The 21st century has so far proven to provide a rough ride from time to time:it all started with the dot-com bubble bursting in the spring of the year 2000,continued after a period of economic recovery with the financial crisis in 2008,fueled by cheap credit and lax lending standards that triggered a housing bubble and resulted in banks collapsing and many governments around the globe seeking to stabilize the financial economy at all cost.

Pd/ag/α-Al2O3 composite membranes were prepared by sequential electroless plating technique. The prepared membranes were characterized by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy techniques （ICP-AES）. Effects of annealing time, ag content, and air treatment on the hydrogen permeation flux and morphology of the alloys were investigated. The results of the investigation showed that the prepared type of tube had a good potential as substrate for membrane preparation. In addition, a uniform defect-free alloy was prepared by annealing at 550 ℃ in H2 atmosphere. The permeation results showed an increase in H2 permeation flux by increasing the ag content and the annealing time. In addition, the air treatment of the prepared membranes at 400 ℃ for 1 h changed the morphology of the alloy and substantially enhanced the hydrogen flux.

For accurately forecasting the liquid steel temperature in ladle furnace （LF）, a novel temperature predic tion model based on optimally pruned Bagging combined with modified extreme learning machine （ELM） is pro posed. By analyzing the mechanism of LF thermal system, a thermal model with partial linear structure is obtained. Subsequently, modified ELM, named as partial linear extreme learning machine （PLELM）, is developed to estimate the unknown coefficients and undefined function of the thermal model. Finally, a pruning Bagging method is pro- posed to establish the aggregated prediction model for the sake of overcoming the limitation of individual predictor and further improving the prediction performance. In the pruning procedure, AdaBoost is adopted to modify the ag- gregation order of the original Bagging ensembles, and a novel early stopping rule is designed to terminate the aggre- gation earlier. As a result, an optimal pruned Bagging ensemble is achieved, which is able to retain Bagging＇s ro- bustness against highly influential points, reduce the storage needs as well as speed up the computing time. The pro- posed prediction model is examined by practical data, and comparisons with other methods demonstrate that the new ensemble predictor can improve prediction accuracy, and is usually consisted compactly.

In this paper, recovery of silver from anode slime of Sarcheshmeh copper complex in lran and subsequent synthesis of silver nanoparticles from leaching solution is investigated. Sarcheshmeh anode slime is mainly consisted ofCu, ag, Pb and Se. Amount of ag in the considered anode slime was 5.4% （by weight）. The goal was to recover as much as possible ag from anode slime at atmospheric pressure to synthesize ag nanoparticles. Therefore, acid leaching was used for this purpose. The anode slime was leached with sulfuric and nitric acid from room to 90 ~C at different acid concentrations and the run which yielded the most recovery of ag was selected for ag nanoparticles synthesis. At this condition, Cu, Pb and Se are lea- ched as well as ag. To separate ag from leach solution HCI was added and silver was precipitated as agCl which were then dissolved by ammonia solution. The ag nanoparticles are synthesized from this solution by chemical reduction method by aid of sodium borohydride in the presence of PVP and PEG as stabilizers. The synthesized ag nanoparticles showed a peak of 394 nm in UV-vis spectrum and TEM images showed a rather uniform ag nanoparticles of 12 nm.

An experimental verification is reported on the early predicting index of agglomeration in bubbling fluidized bed. Coarse quartz sand, which has the same density but larger diameter than the bed material, was used to simulate the initial agglomerated particle. Wigner distribution was used to analyze the pressure fuctuation of the tested bed, and the average amplitude of local domain frequency （LDF） and local peak weighted average frequency （LPWA） under different operating conditions were measured and compared. The results showed that the LDF is sensitive to the agglomeration phenomena and had quick response to the incipient agglomeration in fluidized beds. It can be concluded from the results that these two parameters could be taken as the characteristic indexes to the agglomeration in fuidized beds.

Nucleopolyhedrovirus (NPV) has become an integral part of integrated pest management (IPM) in many Australian agricultural and horticultural crops. This is the culmination of years of work conducted by researchers at the Queensland Department of Primary industries and Fisheries (QDPI&F) and ag Biotech Australia Pty Ltd. In the early 1970’s researchers at QDPI&F identified and isolated a virus in Helicoverpa armigera populations in the field. This NPV was extensively studied and shown to be highly specific to Helicoverpa and Heliothis species. Further work showed that when used appropriately the virus could be used effectively to manage these insects in crops such as sorghum, cotton, chickpea and sweet corn. A similar virus was first commercially produced in the USA in the 1970’s. This product, Elcar?, was introduced into Australia in the late 1970’s by Shell Chemicals with limited success. A major factor contributing to the poor adoption of Elcar was the concurrent enormous success of the synthetic pyrethroids. The importance of integrated pest management was probably also not widely accepted at that time. Gradual development of insect resistance to synthetic pyrethroids and other synthetic insecticides in Australia and the increased awareness of the importance of IPM meant that researchers once again turned their attentions to environmentally friendly pest management tools such NPV and beneficial insects. In the 1990’s a company called Rhone-Poulenc registered an NPV for use in Australian sorghum, chickpea and cotton. This product, Gemstar?, was imported from the USA. In 2000 ag Biotech Australia established an in-vivo production facility in Australia to produce commercial volumes of a product similar to the imported product. This product was branded, ViVUS?, and was first registered and sold commercially in Australia in 2003. Reproductive stage frost poses a major constraint for wheat production in countries such as ***,little progress has been made in identifying key genes to overcome the *** the present study,a severe frost event hit two large-scale field trials consisting of six doubled haploid(DH)wheat populations at reproductive stage(young microspore stage)in Western Australia,leading to the identification of 30 robust frost QTL on 17 *** major 18 QTL with the phenotype variation over 9.5%were located on 13 chromosomes including 2 A,2 B,2 D,3 A,4 A,4 B,4 D,5 A,5 D,6 D,7 A,7 B and7 *** frost QTL were closely linked to the QTL of anthesis,maturity,Zadok stages as well as linked to anthesis related *** of those,six QTL were repetitively detected on the homologous regions on 2 B,4 B,4 D,5 A,5 D,7 A in more than two *** showed that the frost damage is associated with alleles of Vrn-A1 a,Vrn-D1 a,Rht-B1 b,Rht-D1 b,and the high copy number of ***,anthesis QTL and anthesis related genes of Vrn-B1 a and Ta FT3-1 B on chromosomes 5 B and 1 B did not lead to frost damage,indicating that these early-flowering phenotype related genes are compatible with frost tolerance and thus can be utilised in *** results also indicate that wild-type alleles Rht-B1 a and Rht-D1 a can be used when breeding for frost-tolerant varieties without delaying flowering time.
