Cognitive function of older adults is influenced by several factors such as age,sex,education,and physical activity so that it can impact the decrease in progressive cognitive function.It is necessary to implement cognitive training in old people’s care to prevent or delay the onset of age-related cognitive decline.Brain gym is a series of simple motion exercises and is an alternative therapy that stimulates the brain.This study aims to evaluate the effect of brain gym as a cognitive training intervention on global cognitive functioning of institutionalized older population.The study is a non-randomized quasi-experimental one using pre-and post-test control group design.The participants of the study were 65 years old or older who had been part of gerontological centers from a local community.They were divided into two groups:control and intervention,each one with 15 people.Mini-Mental State Examination was applied to the sample before and after the cognitive training.The brain gym training consists of bi-weekly group meeting for 12 weeks,lasting 50 min each.The treated group had a significantly better global cognitive function.Recalling(memory),orientation and language skills were the domains with the most significant changes(pder people lease type your abstract here.Abstract of a research paper is typically 200 to 400 words in length,and 150 to 300 words for a review paper.Abstract shall be running continuously(not structured)and shall not include reference citations.Abbreviations that appear only once in the abstract should be defined in full.If abbreviations appear more than once,the full definitions should be provided first before they can be used elsewhere.

Influence of parameters on the microstructure of a duplex stainless steel joint welded by a GMAW welding process

Duplex stainless steels(DSSs) are widely used in industry for their desirable properties. Any fusion welding technique modifies the microstructure and, consequently, the properties of the material. This paper presents a parametric study of the variables that determine the energy contribution(current, voltage and welding speed) and the structural modifications produced during gas metal arc welding. The analysis comprises metallographic study,phase balance, dimensioning of the weld beads and tensile and hardness tests. The influence of the variables studied on the thermal cycles obtained(temperatures reached and cooling rate) was determined by using a finite element model. The results showed that, in addition to the indicated parameters, the parameter power transfer per volume(W/m3) and the geometry in the bead must be controlled due to their influence on the heat flow distribution and phase balance.

Emerging patterns in the construction of Sejima’s,Sanaa’s and Nishizawa’s domestic spaces,from 1987 to 2010

Sejima and Nishizawa have developed their work without explicitly referencing a theoretical discourse.However,they have stated that their housing projects describe their"architectural biography."This study presents the hypothesis that systermic theories had infu-enced their housing projects at a spatial and constructive Level.With the aim of testing it,the research produces four lines of results.Firstly,we observe that the word system is prominently current in a signifcant sample of their published texts.We describe how architects like Tomi-naga,Ito,Taki,and Shinohara,who infuenced Sejima when she was still a student,discussed this concept inspired by Christopher Alexander's texts.The second line brings together all the couple's single-family housing projects published between 1987 and 2010 for the first time in a single document,as well as an original graphic-constructive reconstruction of the most outstanding ones.Thirdly,we unveil the emergence of four constructive patterns by applying these theories to the graphic material developed.Finally,we summarize the results in dia-grams,showing the frequency,intensity,and continuity of the identified patterns in the four phases throughout the studied period.Verifying the hypothesis facilitates further research relate their domestic work and their other types of projects.

Revisiting the analytical solutions for ultimate bearing capacity of pile embedded in rocks

This paper investigates the validity and shortcomings of the existing analytical solution for the ultimate bearing capacity of a pile embedded in a rock mass using the modified HoekeBrown failure criterion.Although this criterion is considered a reference value for empirical and numerical calculations,some limitations of its basic simplifications have not been clarified yet.This research compares the analytical results obtained from the novel discontinuity layout optimization(DLO)method and the numerical solutions from the finite difference method(FDM).The limitations of the analytical solution are considered by comparing different DLO failure modes,thus allowing for the first time a critical evaluation of its scope and conditioning for implementation.Errors of up to 40%in the bearing capacity and unrealistic failure modes are the main issues in the analytical solution.The main aspects of the DLO method are also analyzed with an emphasis on the linearization of the rock failure criterion and the accuracy resulting from the discretization size.The analysis demonstrates DLO as a very efficient and accurate tool to address the pile tip bearing capacity,presenting considerable advantages over other methods.

Compatibility of early natural enemy introductions in commercial pepper and tomato greenhouses with repeated pesticide applications

Successful integrated pest management in protected crops implies an evalu-ation of the compatibility of pesticides and natural enemies(NE),as control strategies that only rely on one tactic can fail when pest populations exceed NE activity or pests become resistant to pesticides.Nowadays in Almeria(Spain),growers release NE prior to transplanting or early in the crop cycle to favor their settlement before pest arrival because this improves biocontrol efficacy,although it extends pesticide exposure periods.The pur-pose of this research was to evaluate the compatibility of two applications of pesticides with key NE in 2-year trials inside tomato and sweet pepper commercial greenhouses:Nesidiocoris tenuis(Reuter)(Hemiptera:Miridae),Orius laevigatus(Say)(Hemiptera:Anthocoridae)and Amblyseius swirskii(Athias-Henriot)(Acari:Phytoseidac).In tomato,flubendiamide and chlorantraniliprole(IOBC category 1)were compatible with N.tenuis,but chlorpyrifos.:methyl and spinosad(IOBC categories 2-3),which efectively reduced Tiuta absoluta(Meyrick)(Lepidoptera:Gelechidae)density,compromised its predatory activity.In sweet pepper,chlorantraniliprole(IOBC category 1)was the only pesticide compatible with O.laevigatus while chlorantraniliprole,emamectin benzoate,spirote-tramat and pymetrozine were harmless(IOBC category 1)to Amblyseius swirskii,and sulfoxaflor slightly harmful(IOBC category 2)to this phytoseiid predator.

The architecture of the(post)studio:Jackson Pollock’s barn and Andy Warhol’s Silver Factory

This article will discuss a false dichotomy between two models,the modern art studio and the post-studio,which oppose the private and the public,the individual and the collective,hiding and the revealing.We will begin by analysing Daniel Buren’s position in his canonical text“Fonction de l’Atelier”and his practice,where the artist defines the foundations of post-studio work.As the text also describes a New York studio type that must be left behind,we will analyse Jackson Pollock’s and Andy Warhol’s workspaces through drawing reconstructions to demonstrate that these meet the defining characteristics of both models.It will be shown that the artists have used design strategies to retain certain aspects of studio culture while exploring others of the post-studio.This turning point reveals that the current belief about the obsolescence of the studio in a global era defined by communication,networking and mobility ignores its emerging post-studio qualities.This work aims to acknowledge this shift,obtaining a critical vision that will allow us to design contemporary workspaces avoiding stereotypical and reductionist approaches.

A PD-Type State-dependent Riccati Equation With Iterative Learning Augmentation for Mechanical Systems

This work proposes a novel proportional-derivative(PD)-type state-dependent Riccati equation(SDRE)approach with iterative learning control(ILC)augmentation.On the one hand,the PD-type control gains could adopt many useful available criteria and tools of conventional PD controllers.On the other hand,the SDRE adds nonlinear and optimality characteristics to the controller,i.e.,increasing the stability margins.These advantages with the ILC correction part deliver a precise control law with the capability of error reduction by learning.The SDRE provides a symmetric-positive-definite distributed nonlinear suboptimal gain K(x)for the control input law u=–R–1(x)BT(x)K(x)x.The sub-blocks of the overall gain R–1(x)BT(x)K(x),are not necessarily symmetric positive definite.A new design is proposed to transform the optimal gain into two symmetric-positive-definite gains like PD-type controllers as u=–KSP(x)e–KSD(x)?.The new form allows us to analytically prove the stability of the proposed learning-based controller for mechanical systems;and presents guaranteed uniform boundedness in finite-time between learning loops.The symmetric PD-type controller is also developed for the state-dependent differential Riccati equation(SDDRE)to manipulate the final time.The SDDRE expresses a differential equation with a final boundary condition,which imposes a constraint on time that could be used for finitetime control.So,the availability of PD-type finite-time control is an asset for enhancing the conventional classical linear controllers with this tool.The learning rules benefit from the gradient descent method for both regulation and tracking cases.One of the advantages of this approach is a guaranteed-stability even from the first loop of learning.A mechanical manipulator,as an illustrative example,was simulated for both regulation and tracking problems.Successful experimental validation was done to show the capability of the system in practice by the implementation of the proposed method on a variable-pitch rotor benchmark.

In a computer environment,an operating system is prone to malware,and even the Linux operating system is not an exception.In recent years,malware has evolved,and attackers have become more qualified compared to a few years ago.Furthermore,Linux-based systems have become more attractive to cybercriminals because of the increasing use of the Linux operating system in web servers and Internet of Things(IoT)devices.Windows is the most employed OS,so most of the research efforts have been focused on its malware protection rather than on other operating systems.As a result,hundreds of research articles,documents,and methodologies dedicated to malware analysis have been reported.However,there has not been much literature concerning Linux security and protection from malware.To address all these new challenges,it is necessary to develop a methodology that can standardize the required steps to perform the malware analysis in depth.A systematic analysis process makes the difference between good and ordinary malware analyses.Additionally,a deep malware comprehension can yield a faster and much more efficient malware eradication.In order to address all mentioned challenges,this article proposed a methodology for malware analysis in the Linux operating system,which is a traditionally overlooked field compared to the other operating systems.The proposed methodology is tested by a specific Linux malware,and the obtained test results have high effectiveness in malware detection.

Kinematic analysis of flexible bipedal robotic systems

In spite of its intrinsic complexities,the passive gait of bipedal robots on a sloping ramp is a subject of interest for numerous researchers.What distinguishes the present research from similar works is the consideration of flexibility in the constituent links of this type of robotic systems.This is not a far-fetched assumption because in the transient(impact)phase,due to the impulsive forces which are applied to the system,the likelihood of exciting the vibration modes increases considerably.Moreover,the human leg bones that are involved in walking are supported by viscoelastic muscles and ligaments.Therefore,for achieving more exact results,it is essential to model the robot links with viscoelastic properties.To this end,the Gibbs-Appell formulation and Newton's kinematic impact law are used to derive the most general form of the system's dynamic equations in the swing and transient phases of motion.The most important issue in the passive walking motion of bipedal robots is the determination of the initial robot configuration with which the system could accomplish a periodic and stable gait solely under the effect of gravitational force.The extremely unstable nature of the system studied in this paper and the vibrations caused by the impulsive forces induced by the impact of robot feet with the inclined surface are some of the very serious challenges encountered for achieving the above-mentioned goal.To overcome such challenges,an innovative method that uses a combination of the linearized equations of motion in the swing phase and the algebraic motion equations in the transition phase is presented in this paper to obtain an eigenvalue problem.By solving this problem,the suitable initial conditions that are necessary for the passive gait of this bipedal robot on a sloping surface are determined.The effects of the characteristic parameters of elastic links including the modulus of elasticity and the Kelvin-Voigt coefficient on the walking stability of this type of robotic systems are also studied.The findings o

Benchmarking Approach to Compare Web Applications Static Analysis Tools detecting OWASP Top Ten Security Vulnerabilities

To detect security vulnerabilities in a web application,the security analyst must choose the best performance Security Analysis Static Tool(SAST)in terms of discovering the greatest number of security vulnerabilities as possible.To compare static analysis tools for web applications,an adapted benchmark to the vulnerability categories included in the known standard Open Web Application Security Project(OWASP)Top Ten project is required.The information of the security effectiveness of a commercial static analysis tool is not usually a publicly accessible research and the state of the art on static security tool analyzers shows that the different design and implementation of those tools has different effectiveness rates in terms of security performance.Given the significant cost of commercial tools,this paper studies the performance of seven static tools using a new methodology proposal and a new benchmark designed for vulnerability categories included in the known standard OWASP Top Ten project.Thus,the practitioners will have more precise information to select the best tool using a benchmark adapted to the last versions of OWASP Top Ten project.The results of this work have been obtaining using widely acceptable metrics to classify them according to three different degree of web application criticality.
