Seismic Imaging of Complex Structures in the Tarim Basin

Conventional time imaging techniques are not capable of producing accurate seismic imaging of the subsurface in the mountain front of the Tarim Basin, China. Their imaged structures have led to some major drilling failures before, bearing a disrepute that ＂their structural closures have wheels and their structural highs have springs＂. This article first lists the imaging challenges, and explains in a schematic why the time imaging techniques fail in this area. Then through a series of real data examples, it demonstrates that when there exist lateral velocity variations, depth imaging is the only solution to tackle the imaging challenges in this area. Depth imaging accounts for the complexity of the wavefield, therefore produces superior and geological plausible images. The core task in properly performing depth imaging is building the velocity model. This article stresses some the main aspects in this regard.

Land Suitability Evaluation for Agricultural Cropland in Mongolia Using the Spatial MCDM Method and AHP Based GIS

The purpose of this study was to prepare a cropland suitability map of Mongolia based on comprehensive landscape principles, including topography, soil properties, vegetation, climate and socio-economic factors. The primary goal was to create a more accurate map to estimate vegetation criteria (above ground biomass AGB), soil organic matter, soil texture, and the hydrothermal coefficient using Landsat 8 satellite imagery. The analysis used Landsat 8 imagery from the 2016 summer season with a resolution of 30 meters, time series MODIS vegetation products (MOD13, MOD15, MOD17) averaged over 16 days from June to August 2000-2016, an SRTM DEM with a resolution of 30 meters, and a field survey of measured biomass and soil data. In total, 6 main factors were classified and quality evaluation criteria were developed for 17 criteria, each with 5 levels. In this research the spatial MCDM (multi-criteria decision-making) method and AHP based GIS were applied. This was developed for each criteria layer’s value by multiplying parameters for each factor obtained from the pair comparison matrix by the weight addition, and by the suitable evaluation of several criteria factors affecting cropland. General accuracy was 88%, while PLS and RF regressions were 82.3% and 92.8%, respectively.

The role of solutes in grain refinement of hypoeutectic magnesium and aluminum alloys

The effect of solutes on grain formation has been studied over a century but is still under debating,simply because it is a very complex *** article focuses on the effect of dissolved solute on the growth,fragmentation of a dendrite and the resultant grain *** data on grain size in magnesium and aluminum alloys with various solute concentrations are collected and analyzed using phase diagram variables including Q,P,andΔ*** physical meaning of each phase diagram variable is *** fitting of the recently proposed two-parameter models with experimental data suggests that there is a clear correlation between the measured grain size and the solidification range of the alloy over the entire range of the hypoeutectic *** a trend of grain size vs.ΔT is closely related to the grain refining mechanisms operating under relevant experimental conditions.A critical review of the grain refining mechanisms indicates that the mechanisms associated with the dendrite fragmentation are operating under the conditions where convection is substantial in the melt during its solidification.

The Application of a Meteo-hydrological Forecasting System with Rainfall Bias Correction in a Small and Medium-sized Catchment

Meteo-hydrological forecasting models are an effective way to generate high-resolution gridded rainfall data for water source research and flood *** quality of rainfall data in terms of both intensity and distribution is very important for establishing a reliable meteo-hydrological forecasting *** improve the accuracy of rainfall data,the successive correction method is introduced to correct the bias of rainfall,and a meteo-hydrological forecasting model based on WRF and WRF-Hydro is applied for streamflow forecast over the Zhanghe River catchment in *** performance of WRF rainfall is compared with the China Meteorological Administration Multi-source Precipitation Analysis System(CMPAS),and the simulated streamflow from the model is further *** shows that the corrected WRF rainfall is more similar to the CMPAS in both temporal and spatial distribution than the original WRF *** contrast,the statistical metrics of the corrected WRF rainfall are *** the corrected WRF rainfall is used to drive the WRF-Hydro model,the simulated streamflow of most events is significantly improved in both hydrographs and volume than that of using the original WRF *** the studied events,the largest improvement of the NSE is from-0.68 to *** proves that correcting the bias of WRF rainfall with the successive correction method can greatly improve the performance of streamflow *** general,the WRF/WRF-Hydro meteo-hydrological forecasting model based on the successive correction method has the potential to provide better streamflow forecast in the Zhanghe River catchment.

Interfacial potassium induced enhanced Raman spectroscopy for single-crystal TiO2 nanowhisker

Structural control and element doping are two popular strategies to produce semiconductors with surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS)*** TiO2 based SERS substrates,maintaining a good crystallinity is critical to achieve excellent Raman *** elevated temperatures(N600°C),the phase transition from anatase to rutile TiO2 could result in a poor SERS *** this work,we report the successful synthesis of TiO2 nanowhiskers with excellent SERS *** enhancement factor,an index of SERS performance,is 4.96×106 for methylene blue molecule detecting,with a detection sensitivity around 10-7 mol·***,such as XRD,Raman,TEM,UV–vis and Zeta potential measurement,have been performed to decrypt structural and chemical characteristics of the newly synthesized TiO2 *** photo absorption onset of MB adsorbed TiO2 nanowhiskers was similar to that of bare TiO2 *** addition,no new band was observed from the UV–vis of MB modified TiO2 *** results suggest that the high enhancement factor cannot be explained by the charge-transfer *** the support of ab initio density functional theory calculations,we reveal that interfacial potassium is critical to maintain thermal stability of the anatase phase up to 900°*** addition,the deposition of potassium results in a negatively charged TiO2 nanowhisker surface,which favors specific adsorption of methylene blue molecules and significantly improves SERS performance via the electrostatic adsorption effect.
