Detection of Ca^(2+)-dependent acid phosphatase activity identifies neuronal integrity in damaged rat central nervous system after application of bacterial melanin

The study aims to confirm the neuroregenerative effects of bacterial melanin （BM） on central nervous system injury using a special staining method based on the detection of Ca^2＋-dependent acid phosphatase activity. Twenty-four rats were randomly assigned to undergo either unilateral destruction of sensorimotor cortex （group I; n = 12） or unilateral rubrospinal tract transection at the cervical level （C3-4）（group II; n = 12）. In each group, six rats were randomly selected after surgery to undergo intramuscular injection of BM solution （BM subgroup） and the remaining six rats were intramuscularly in）ected with saline （saline subgroup）. Neurological testing confirmed that BM accelerated the recovery of motor function in rats from both BM and saline subgroups. Two months after surgery, Ca^2＋-dependent acid phosphatase activity detection in combination with Chilingarian＇s calcium adenoside triphosphate method revealed that BM stimulated the sprouting of fibers and dilated the capillaries in the brain and spinal cord. These results suggest that BM can promote the recovery of motor function of rats with central nervous system injury; and detection of Ca^2＋-dependent acid phosphatase activity is a fast and easy method used to study the regeneration-promoting effects of BM on the injured central nervous system.

The strains ofLactobacillus delbrueckii subsp, lactis widely used in food preservation due to ability produce high amount of hydrogen peroxide at refrigerator temperatures to inhibit food-borne pathogens and psychrophilic spoilage microorganisms. In order to improve of bio-preservation efficacy ofL. delbrueckii MH 10 mutations causing resistance to streptomycin （str） were used. Among UV-mutagenized population of L. delbruecla＇i three str mutants producing high amounts of H2O2 were selected. Sir mutants produced significant amounts of hydrogen peroxide 50-60 μg/ml in sodium phosphate buffer （0.2 M, pH 6.5） and in beef broth （BB） at 5 ℃ for 5 days submerged cultivation without of growth. Evaluation mutants antibacterialactivity at refrigeration temperatures against food-borne pathogen Escherichia coli O157：H7 revealed elimination of pathogen total number up to practically undetectable amount for 3 days. In case of solid-state cultivation on agar-based medium, disks soaked by mutant cells suspensions formed larger inhibitory zones on E. coli O157：H7 lawn for one-day cold exposition. The size of inhibition zone depends on concentration of LAB cells. Str mutants L. delbrueckii reduced initial amount 2 - 105 of E. coil O 157：H7 in ground beef up to 3 log for 3 days of solid-state cocultivation when the wild strain reduced only 2 log. The application ofL. delbrueckii mutants did not cause any changes in sensory characteristics of ground beef, moreover promotes expanding of shelf-life due to inhibition of psychrophilic spoilage microorganisms.

In this paper, it studied parameters of low-temperature plasma (LTP) used in systems for cleaning waste gas. LTP created by positive nanosecond corona discharges, generated by high voltage pulses with a rise time of 50 ns, duration up to 400 ns, an amplitude up to 90 kV and pulses repetition 50 - 1000 Hz in coaxial electrode system with gap space 3 - 10 cm through which moving air with linear velocity v = 0.01 to 10 m/s. It was found that parameters of LTP depended on the flow velocity. The results of probe measurements of streamers current showed that on the above gaps and pulse parameters took place streamer breakdown with average field strength less than 10 kV/cm. This limits the energy input into the gas via a streamer corona and, accordingly, productivity of cleaning plants.

Infertility is a common condition experienced by many men and women, and treatments are expensive. The World Health Organization and American Society of Reproductive Medicine define infertility as a disease, yet private companies infrequently offer insurance coverage for infertility treatments. This is despite the clear role that healthcare insurance plays in ensuring access to care and minimizing the financial burden of expensive services. In this review, we assess the current knowledge of how male infertility care is covered by insurance in the United States. We begin with an appraisal of the costs of male infertility care, then examine the state insurance laws relevant to male infertility, and close with a discussion of why insurance coverage for male infertility is important to both men and women. Importantly, we found that despite infertility being classified as a disease and males contributing to almost half of all infertility cases, coverage for male infertility is often excluded from health insurance laws. Excluding coverage for male infertility places an undue burden on their female partners. In addition, excluding care for male infertility risks missing opportunities to diagnose important health conditions and identify reversible or irreversible causes of male infertility. Policymakers should consider providing equal coverage for male and female infertility care in future health insurance laws.

Vacuum-dielectric interface is the most vulnerable part of vacuum insulation systems where surface electrical breakdown is prone to happen,hence severely restricts the development of advanced electro-vacuum devices with large capacity and its ***,a direct and effective way to improve vacuum surface insulation is to alleviate the initiation and development of multipactor *** by this approach,the authors report a 3D-printed insulation structure designed with a millimetrescale surface cavity covered by periodic through-pore array via stereolithography,exhibiting remarkable multipactor suppression and flashover threshold improvement,well outperforming the conventional flashover mitigation *** and simulations demonstrate that electrons in the multipactor region pass through-pores and are unlikely to escape from the cavity,hence no longer participate in the above-surface multipactor process,and eventually improve flashover *** proposed approach provides new inspiration for the design of advanced insulators featuring ultrahigh electrical withstanding capability and brings up new insight into pertinent industrial applications.

Sediment deposition in the pumping station has a huge negative impact on unit *** three-dimensional CFD method has been used to simulate inlet structure flow in pumping station based on the Eulerian solid- liquid two-phase flow model. The numerical results of the preliminary scheme show that sediment deposition occurs in the forebay of pumping station because of poor flow pattern therein. In order to improve hydraulic configuration in the forebay,one modified measure reconstructs water diversion weir shape,and another measure sets a water retaining sill in the approach channel. The simulation results of the modified scheme prove that back flow in the forebay has been eliminated and the sediment deposition region has also been reduced.

The aim of the work was the assessment of capability for the change control in the structure of a compact material of pelletized heatproof nickel alloy grade EP741NP using the atomic emission method. The proposed method of evaluation is based on the statistical significance of the analytical response differences during atomic emission spectroscopy of solid specimens taken from one sample before and after heat treatment using the instruments AtomComp 81 and ARL 4460 with a high-voltage spark excitation. For calculations, the ratio of the line intensity of the analyzed element to the line intensity of the main sample component (in our case Ni2254) was used. The difference confidence estimation was made by the averages comparison method in a variance analysis. The study results are presented on the effect of material structure on analytical response during atomic emission spectroscopy of solid specimens. It was proved that the samples before and after heat treatment give statistically differing results while analyzed.
