposition process, especially at the nano-scale critical dimension. The gap-filling mechanism of the deposit-etch-deposit process was briefly discussed. We also find that re-deposition of phase-change material from via the sidewall to via the bottom by argon ion bombardment during the etch step was a key ingredient for the final good gap filling. We achieve void-free gap filling of phase-change material on the 45-nm via the two-cycle deposit-etch-deposit process. We gain a rather comprehensive insight into the mechanism of deposit-etch-deposit process and propose a potential gap-filling solution for over 45-nm technology nodes for phase-change random access memory.

A novel 2-T structure memory device using a Si nanodot for embedded application

Performance and reliability ofa 2 transistor Si nanocrystal nonvolatile memory （NVM） are investigated. A good performance of the memory cell has been achieved, including a fast program/erase （P/E） speed under low voltages, an excellent data retention （maintaining for 10 years） and good endurance with a less threshold voltage shift of less than 10% after 104 P/E cycles. The data show that the device has strong potential for future embedded NVM applications.

Fluids double-fracturing genetic mechanism and mineralization of gold-copper of the breccia pipe at Qibaoshan in Shandong Province

After studying the characteristics and special texture of the fluidogenous tectonics, mineral assemblage in the cemented vein between breccia and their special distribution, and stress analyzing the joint structures in and around the breccia pipe, it is found that the observed phenomena are caused by a new tectonic dynamic mechanics of fluid——double-fracturing caused bytemperature and pressure of fluids and pulsating expansion. Under the actions of thermal stress and the pressure of fluids, thermal cracks and joints that developed along parts of the thermal cracks formed systematically in the rocks. Under these conditions, up-arching fracture zones that pulsatively expanded upward and cylindrical pressing breccia body were formed. Rocks at the peak of the pyramidal fractures zone break down instantly. Where the difference between pressure of fluids and the overburden pressure exceeded greatly the competence of the rocks, fluid junctions occurred and the velocity of the fluid flow increased as a result. Explosive body expanded upward in the shape of an inverse cone, cone-like explosive breccia body and cover-like shattering breccia body located on the upper part of the breccia pipe were ultimately formed. Gold-rich fluids were enriched and mineralized near the boiling surface in the lower part of the inverse cone-like explosive breccia body where temperature and pressure decreased rapidly, while copper-rich fluids were enriched and mineralized in the junction area where temperature and pressure were relatively high.

Prevention from Soft Errors via Architecture Elasticity

Due to the decreasing threshold voltages, shrinking feature size, as well as the exponential growth of on-chip transistors, modern processors are increasingly vulnerable to soft errors. However, traditional mechanisms of soft error mitigation take actions to deal with soft errors only after they have been detected. Instead of the passive responses, this paper proposes a novel mechanism which proactively prevents from the occurrence of soft errors via architecture elasticity. In the light of a predictive model, we adapt the processor architectures h01istically and dynamically. The predictive model provides the ability to quickly and accurately predict the simulation target across different program execution phases on any architecture configurations by leveraging an artificial neural network model. Experimental results on SPEC CPU 2000 benchmarks show that our method inherently reduces the soft error rate by 33.2% and improves the energy efficiency by 18.3% as compared with the static configuration processor.
