Effects of aggregate size distribution and carbon nanotubes on the mechanical properties of cemented gangue backfill samples under true triaxial compression

The mechanical behavior of cemented gangue backfill materials(CGBMs)is closely related to particle size distribution(PSD)of aggregates and properties of cementitious ***,the true triaxial compression tests,CT scanning,SEM,and EDS tests were conducted on cemented gangue backfill samples(CGBSs)with various carbon nanotube concentrations(P_(CNT))that satisfied fractal theory for the PSD of *** mechanical properties,energy dissipations,and failure mechanisms of the CGBSs under true triaxial compression were systematically *** results indicate that appropriate carbon nanotubes(CNTs)effectively enhance the mechanical properties and energy dissipations of CGBSs through micropore filling and microcrack bridging,and the optimal effect appears at P_(CNT)of 0.08wt%.Taking PSD fractal dimension(D)of 2.500 as an example,compared to that of CGBS without CNT,the peak strength(σ_(p)),axial peak strain(ε_(1,p)),elastic strain energy(Ue),and dissipated energy(U_(d))increased by 12.76%,29.60%,19.05%,and90.39%,***,excessive CNTs can reduce the mechanical properties of CGBSs due to CNT agglomeration,manifesting a decrease inρ_(p),ε_(1,p),and the volumetric strain increment(Δε_(v))when P_(CNT)increases from 0.08wt%to 0.12wt%.Moreover,the addition of CNTs improved the integrity of CGBS after macroscopic failure,and crack extension in CGBSs appeared in two modes:detour and pass through the ***σ_(p)and U_(d)firstly increase and then decrease with increasing D,and porosity shows the opposite ***ε_(1,p)andΔε_(v)are negatively correlated with D,and CGBS with D=2.150 has the maximum deformation parameters(ε_(1,p)=0.05079,Δε_(v)=0.01990)due to the frictional slip effect caused by coarse *** increasing D,the failure modes of CGBSs are sequentially manifested as oblique shear failure,"Y-shaped"shear failure,and conjugate shear failure.

Experimental research on the microstructure and compressive and tensile properties of nano-SiO_(2) concrete containing basalt fibers

Urban underground space resources are gaining increasing attention for the sustainable development of *** concrete cannot meet the needs of underground ***-performance concrete was prepared using varying dosages of nano-SiO_(2)and basalt fiber,and its compressive and tensile strength was *** concrete microstructure was analyzed and used to assess the mechanisms through which the nano-SiO_(2)and basalt fibers affect the strength of *** cement hydration productions in concrete produced varied with the dosage of nano-SiO_(2).When the nano-SiO_(2)dosage was between 0 and 1.8%,the mass of the C-S-H gel and AFt crystals increased gradually with the nano-SiO_(2)*** the nano-SiO_(2)dosage was 1.2%,optimum amounts of C-S-H gel and AFt crystals existed,and the compactness of concrete was well,which agreed with the results of the compressive strength *** the basalt-fiber dosage was between 3 and 4 kg/m^(3),the basalt fibers and the cement matrix were closely bonded,and the splitting tensile strength of the concrete markedly *** the basalt-fiber dosage exceeded 5 kg/m^(3),the basalt fibers clustered together,resulting in weak bonding between the basalt fibers and the cement matrix,consequently,the basalt fibers were easily pulled apart from the *** the nano-SiO_(2)and basalt fiber dosages were 1.2%and 3 kg/m^(3),respectively,the compactness of the concrete microstructure was well and the strength enhancement was the greatest;additionally,the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength were 9.04%and 17.42%,respectively,greater than those of plain *** macroscopic tests on the mechanical properties of the nano-SiO_(2)concrete containing basalt fibers agreed well with the results of microstructure analysis.

Applying recycled concrete for engineered projects not only protects the ecological environment but also improves the utilization rate of waste concrete to satisfy sustainable development ***,the mechanical properties of recycled concrete are not as good as those of ordinary *** enhance the former’s performance and increase its popularity and application in engineeringﬁelds,notable advances have been made by using steel,synthetic,plant,and mineralﬁber *** materials are added to recycled concrete to improve its mechanical *** have shown that(1)steelﬁbers have a distinct reinforcing effect and improve the strength,toughness,and elastic modulus of recycled concrete;(2)the addition of syntheticﬁbers can improve the tension,crack resistance,and durability of concrete,but the size effect needs to be further explored and elaborated;(3)plantﬁber concrete is lightweight and environmentally friendly and provides high toughness and good thermal insulation,but theﬁbers corrode in alkaline environments;in addition,plantﬁbers have high water absorption capacity,which leads to wet expansion and dry shrinkage phenomena,which need to be further studied;and(4)the cost of basaltﬁber,a mineralﬁber,is relatively low,and a suitable basalt content can improve the mechanical properties of recycled concrete to a certain extent.

Damage constitutive model of lunar soil simulant geopolymer under impact loading

Lunar base construction is a crucial component of the lunar exploration program,and considering the dynamic characteristics of lunar soil is important for moon ***,investigating the dynamic properties of lunar soil by establishing a constitutive relationship is critical for providing a theoretical basis for its damage *** this paper,a split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)device was used to perform three sets of impact tests under different pressures on a lunar soil simulant geopolymer(LSSG)with sodium silicate(Na_(2)SiO_(3))contents of 1%,3%,5%and 7%.The dynamic stressestrain curves,failure modes,and energy variation rules of LSSG under different pressures were *** equation was modified based on the ZWT viscoelastic constitutive model and was combined with the damage *** damage element obeys the Weibull distribution and the constitutive equation that can describe the mechanical properties of LSSG under dynamic loading was *** results demonstrate that the dynamic compressive strength of LSSG has a marked strain-rate strengthening ***_(2)SiO_(3) has both strengthening and deterioration effects on the dynamic compressive strength of *** Na_(2)SiO_(3) grows,the dynamic compressive strength of LSSG first increases and then *** a fixed air pressure,5%Na_(2)SiO_(3) had the largest dynamic compressive strength,the largest incident energy,the smallest absorbed energy,and the lightest *** ZWT equation was modified according to the stress response properties of LSSG and the range of the SHPB strain rate to obtain the constitutive equation of the LSSG,and the model’s correctness was confirmed.

Application of New Concept Waterproofing in Xiang'an Undersea Tunnel,China

As a kind of transportation mode for crossing channels, undersea tunnel has incomparable advantages for its directness, convenience, fastness, insusceptibility to weather conditions, and smaller influences on environments. In recent years, with the development of undersea tunnel construction, the design and construction technologies have been greatly enhanced. The first undersea tunnel in China has just been built. Waterproofing is the key technique of undersea tunneling. A new concept of waterproofing scheme of grouting, sealing, draining and divided sections was adopted in the construction of the tunnel based on the researches, the in-situ geological features, the astuteness of the current technology and the cost of construction. The structural details of the sealing and draining system are introduced to illustrate the salient features of the new waterproofing technique. It is hoped that experiences described in the paper can offer guidance for the construction of the extensive undersea tunnels in the coming years.

Study on the energy evolution mechanism of low-temperature concrete under uniaxial compression

In order to study the mechanical properties and energy evolution of low-temperature concrete during uniaxial compres‐sion, a uniaxial compression test was performed on concrete. In addition, the evolution laws of compressive strength, deformation modulus and total energy, elastic potential energy, dissipated energy and peak energy of concrete in the process of deformation and failure are analyzed. The effects of age and temperature on low-temperature concrete is analyzed from the perspective of energy. Test results show that temperature improves the strength and deformation of concrete to varying degrees. When cured for 28 days, the compressive strength and deformation modulus of concrete at −20 ℃ is increased by 17.98% and 21.45% respectively, compared with the compressive strength and deformation modulus at room temperature of 20 ℃. At the point of failure of the concrete under uniaxial compression, the total damage energy and the dissipation energy both increase, while the developed elastic strain energy increases and then decreases. Increase in curing duration tends to increase the total destruction energy of concrete, peak point elastic strain energy, peak point dissipation energy, and peak point total energy. Whereas increase in curing durations, has shown to decrease the total destruction energy of concrete, the peak point elastic strain energy, peak point dissipation energy, and peak point total energy. The peak point strain energy reflects the ability of low-temperature concrete to reasonably resist damage. By using the principle of energy analysis to study the deformation process of concrete, it provides research methods and ideas for the deformation analysis of this type of material under load.

A multi-purpose prototype test system is developed to study the mechanical behavior of tunnel sup-porting structure,including a modular counterforce device,a powerful loading equipment,an advanced intelligent management system and an efficient noncontact deformation measurement *** functions of the prototype test system are adjustable size and shape of the modular counterforce structure,sufficient load reserve and accurate loading,multi-connection linkage intelligent management,and high-precision and continuously positioned noncontact deformation *** modular counterforce structure is currently the largest in the world,with an outer diameter of 20.5 m,an inner diameter of 16.5 m and a height of 6 *** case application proves that the prototype test system can reproduce the mechanical behavior of the tunnel lining during load-bearing,deformation and failure processes in detail.

Quantitative evaluation of the contribution of underground space to urban resilience:A case study in China

Urban underground space(UUS)development has been acknowledged as a positive contribution to urban resilience(UR).Such contribution has been qualitatively addressed in recent years,but only quantitatively discussed in few *** evaluation methods for UR are widely used in China and around the world,but the role of underground space is barely *** paper provides a way to bridge this gap on the city scale.A UR evaluation framework was carefully constructed that covers the basic aspects and elements of *** contributions of UUS to UR were identified and integrated into the UR evaluation framework,and the measurement methods for each indicator related to UUS were determined.A case study of 19 sample cities in China were conducted using the integrated evaluation *** analysis and clustering analysis were further adopted to interpret the evaluation results,mainly with three indicators reflecting the level of UUS development,namely UUS area(m^(2)),UUS density(104 m^(2)/km^(2))and UUS area per capita(m^(2)/person).The results showed a strong correlation between UUS area and *** average proportion of UR provided by UUS in the 19 sample cities was 16.46%,while the maximum figure reached 29.20%.The sample cities were clustered into four categories based on the relationship between the proportion of UR provided by UUS,UUS area,and GDP per capita,where both high and low UUS area tend to provide less proportion of resilience than the medium UUS *** suggestions for UUS utilization were proposed to assist cities in achieving urban resilience.

Cutaneous nerve regeneration in diabetic wounds remains a challenge for current clinical ***,a natural protein-based functional hydrogel is developed using keratin as the sole matrix,and protocatechuic aldehyde(PA)and zinc ions as the building blocks through dual-dynamic crosslinking reactions of thiol-aldehyde addition and catecholzinc ions *** unique structural design endows the hydrogel with excellent injectability,skin adhesion,self-healing and antibacterial ability,and *** addition,this hydrogel acts as a drug carrier for the loading and sustained release of phellopterin(PP),a natural compound extracted from traditional Chinese medicine Angelica *** findings demonstrate that the PP-loaded hydrogel promotes cutaneous nerve regeneration,angiogenesis and tissue remodeling in the full-thickness wounds in both db/db and streptozotocin-induced C57BL/6 diabetic mice,notably by the synergistic effect of zinc ions and PP,showing a great potential in diabetic wound therapy.
