Multi-technique analysis of an ancient stratified glass eye bead by OCT, μ-XRF, and μ-Raman spectroscopy

In this Letter, we report a combination of non-invasive analysis of the cross-section structure, phase, and chemical composition combining optical coherence tomography(OCT) with spectroscopic methods such as X-ray analytical microscope(μ-XRF) and micro-Raman spectroscopy(μ-RS), which allow us to effectively and conveniently identify the colorants used for each color region and the glass-making process of an ancient multicolored stratified glass eye bead. The results reveal that the sophisticated colors of the glass bead arise from the transition metals and chemical compound crystals deliberately added in the same base glass and carefully adjusted by the glass maker to obtain four colors. We also propose and discuss the provenance of the glass *** was probably introduced to China through the Northern Silk Road from Egypt or the Eastern mediterranean areas about 1400 years ago. The combined multi-analytical technique is the promising approach for precious cultural heritage research.

mediterranean Spotted Fever Complicated with Thrombosis of the Left Central Retinal Vein: A Case Report and Literature Review

We describe a case of mediterranean spotted fever complicated with thrombosis of the left central retinal vein. A 41-year-old woman patient living in the city Scodra was referred to our hospital in October 2017 for high fever 40°C, muscular and articular pains, severe headache, maculopapular rash, chills, photophobia and visual loss in his left eye. Ocular examination showed vision acuity: OD 8/10, OS 2/10. Funduscopic examination complemented with fluorescein angiography showed: optic nerve papilla with clear contours, diffuse hemorrhages in the contest off retinal vein thrombosis, white retinal lesions, vascular sheathing and macular cystoids edema. R. conorii antibodies were identified by ELISA anti Rickettsia conorii IgM, IgG and Weil-Felix Ox-19 test. Investigation of other infective agents and the immunological panel were negative. After treatment with doxycycline 200 mg/day for 10 days vision acuity was OD: 8/10 OS: 6/10;FO: There are less hemorrhages in fluorescein angiograph and OCT showed a reduced macular cystoids edema. mediterranean spotted fever should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a patient who presents with an acute febrile disease accompanied by maculopapular rash especially in the seasons of spring, summer or autumn.

PURPOSE:An association between hypermetropia and hypertension was recently *** sought to verify this finding in the Blue Mountains eye Study cohort(n=3654;ages 49 to 97 years).DESIGN:Cohort ***:We defined hypermetropia as mean spheric equivalent refraction(SER)>1.00 diopter,myopia as mean SER emmetropia as mean SER ≤ 1.00 diopters and emmetropia was 1.06(95% CI,0.89 to 1.26);the relative risk in persons with myopia was 1.22(95% CI,0.96 to 1.56).CONCLUSION:Neither hypermetropia nor myopia was associated with incident hypertension in this older population.

Objective:To investigate biometrics of Dipturus oxyrinchus(***),including length-weight relationships,total length(TL),disc width(DW),distance measured of snout tip to eye,width of the mouth,distance from snout tip to first dorsal,and the numeric characters in the Gulf of ***:Monthly sampling was conducted commercial bottom-trawl during December 2006 and January 2007,operating at a depth of 80-185 *** TL,DW,distance of snout tip to eye,width of the mouth,distance from snout tip to first dorsal were measured to the nearest 0.1 cm and the weight was measured to the nearest 0.1 *** parameters a and b were estimated by the least squares regression ***:A total of 520 *** was ranged from 16.5 to 105.0 cm in TL and 30-5300 g in total mass were analyzed during this *** overall sex ratio was significantly different from the expected value of 1:16(df=1,χ^(2)=3.38,P<0.05),and there was significant difference in the TL(t-test=16.53,df=520,P<0.05).There was significant difference in the regression slopes between sexes for the TL and DW relationship(t-test=17.53,df=520,P<0.05).The b value for the TL/weight relationship for males *** sampled in this study(3.01)was lower than that for female(3.23).Morphometric characters were strongly positively correlated for ***:This study reported the first description of biometric relationships for ***,which would be useful for the sustainable conservation of this rear fishery in the Gulf of Gabes and also form the basis for their inclusion in a regional security programme.

AIM：To assess the proportion of refractive errors in the Mexican population that visited primary care optometry clinics in fourteen states of Mexico. METHODS：Refractive data from 676 856 patients aged 6 to 90 y were collected from optometry clinics in fourteen states of Mexico between 2014 and 2015. The refractive errors were classified by the spherical equivalent（SE）, as follows：sphere＋？ cylinder. Myopia（SE〉-0.50 D）, hyperopia（SE〉＋0.50 D）, emmetropia（-0.50≤SE≤＋0.50）, and astigmatism alone（cylinder≥-0.25 D）. A negative cylinder was selected as a ***：The proportion（95% confidence interval） among all of the subjects was hyperopia 21.0%（20.9-21.0）, emmetropia 40.7%（40.5-40.8）, myopia 24.8%（24.7-24.9） and astigmatism alone 13.5%（13.4-13.5）. Myopia was the most common refractive error and frequency seemed to increase among the young population（10 to 29 years old）, however, hyperopia increased among the aging population（40 to 79 years old）, and astigmatism alone showed a decreasing trend with age（6 to 90y; from 19.7% to 10.8%）. There was a relationship between age and all refractive errors（approximately 60%, aged 50 and older）. The proportion of any clinically important refractive error was higher in males（61.2%） than in females（58.3%; P〈0.0001）. From fourteen states that collected information, the proportion of refractive error showed variability in different geographical areas of ***：Myopia is the most common refractive error in the population studied. This study provides the first data on refractive error in Mexico. Further programs and studies must be developed to address the refractive errors needs of the Mexican population.
