Triclosan(TCS)is a ubiquitous antimicrobial used in daily consumer *** reports have shown that TCS could induce hepatotoxicity,endocrine disruption,disturbance on immune function and impaired thyroid *** is critical in the elimination of toxins,while the effects of TCS on kidney have not yet been *** aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of TCS exposure on kidney function and the possible underlying mechanisms in *** C57BL/6 mice were orally exposed to TCS with the doses of 10 and 100 mg/(kg•day)for 13 *** was dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO)and diluted by corn oil for *** oil containing DMSO was used as vehicle *** and kidney tissues were collected for *** associated with kidney function,oxidative stress,inflammation and fibrosis were *** results showed that TCS could cause renal injury as was revealed by increased levels of renal function markers including serum creatinine,urea nitrogen and uric acid,as well as increased oxidative stress,pro-inflammatory cytokines and fibroticmarkers in a dose dependent manner,whichweremore significantly in 100 mg/(kg•day)*** spectrometry-based analysis of metabolites relatedwith lipid metabolism demonstrated the occurrence of lipid accumulation and defective fatty acid oxidation in 100 mg/(kg•day)TCS-exposed mouse *** processes might lead to lipotoxicity and energy depletion,thus resulting in kidney fibrosis and functional *** together,the present study demonstrated that TCS could induce lipid accumulation and fatty acid metabolism disturbance in mouse kidney,whichmight contribute to renal function *** present study further widens our insights into the adverse effects of TCS.

Effect of the Zagros Mountains on the Spatial Distribution of Precipitation

In order to examine the effect of the Zagros Mountains on precipitation, first, the annual and Seasonal rainfall indices （rain days frequency, rain amount, daily rainfall intensity, and heavy rains） from 43 stations in 1995 - 2004 between the 30° N to 35° N parallels over the mountain range were analyzed. Second, the effect of the Zagros Mountains was studied through the computation of the spatial correlations between the precipitation parameters and the topographic indices （station site elevation, station mean elevation within a radius of 2.5 km, mean elevation of 9 blocks along each of the eight Cartesian directions, and the elevation differences of these 9 blocks from the station mean elevation）. The results showed that in the cold season the maximal rainfall occurs on the upper range of west slope, while in warm season it spreads over the study area. The correlations between precipitation and elevation indices were positive on the north of the stations and negative on the south of the stations, that is, the higher elevations of the stations to the north force the uplifting of the moist air masses and increase rainfall at the stations, while the lower elevations to their south lead the movement of the moist air masses to the stations. This is due to the fact that these stations or slopes are exposed to the moist air masses coming from the Mediterranean Sea and the Persian Gulf. The heavy rain days and the summer sporadic rain events do not show significant correlations with the topographic indices. The findings indicate that the Zagros Mountains intensify the cold period frontal rains especially over the west slope and block the moist air masses from entering the interior parts of the country. Moreover, these mountains play a secondary role in creating rain days. But they are very important in the production of precipitation in the area. Lead-free （***0.5）Nb03 （NKN） thin films were fabricated by spin coating on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates by a diol-based sol-gel process. Na-acetate, K-acetate, Nb-pentaethoxide and 1,3 propanediol were used to prepare the NKN precursor solution. Thermal analysis showed two characteristic temperatures of 360 and 600℃. Based on these temperatures, a heat treatment program with pyrolysis at 360℃ and calcination at 600℃ after every layer was used. To avoid inhomogeneities and secondary phases, an excess of sodium and potassium was necessary. To evaluate the proper excess amount of sodium and potassium secondary ion mass spectrometry （SIMS） lateral element maps and X-ray diffraction （XRD） patterns were recorded. An excess amount of 20% led to homogeneous distribution of the elements and to single phase perovskite NKN films with random crystal orientation. Scanning electron microscopy （SEMI images showed a pore free surface with 100 nm grains. The leakage current measurements showed a current of lx10-3 A/cm2 at 150 kV/cm.

A simple method for estimating the contributions of mineral dust to PM2.5, PM10, or TSP is presented. The method is based on the assumption of external mixing of two types of particles with different PM2.5/PM10 ratios, The method was applied to local and transported dust events observed in Tsukuba, Japan, and was compared with collocated polarization lidar measurements. The method was then applied to three dust events that occurred in Oki, Rishiri, and Ochiishi,Japan, in 2012. The results showed that the method was useful for detecting mineral dust and for qualitatively describing the mixing of dust with anthropogenic aerosols.

This study looks at the historical reliability of the agent-based model of the global energy system. We present a mathematical framework for the agent-based model calibration and sensitivity analysis based on historical observations. Simulation consistency with the historical record is measured as a distance between two vectors of data points and inference on parameter values is done from the probability distribution of this stochastic estimate. Proposed methodology is applied to the model of the global energy system. Some model properties and limitations followed from calibration results are discussed.

Estimation of maximum scour depth around bridge piers under ice-covered conditions using data-driven methods

The scouring around bridge foundations is a significant concern in civil engineering. Several research has been conducted experimentally and numerically to study the maximum scour depth around the foundations of a bridge in open channel conditions. In cold regions, where ice forms on lakes, reservoirs, and rivers, the interaction between ice and hydraulic structures is further complicated. The flow distribution varies significantly leading to deeper and larger scouring around bridge foundations. The present study took advantage of the data-driven methods to investigate the impacts of ice conditions to maximum scour depth. In total, 96 datasets were extracted from previous studies. The M5 decision tree, Genetic Expression Programming(GEP), and Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO) were used in data analysis. The models were developed using the train-and-test approach to avoid over-training. The mentioned developed models were further compared with a previous empirical equation associated with the prediction of maximum scour depth around piers under ice conditions. Finally, a sensitivity analysis method was applied to evaluate the performance of the data-driven models. It was found that the approaching velocity and pier diameter play the most crucial role in determination of the maximum scour depth. The result is generally in agreement with those of previous experimental studies.

Improving Multi-Model Ensemble Forecasts of Tropical Cyclone Intensity Using Bayesian Model Averaging

This paper proposes a method for multi-model ensemble forecasting based on Bayesian model averaging （BMA）, aiming to improve the accuracy of tropical cyclone （TC） intensity forecasts, especially forecasts of minimum surface pressure at the cyclone center （Pmin）＇ The multi-model ensemble comprises three operational forecast models： the Global Forecast System （GFS） of NCEP, the Hurricane Weather Research and Forecasting （HWRF） models of NCEP, and the Integrated Forecasting System （IFS） of ECMWF. The mean of a predictive distribution is taken as the BMA forecast. In this investigation, bias correction of the minimum surface pressure was applied at each forecast lead time, and the distribution （or probability density function, PDF） of emin was used and transformed. Based on summer season forecasts for three years, we found that the intensity errors in TC forecast from the three models var-ied significantly. The HWRF had a much smaller intensity error for short lead-time forecasts. To demonstrate the proposed methodology, cross validation was implemented to ensure more efficient use of the sample data and more reliable testing. Comparative analysis shows that BMA for this three-model ensemble, after bias correction and distri-bution transformation, provided more accurate forecasts than did the best of the ensemble members （HWRF）, with a 5%-7% decrease in root-mean-square error on average. BMA also outperformed the multi-model ensemble, and it produced ＂predictive variance＂ that represented the forecast uncertainty of the member models. In a word, the BMA method used in the multi-model ensemble forecasting was successful in TC intensity forecasts, and it has the poten-tial to be applied to routine operational forecasting.
