The Application of Situational Teaching Approach in Senior Middle school english Class

As one of the four basic skills in english learning. english writing is an essential language skill, which is an indispensable part in junior high school english teaching. english writing, however, has always been a weakness of the junior high school students in China. At the same time, for english teacher english writing teaching has become a major problem. Especially in the traditional english writing teaching, the relationship between reading and writing in dialectic was oftenneglected. In order to improve our students writing ability, combining reading with writing can be learned through training. Krashen's Input Hypothesis and Swan's Output Hypothesis are the basic theories of this action researchin the present study. The author would try to combine the input withthe output as an effective means in language teaching and learning. Based on the theory, the author would try to learn the relationship between reading and writing in order to test if the Reading-to-Writing approach can improve junior high school students' englishwriting competence.

With the rapid advancing of the new english curriculum reform, english teaching has also been enriched constantlyand many teaching approaches have sprung up. Situational teaching is one of them, as one of the most popularteaching approaches, playing a crucial role in english classroom teaching. This paper is mainly devoted toexploring the origins and development of situational teaching approach, functions as well as ways to apply it tosenior middle school english classes. Moreover, it presents a teaching case of the author in the end. Finally, thispaper tries to seek for feasible and practical ways to improve the teaching efficiency.
