Automated evaluation of parapapillary choroidal microvasculature in crowded optic discs:a controlled,optical coherence tomography angiography study

AIM:To compare superficial and deep vascular properties of optic discs between crowded discs and controls using optical coherence tomography angiography(OCT-A).METHODS:Thirty patients with crowded discs,and 47 control subjects were enrolled in the *** eye of each individual was included and OCT-A scans of optic discs were obtained in a 4.5×4.5 mm^(2) rectangular *** peripapillary capillary(RPC)density,peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer(pRNFL)thickness,cup volume,rim area,disc area,cup-to-disc(c/d)area ratio,and vertical c/d ratio were obtained automatically using device *** parapapillary choroidal microvasculature(PPCMv)density was calculated using MATLAB *** the vertical c/d ratio of the optic disc was absent or small cup,it was considered as a crowded ***:The mean signal strength index of OCT-A images was similar between the crowded discs and control eyes(P=0.740).There was no difference in pRNFL between the two groups(P=0.102).There were no differences in RPC density in whole image(P=0.826)and peripapillary region(P=0.923),but inside disc RPC density was higher in crowded optic discs(P=0.003).The PPCMv density in the inner-hemisuperior region was also lower in crowded discs(P=0.026).The pRNFL thickness was positively correlated with peripapillary RPC density(r=0.498,P<0.001).The inside disc RPC density was negatively correlated with c/d area ratio(r=-0.341,P=0.002).CONCLUSION:The higher inside disc RPC density and lower inner-hemisuperior PPCMv density are found in eyes with crowded optic discs.

Investigation of Microstructure, Microhardness and Thermal Properties of Ag-In Intermetallic Alloys Prepared by Vacuum Arc Meltings

Ag-In intermetallic alloys were produced by using vacuum arc furnace. Differential Scanning Calorimetry(DSC) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometry(EDX) were used to determine the thermal properties and chemical composition of the phases respectively. Microhardness values of Ag-In intermetallics were calculated with Vickers hardness measurement method. According to the experimental results, Ag-34 wt%In intermetallic system generated the best results of energy saving and storage compared to other intermetallic systems. Also from the microhardness results, it was observed that intermetallic alloys were harder than pure silver and Ag-26 wt%In system had the highest microhardness value with 143.45 kg/mm^(2).

The light curve analyses and orbital period variations for two contact binary stars,LS Del and V997 Cyg,are presented in this work which was conducted in the frame of the Binary Systems of South and North project Ground-based photometric observations were performed at two observatories in *** used the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite(TESS)data for extracting times of minima and light curve analysis of the targe *** O-C diagram for both systems displays a parabolic *** Del and V997 Cyg’s orbital periods are increasing at rates of dP/dt=7.20×10^(-08)days yr^(-1)and dP/dt=2.54×10^(-08)days yr^(-1),respectively Therefore,it can be concluded that mass is being transferred from the less massive star to the more massive component with a rate of dM/dt=-1.96×10^(-7)M_(⊙)yr^(-1)for the LS Del system,and dM/dt=-3.83×10^(-7)M_(⊙)yr-1for V997 *** parameters of a third possible object in the system are also *** PHysics Of Eclipsing BinariEs Python code was used to analyze the light *** light curve solutions needed a cold starspot due to the asymmetry in the LS Del system’s light curve *** mass ratio fill-out factor,and star temperature all indicate that both systems are contact binary types in this *** methods were applied to estimate the absolute parameters of the systems:one method relied on the parallax of Gaia DR3,and the other used a P-M *** positions of the systems are also depicted on the M-L,M-R q-L_(ratio),and logM_(tot)-logJ_(0)*** recommend that further observations and investigations be done on the existence of a fourth body in this system.

Melatonin is a versatile indolamine synthesized and secreted by the pineal gland in response to the photoperiodic information received by the retinohypothalamic signaling *** has many benefits,such as organizing circadian rhythms and acting as a powerful *** aimed to show the antitumor effects of melatonin in both in vivo and in vitro models through the mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)signaling pathway and the Argyrophilic Nucleolar Regulatory Region(AgNOR),using the Microcomputed Tomography(Micro CT).Ehrlich ascites carcinoma(EAC)cells were administered into the mice by subcutaneous *** with solid tumors were injected intraperitoneally with 50 and 100 mg/kg melatonin for 14 *** measurements for the taken tumors were made with micro-CT imaging,immunohistochemistry(IHC),real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR)and ***,the tumor tissue volume in the Tumor+100 mg/kg melatonin group was significantly lower than that in the other groups in the data obtained from micro-CT *** the IHC analysis,the groups treated with Tumor+100 mg/kg melatonin were compared when the mTOR signaling pathway and factor 8(F8)expression were compared with the control *** was determined that there was a significant decrease(p<0.05).Significant differences were found in the total AgNOR area/nuclear area(TAA/NA)ratio in the treatment groups(p<0.05).Furthermore,there were significant differences between the amount of mTOR mRNA for the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K),AKT Serine/Threonine Kinase(PKB/AKT)genes(p<0.05).Cell apoptosis was evaluated with Annexin V in an in vitro study with different doses of melatonin;It was observed that 100µg/mL melatonin dose caused an increase in the apoptotic cell *** this study,we have reported anti-tumor effects of melatonin in cell culture studies as well as in mice *** characterization of the melatonin-mediated cancer inhibitory effects will be valuable in advanc

Rapid detection of total phenolics,antioxidant activity and ascorbic acid of dried apples by chemometric algorithms

Multivariate approaches like machine learning are commonly used in estimation of biochemical traits from spectral and color characteristics of foodstuffs and agricultural *** present study,windfall apples of Golden Delicious,Oregon Spur and Granny Smith cultivars were dried in open-sun,controlled greenhouse,microwave oven(200W),hybrid system(100W+60℃),convective dryer(70℃)and freeze-dryer(−55℃).Spectral,chromatic and biochemical characteristics of dried apples were determined and assessed through machine learning *** phenolic matter,DPPH(2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl),FRAP(Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power)and ascorbic acid content were estimated with the use of five different machine learning algorithms(artificial neural networks,k-nearest neighbor,random forest,gaussian processes and support vector regression).The most successful results were achieved in estimation of total phenolic content(R≥0.85).Additionally,Multilayer Perceptron,Support Vector Regression and Gaussian Processes were identified as the best machine learning algorithms in estimation of biochemical compositions of dried apples.

Idiopathic hirsutism:Is it really idiopathic or is it misnomer?

Hirsutism,which is characterized by excessive growth of terminal hair in a male pattern,may result from various causes including polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS),non-classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia,adrenal or ovarian tumors or it may be *** hirsutism is currently defined as hirsutism associated with normal ovulatory function,normal serum androgen levels and normal ovarian morphology,however,the pathogenesis of idiopathic hirsutism is not *** androgens are the main hormones to stimulate growth of body hair,therefore,there should be any form of increased androgen effect irrespective of normal serum androgen levels in any patient with *** accordance to this scientific truth,we have previously shown that,although within normal limits,patients with idiopathic hirsutism have relatively higher serum androgen levels(relative hyperandrogenemia)in comparison to healthy subjects which let as to think that is idiopathic hirsutism really idiopathic?In addition to relative hyperandrogenemia,we have previously shown that,in comparison to healthy subjects,women with idiopathic hirsutism demonstrated higher expression of steroid sulphatase and 17-beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase mRNA both in the subumbilical region and arm skin,which contributes to local androgen *** results support the idea that,in some patients,although the adrenals or ovaries do not secrete increased amount of androgens leading to hyperandrogenemia,pilocebaceous unit locally produce increased amount of androgens leading to hirsutism without ovulatory *** the demonstration of relative hyperandrogenemia and possible increase in local androgen synthesis in patients with idiopathic hirsutism,we think that idiopathic hirsutism is not idiopathic and it may be named as“normoandrogenic hirsutism”.Furthermore,it may not be a different entity but may be an early stage of hyperandrogenic disorders such as ***,this can be find out by following-up p

A Price-elastic Approach for Optimal Scheduling of Small-scale Storage Devices in Smart Houses with Short-term and Long-term Constraints

Consecutive charging and discharging of storage devices(SDs)might deem beneficial from the perspective of short-term ***,it highly impacts the life span of the embedded battery and render restrictions on energy storage *** investigate short-term and long-term constraints of SDs through a three-stage price-elastic approach to the optimal operation of small-scale SDs in smart *** first stage deals with data and scenario characterization where the data for determining short-term and long-term operation constraints of SD are *** number of scenarios are generated to represent uncertain parameters such as long-term demand forecasting,daily load profile,electricity price,and photovoltaic(PV)*** second stage optimizes the long-term operation of SD using the envisioned scenarios subject to the long-term operation constraints and the installment costs of *** outputs of this stage are two indicators referred to as price elasticity and price offset coefficients,which are used as the inputs for the third *** third stage is responsible for decision-making on short-term operation of *** outputs of the second stage along with short-term forecasting for daily electricity price,daily load and daily PV generation are *** on the acquired data,proper price elasticity and price offset are determined for optimal *** simulations are performed for different demand forecasting and electricity *** results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
