Although cholecystokinin octapeptide-8 is important for neurological function, its neuroprotective properties remain unclear. We speculated that cholecystokinin octapeptide-8 can protect human retinal pigment epithelial cells against oxidative injury. In this study, retinal pigment epithelial cells were treated with peroxynitrite to induce oxidative stress. Peroxynitrite triggered apoptosis in these cells, and increased the expression of Fas-associated death domain, Bax, caspase-8 and Bcl-2. These changes were suppressed by treatment with cholecystokinin octapeptide-8. These results suggest that cholecystokinin octapeptide-8 can protect human retinal pigment epithelial cells against apoptosis induced by peroxynitrite.

AIM:To invastigate intra-and interobserver reliability of interferometry,tear meniscus height(TMH)measurement and meibography(MBG)of an ocular surface analyzer,LacryDiag(Quantel Medical,France).METHODS:Five consecutive measurements and subsequent analysis of interferometry,TMH,and MBG were recorded by two examiners using the *** assess intra-and interobserver reliability,we used Cohen’s kappa for categorical variables(interferometry),or intraclass correlation coefficient for continuous variables(TMH,MBG).RESULTS:Thirty eyes of 30 examinees were *** both observers,there was excellent intraobserver reliability for MBG(0.955 and 0.970 for observer 1 and 2,respectively).Intraobserver reliability for observer 1 was substantial for interferometry(0.799),and excellent for TMH(0.863).Reliability for observer 2 was moderate for interferometry(0.535)and fair to good for TMH(0.431).Interobserver reliability was poor for interferometry(0.074)and fair to good for TMH(0.680)and MBG(0.414).CONCLUSION:LacryDiag ocular surface analyzer in our study proves to be a reliable noninvasive tool for the evaluation of TMH and *** for interferometry,poor interobserver reliability,fair to good intraobserver reliability for observer 1,and moderate for observer 2,leave room for improvement.

Objective:To explore the anesthetic effect of dexmedetomidine (Dex) in different doses in combined with propofol on the painless colonoscopy in the elder ***: A total of 60 elder patients who were admitted in our hospital from November 2016 to October 2017 for selective painless fiber colonoscopy were included in the study and divided into the low dose group and high dose group according to Dex dose. The micro-infusion pump was used to inject Dex 10 min before examination. The load capacity in the low dose group was 0.25 μg/kg, while in the high dose group was 0.75 μg/kg. The pump injection was completed within 10 min, then a continuous pump injection was performed in a speed of 0.5 μg/kg/h until the check off. After the completion of Dex pumping, propofol (1-1.5 mg/kg) was slowly injected. MAP, HR, and SpO2 before medication (T0), 5 min after inserting the endoscope (T1), and the time after the examination being finished (T2) were recorded, respectively. The bioelectrical impedance technique was used to continuously monitor SV, CO, and SVR. The awakening time, propofol dose, and discharge time were ***: The comparison of MAP, HR, and SpO2 at T0 between the two groups was not statistically significant. MAP, HR, SV, CO, and SVR at T1 and T2 were significantly lower than those at T0, while the comparison of SpO2 was not significantly changed. MAP at T1 in the high dose group was significantly higher than that in the low dose group, while HR at T1 and T2 was significantly lower than that in the low dose group. SV, CO, and SVR at T1 and T2 in the high dose group was significantly higher than those in the low dose group. The awakening time in the high dose group was significantly shorter than that in the low dose group, and the propofol dose was significantly less than that in the low dose group, while the comparison of discharge time was not significantly different. Background:To identify biometric and implantable collamer lens(ICL)-related risk factors associated with suboptimal postoperative vault in eyes implanted with phakic ***:This study reports a retrospective case series of the first operated eye in 360 patients implanted with myopic spherical or toric ***,white-to-white(WTW),central keratometry(Kc)and central corneal thickness(CCT)were measured using the ***-segment optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT,Visante)was applied preoperatively for measuring the horizontal anterior-chamber angle-to-angle distance(ATA),internal anterior chamber depth(ACD),crystalline lens rise(CLR),anterior-chamber angle(ACA)and postoperatively the *** were divided into three vault groups:low(LVG:≤250μm),optimal(OVG:>250 and<1000μm)and high(HVG:≥1000μm).Multinomial logistic regression(MLR)was used to find the sub-optimal vault ***:MLR showed that CLR,ICL size minus the ATA(ICL size-ATA),age,ICL spherical equivalent(ICLSE)and ICL size as contributing factors for sub-optimal vaults(pseudo-R2=0.40).Increased CLR(OR:1.01,CI:1.00-1.01)and less myopic ICLSE(OR:1.22,CI:1.07-1.40)were risk factors for low *** ICL size-ATA(OR:41.29,CI:10.57-161.22)and the 13.7mm ICL(OR:7.08,CI:3.16-15.89)were risk factors for high vaults,whereas less myopic ICLSE(OR:0.85,CI:0.76-0.95)and older age(OR:0.92,CI:0.88-0.98)were protective ***:High CLR and low ICLSE were the major risk factors in eyes presenting low *** the opposite direction,ICL size-ATA was the major contributor for high *** relationship was more critical in higher myopic ICLSE,younger eyes and when 13.7mm ICL were *** findings show that factors influencing the vault have differentiated weight of influence depending on the type of vault(low,optimal or high).

We describe the endoscopic-assisted rib harvesting technique for secondary rhinoplasty as minimum-invasive and safe harvesting ***-assisted rib harvesting was performed on 52 patients for revision rhinoplasty in last two years(2017-2019).Adequate amount of cartilage was obtained through 1-2 cm *** 30 degrees angled endoscope was used for vision ***-two patients underwent rhinoplasty with costal cartilage harvested using endoscopic-assisted *** length of the harvested cartilage blocks from the rib was 5±1.5 cm in *** were no associated intraoperative *** complications were less than by the conventional rib harvesting technique:in all cases,no signs of pneumothorax or excessive bleeding were detected after *** wound healed without significant scarring in 50(96%)*** patients(4%)showed hypertrophic scar *** pain was evaluated by using Visual Pain Analog Scale ***-eight patients(92%)scored 1.43±0.7 experienced no significant postoperative *** 4 patients(8%)scored 4.1±0.8 and complained of slight postoperative *** technique provides an effective and less-invasive alternative for conventional costal cartilage harvesting with reduced complications risk and extended *** benefit from an inconspicuous scar and reduced postoperative *** can be applied for revision and primary rhinoplasty and allows achieving reproducible aesthetically and functionally successful results with minimized risks.

Objective:Our aim was to assess the risk factors for non-surgery-related portal and mesenteric vein thrombosis(PMVT)and its impact on the outcomes of inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD).Methods:All patients with a concurrent diagnosis of IBD and PMVT between January 2004 and October 2013 were identified from the electronic medical record(study group;n=20).Patients were matched for age,sex,and IBD phenotype with control IBD patients who had no PMVT,with a ratio of 1:3(control group;n=60).Risk factors for PMVT and IBD-related outcomes at one year after diagnosis of PMVT were compared between the two ***:Of the 20 patients in the Study group,6(30%)had UC,14(70%)had CD and 11(55%)were *** multivariable analysis,inpatient status(odds ratio[OR]6.88;95%confidence interval[CI]1.88-25.12)and baseline corticosteroid use(OR 4.39;95%CI 1.27-15.19)were found to be independent risk factors for the development of *** one-year follow-up,PMVT patients were more likely to have an adverse outcome of IBD,including subsequent emergency room visit(26.3%vs.1.7%;P=0.003),hospitalization for medical management(60.0%vs.20.0%;P=0.001)or IBD-related surgery(65.0%vs.26.7%;P=0.003)than the non-PMVT *** multivariable analysis,PMVT(OR 5.19;95%CI 1.07-25.28)and inpatient status(OR 8.92;95%CI 1.33-59.84)were found to be independent risk factors for poor outcome,whereas baseline immunomodulator use(OR 0.07;95%CI 0.01-0.51)was found to be a protective ***:IBD patients who were inpatients or receiving corticosteroid therapy had an increased risk of the development of *** presence of PMVT was associated with poor clinical outcomes in IBD.
