Vision screening plays an important role in the early detection of children who have or probably are predisposed to have specific visual problems. The validity and reliability of the screening batteries in relation to the age group to be screened, and the person administering the test as well as the referral and follow-up criteria contribute to the overall outcome of the vision screening. Despite the long history of vision screening and significant improvement in the development of screening protocols, no agreement exists concerning the age at which children should be screened, the exact test batteries that should be included and who should conduct the screening. This review highlights some important aspects of the history of paediatric vision screening and available evidence in support of their use to detect visual conditions in children. It also examines some of the barriers against the development of paediatric vision screening models especially in low and medium income countries.

Childhood visual impairment(VI) have a significant impact on the educational achievement, career choices and social life of affected individual, and in children, is mainly due to either preventable or treatable causes. Reliable data on the prevalence and causes of VI in children will guide the development of a systematic vision screening program for its early detection and successful treatment of possible causes. The purpose of this literature review is to summarize the available data on prevalence and causes of VI in school-age children from various regions globally. A discussion on the major findings highlighting the definition criteria, classifications and limitations for further studies is also presented.

●AIM:To assess the influence of near work,time outdoor and parental myopia on the prevalence of myopia in school children in Aba,Nigeria.●METHODS:Primary and secondary school children aged between 8 and 15 y were randomly recruited from 12 schools in *** on family history,near work and outdoor activity was obtained using myopia risk factor *** refraction was performed using autorefraction *** was defined as spherical equivalent refraction(SER)≤-0.50 D in the poorer *** were analysed for 1197(male:538 and female:659)children with full relevant data.●RESULTS:Risk of developing myopia was positively associated with parental myopia[odds ratio(OR):6.80;95%CI,2.76-16.74;P<0.01)for one myopic parent and(OR:9.47;95%CI,3.88-23.13;P<0.01)for two myopic parents,longer daily reading hour(OR:1.21;95%CI,1.03-1.42;P=0.02)and less time outdoors(OR:0.8;95%CI,0.74-0.87;P<0.01).●CONCLUSION:Parental history of myopia is the most important risk factor associated with *** addition,children with both parents being myopic has increased odds of developing myopia than those with one myopic *** is recommended therefore,that children spend more time outdoors as this could reduce the prevalence and progression of myopia.

The effects of the aspect ratio on unsteady solutions through the curved duct flow are studied numerically by a spectral based computational procedure with a temperature gradient between the vertical sidewalls for the Grashof number 100 ≤ Gr ≤ 2 000. The outer wall of the duct is heated while the inner wall is cooled and the top and bottom walls are adiabatic. In this paper, unsteady solutions are calculated by the time history analysis of the Nusselt number for the Dean numbers Dn = 100 and Dn = 500 and the aspect ratios 1≤γ≤ 3. Water is taken as a working fluid （Pr =7.0）. It is found that at Dn = 100, there appears a steady-state solution for small or large Gr. For moderate Gr, however, the steady-state solution turns into the periodic solution if γ is increased. For Dn = 500, on the other hand, it is analyzed that the steady-state solution turns into the chaotic solution for small and large Gr for any γ lying in the range. For moderate Gr at Dn = 500, however, the steady-state flow turns into the chaotic flow through the periodic oscillating flow if the aspect ratio is increased.

Four tools with different pin centerline deviations were fabricated to friction stir weld(FSW)thick plates of Al-Mg-Zn-Cu *** results show that,compared with the pin without pin centerline deviation,the applying of pin centerline deviation is favorable to improve the flowability of plastic material,enlarging the size of nugget zone,refining the grains and reprecipitated phase particles,enhancing the degrees of dynamic recrystallization and quantity of high angle grain boundaries owing to higher temperature and bigger eccentric force,resulting in the increase of strain *** for the used pin with a centerline deviation of 0.2 mm,the highest average hardness and best metallurgical properties of thick FSW joints are produced,and which are consistent with the microstructure evolution and recrystallization ***,the fracture mode of the joints produced by the pins with centerline deviation from 0 mm to 0.3 mm changes gradually from a brittle fracture in the nugget zone(NZ)to a ductile failure in the HAZ.

The electronic speckle pattern interferometer was used to in situ monitor the pitting corrosion of 304 stainless steel at anodic polarization. The pitting current and pitting current density of a single pit were obtained. The pit growth was controlled by the corrosion products diffusion. The pit morphology was observed by a scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the pit was dish shaped, and the geometric parameters and pit growth time conformed to the function of Y = A ＋ B1t ＋ B2t2 ＋ B3t3.

· AIM: To investigate and quantify changes in the branching patterns of the retina vascular network in diabetes using the fractal analysis method.·METHODS: This was a clinic-based prospective study of 172 participants managed at the Ophthalmological Clinic of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, between January 2012 and December 2013. A set of 172 segmented and skeletonized human retinal images, corresponding to both normal(24 images) and pathological(148 images)states of the retina were examined. An automatic unsupervised method for retinal vessel segmentation was applied before fractal analysis. The fractal analyses of the retinal digital images were performed using the fractal analysis software Image J. Statistical analyses were performed for these groups using Microsoft Office Excel2003 and Graph Pad In Stat software.·RESULTS: It was found that subtle changes in the vascular network geometry of the human retina are influenced by diabetic retinopathy(DR) and can be estimated using the fractal geometry. The average of fractal dimensions D for the normal images(segmented and skeletonized versions) is slightly lower than the corresponding values of mild non-proliferative DR(NPDR) images(segmented and skeletonized versions).The average of fractal dimensions D for the normal images(segmented and skeletonized versions) is higher than the corresponding values of moderate NPDR images(segmented and skeletonized versions). The lowestvalues were found for the corresponding values of severe NPDR images(segmented and skeletonized versions).· CONCLUSION: The fractal analysis of fundus photographs may be used for a more complete understanding of the early and basic pathophysiological mechanisms of diabetes. The architecture of the retinal microvasculature in diabetes can be quantitative quantified by means of the fractal *** abnormalities on retinal imaging may elucidate early mechanistic pathways for microvascular complications and distinguish patients with DR from health
