In the present investigation, an attempt is made to examine the interdependencies among the operating parameters and their interactional effect on the separation performance of a water-only cyclone for treating ferruginous chromite fines. Statistically designed experiments are carried out, and empirical models are developed for the critical response parameters, i,e., yield(%) to underflow, grade(%Cr_2O_3 and%SiO_2)and Cr:Fe ratio of the underflow stream. Further, using these empirical models, operating regime of the process parameters is optimized to obtain the peak performance of water-only cyclone. Also, efforts are made to validate the prediction models with the experimental results.

Desorption of total saturated fractions(i.e. SAT, defined for this study as the summation of the concentrations of the saturated hydrocarbon from n-C10 to n-C26) and polycyclic aromatic fractions(i.e. PAH, defined as the summation of the concentrations of all polycyclic aromatic fractions including the 16 EPA priority PAH) in two types of soils subjected to the changes of p H and salinity and different bio-surfactant concentrations were investigated. In general, compared with the experiments without bio-surfactant addition, adding rhamnolipid to crude oil-water systems at concentrations above its critical micelle concentration(CMC) values benefits SAT and PAH desorption. The results indicate that the change of p H could have distinct effects on rhamnolipid performance concerning its own micelle structure and soil properties. For loam soil, the adsorption of non-aqueous phase liquid(NAPL) and rhamnolipid would be the principle limiting factors during the NAPL removal procedure. For sand soil, less amount of rhamnolipid is adsorbed onto soil. Thus, with the increase of salinity, the solubilization and desorption of rhamnolipid solution are more significant. In summary, the p H and salt sensitivity of the bio-surfactant will vary according to the specific structure of the surfactant characteristics and soil properties.

The Middle Cretaceous Mishrif Formation of the Cenomanian-Turonian age is an important Middle Eastern *** studies have shown that carbonates in the Mishrif Formation are affected by karstification and are concentrated at the top of the ***,there is a lack of systematic research on the effects of karstification on the formation’s reservoir *** on core samples,scanning electron microscopy of thin sections,and geochemical analysis of C,O,and Sr isotopes from wells in the Missan Oil Fields,unconformity was identified at the top of the B21 subzone of the Mishrif *** and cast-thin-section observations indicate that there is a significant lithological difference above and below the unconformity,and dissolution pores and voids are well-developed beneath *** silt fills the intragranular pores and geopetal fabric is developed inside some mouldic pores beneath the unconformity *** isotopic values of ^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr(0.707270-0.707722)and δ^(18)O(−5.94‰—−2.32‰)suggest that the top of the B21 subzone of the Mishrif Formation has been severely affected by syngenetic *** is the key to high-quality reservoir formation and the reservoir’s oil-bearing *** study will inform oil and gas exploration in the Missan Oil Fields and in other areas with similar reservoir characteristics.

In the present study,Ti6A14V spherical powders were prepared by supreme-speed plasma rotating electrode process and the particle size fit log-normal *** average diameter of the powders was successfully determined by a model developed in this work,suggesting that the particle size distribution is mainly affected by the rotating *** log-normal distribution factor of the particle size distribution maintains stable as the rotating speed ω *** particle size distribution indicates that the main atomization mode of Ti6Al4V under supreme-speed plasma rotating electrode process is of the characteristics of direct drop *** mechanical properties of the samples prepared by selective laser melting of Ti6A14V powders were characterized,indicating that such Ti6Al4V samples with isotropy structure exhibit high yield strength and good ductility.

Follow the Leader:Preference for Specific Amino Acids Directly Following the Initial Methionine in Proteins of Different Organisms

It is well established that the vast majority of proteins of all taxonomical groups and species are initiated by an AUG codon, translated into the amino acid methionine （Met）. Many attempts were made to evaluate the importance of the sequences surrounding the initiation codon, mostly focusing on the RNA sequence. However, the role and importance of the amino acids following the initiating Met residue were rarely investigated, mostly in bacteria and fungi. Herein, we computationally examined the protein sequences of all major taxonomical groups represented in the Swiss-Prot database, and evaluated the preference of each group to specific amino acids at the positions directly following the initial Met. The results indicate that there is a species-specific preference for the second amino acid of the majority of protein sequences. Interestingly, the preference for a certain amino acid at the second position changes throughout evolution from lysine in prokaryotes, through serine in lower eukaryotes, to alanine in higher plants and animals.

This study deals with the optimization of direct current（DC） sputtered aluminum-doped zinc oxide （AZO） thin films and their incorporation into a-Si：H/μc-Si：H tandem junction thin film solar cells aiming for high conversion *** and optical properties of AZO films,***,carrier density,resistivity, and transmittance,were comprehensively characterized and analyzed by varying sputtering deposition conditions, including chamber pressure,substrate temperature,and sputtering *** correlations between sputtering processes and AZO thin film properties were first ***,the AZO films were textured by diluted hydrochloric acid wet *** optimization of deposition and texturing processes,AZO films yield excellent electrical and optical properties with a high transmittance above 81%over the 380-1100 nm wavelength range,lowsheet resistance of 11Ω/□and high haze ratio of 41.3%.In preliminary experiments,the AZO films were applied to a-Si：H/μc-Si：H tandem thin film solar cells as front contact electrodes,resulting in an initial conversion efficiency of 12.5%with good current matching between subcells.

The electrochemical degradation of reed pulp black liquor containing lignin pretreated by acidification method was investigated using a three-dimensional electrode reactor. Using activated carbon as particle electrode, the effects of p H value, reaction temperature, electrolysis time and current on residual concentration of total organic carbon(TOC) were discussed in detail. The optimal conditions were obtained: pH 2.5, influent flow rate of 200 mL/min, 25 °C, 300 mA and 2h of electrolysis time, and the removal efficiency of TOC maintains at 35.57 %. The results of the electrochemical method indicate that ·OH radicals are produced in activated carbon anode in the electrolysis process and then adsorbed on the activated carbon surface. Microcell consists of ·OH radicals and the absorbed lignin. With the microcell reaction, the lignin is degraded, while the anodic polarized curve illustrates that the lignin is obviously oxidized in the anode. The contributions of direct and indirect electrolyses to the TOC removal ratio are about 50%, respectively.

Stability design of submarine pipelines is a very important procedure in submarine pipeline engineering design. The calculation of hydrodynamic forces caused by waves and currents acting on marine pipelines is an essential step in pipeline design for stability. The hydrodynamic forces-induced instabilities of submarine pipelines should be regarded as a wave/ current-pipeline-seabed interaction problem. This paper presents a review on hydrodynamic forces and stability research of submarine pipelines under waves and currents. The representative progress including the improved design method and guideline has been made for the marine pipelines engineering design through experimental investigations, numerical simu- lations and analytical models. Finally, further studies on this issue are suggested.

Analysis of working behavior of Jinping-I Arch Dam during initial impoundment

To study the stress, deformation, and seepage pressure during the initial impoundment of the Jinping-I Arch Dam, monitoring analysis and numerical calculation were used in a dam behavior analysis that focused on the working behavior of the dam during the late period of the initial impoundment up to the end of November 2014. The numerical calculation was performed based on feedback analysis of the deformation and stress of the arch dam through inversion of the elastic moduli(E) of the dam body and foundation, using a three-dimensional finite element model for the linear elastic material of the arch dam. The main monitoring indices presented insignificant changes in the late period of the initial impoundment, and the results of feedback analysis were consistent with monitoring results. Analysis results also show that the deformations of the dam body and dam foundation were within the design range; the dam stress distributions were normal, with values lower than the design control criteria; and the seepage flows through the dam body and dam foundation were lower than the design drainage capacity of the deep-well pump house, demonstrating that the Jinping-I Arch Dam was in good working condition, and the initial impoundment had been successfully completed. The results of the working behavior analysis of the Jinping-I hydropower project during the initial impoundment can provide references for safe operation of similar projects.
