Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt)toxins are effective in controlling insect pests either through the spraying of products or when expressed in transgenic *** discovery of endophytic Bt strains opened new perspectives for studies aimed at the control of sap‐sucking insects,such as the Asian citrus psyllid Diaphorina citri Kuwayama(Hemiptera:Liviidae),a vector of“Candidatus Liberibacter spp.,”associated with citrus huanglongbing(HLB).In this study,translocation of endophytic Bt strains in citrus seedlings inoculated with Bt suspension delivered by soil‐drench,and their systemic pathogenicity to *** nymphs were *** pathogenicity of three wild‐type Bt strains against *** third‐instar nymphs was *** the 10 recombinant strains tested(each of them harboring a single cry or cyt gene),3 can be highlighted,causing 42%–77%and 66%–90%nymphal mortality at 2 and 5 d after inoculation,*** isolation of Bt cells from young citrus shoots and dead nymphs,and PCR performed with specific primers,confirmed the involvement of the Bt strains in the psyllid *** is the first report showing the translocation of Bt strains from citrus seedling roots to shoots and their potential to control *** nymphs that fed on these soil‐drench inoculated *** Bt strains that caused the highest mortality rates have the potential to be used as bioinsecticides to control *** and the identified genes can be used for the production of transgenic Bt citrus.

Developments in Land Use and Land Cover Classification Techniques in Remote Sensing: A Review

Studies on land use and land cover changes (LULCC) have been a great concern due to their contribution to the policies formulation and strategic plans in different areas and at different scales. The LULCC when intense and on a global scale can be catastrophic if not detected and monitored affecting the key aspects of the ecosystem’s functions. For decades, technological developments and tools of geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing (RS) and machine learning (ML) since data acquisition, processing and results in diffusion have been investigated to access landscape conditions and hence, different land use and land cover classification systems have been performed at different levels. Providing coherent guidelines, based on literature review, to examine, evaluate and spread such conditions could be a rich contribution. Therefore, hundreds of relevant studies available in different databases (Science Direct, Scopus, Google Scholar) demonstrating advances achieved in local, regional and global land cover classification products at different spatial, spectral and temporal resolutions over the past decades were selected and investigated. This article aims to show the main tools, data, approaches applied for analysis, assessment, mapping and monitoring of LULCC and to investigate some associated challenges and limitations that may influence the performance of future works, through a progressive perspective. Based on this study, despite the advances archived in recent decades, issues related to multi-source, multi-temporal and multi-level analysis, robustness and quality, scalability need to be further studied as they constitute some of the main challenges for remote sensing.

Arachis retusa Krapov. et W. C. Gregory et Valls is endemic in the West-central region of Brazil, occurring In areas endangered by human actions. The establishment of in vitro preservation methods for wild species of Arachis is an alternative to seed banks for germplasm storage, multiplication and distribution. The risk of genetic changes Induced by tissue culture and the monitoring of the genetic stability of the biological material before, during and after storage must be considered In the context of conservation. Random amplified polymorphlc ONA （RAPO） and amplified fragment length polymorphism （AFLP） fingerprinting were used to evaluate the genetic stability of in vitro plants originated from cotyledons and embryo axes of A. retusa. Cotyledons originated shoots through direct organogenesls and embryo axes displayed muItishoot formation Induced by 110 mmol/L and 8.8 mmol/L BAP, respectively. Ninety genomlc regions （loci） generated from RAPO and 372 from AFLP analyses were evaluated. All amplified fragments detected by both techniques in plants derived from the two explant types were monomorphic. The results Indicate that the recovered shoots are genetically stable at the assessed genomic regions.

Previous research has explored the potential to integrate lidar and optical data in aboveground biomass(AGB)estimation,but how different data sources,vegetation types,and modeling algorithms influence AGB estimation is poorly *** research conducts a comparative analysis of different data sources and modeling approaches in improving AGB ***-based spectral responses and textures,lidar-derived metrics,and their combination were used to develop AGB estimation *** results indicated that(1)overall,RapidEye data are not suitable for AGB estimation,but when AGB falls within 50–150 Mg/ha,support vector regression based on stratification of vegetation types provided good AGB estimation;(2)Lidar data provided stable and better estimations than RapidEye data;and stratification of vegetation types cannot improve estimation;(3)The combination of lidar and RapidEye data cannot provide better performance than lidar data alone;(4)AGB ranges affect the selection of the best AGB models,and a combination of different estimation results from the best model for each AGB range can improve AGB estimation;(5)This research implies that an optimal procedure for AGB estimation for a specific study exists,depending on the careful selection of data sources,modeling algorithms,forest types,and AGB ranges.

Water Quality and agricultural Sustainability in the Mantiqueira Ecological Corridor,Brazil

The presence of fecal coliforms is one of the determinants for classification of the quality of water bodies. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the water quality and surrounding land use in the area known as the Mantiqueira Ecological Corridor, which straddles the borders of the states of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, in Brazil. More particularly, we studied ten municipalities in Minas Gerais located in the region surrounding Serra do Papagaio State Park and Ibitipoca State Park. We established a classification of water bodies in the area surrounding the collection points in drainage basins based on the principles of sustainability. Using TM/Landsat 5 images, SPOTMap mosaics and the SRTM digital elevation model, we correlated land use classes with the environmental contamination index and topographic characteristics of the area studied. The presence of agriculture and urban areas heightened the differences in water quality classification in the comparison between the dry and rainy seasons, while in forested areas there was a greater equilibrium, with the same classification between the two seasons.

Mapping fractional landscape soils and vegetation components from Hyperion satellite imagery using an unsupervised machinelearning workflow

An unsupervised machine-learning workflow is proposed for estimating fractional landscape soils and vegetation components from remotely sensed hyperspectral *** workflow is applied to EO-1 Hyperion satellite imagery collected near Ibirací,Minas Gerais,*** proposed workflow includes subset feature selection,learning,and estimation *** training with landscape feature class realizations provide a hypersurface from which to estimate mixtures of soil(e.g.0.5 exceedance for pixels:75%clay-rich Nitisols,15%iron-rich Latosols,and 1%quartz-rich Arenosols)and vegetation(e.g.0.5 exceedance for pixels:4%Aspen-like trees,7%Blackberry-like trees,0%live grass,and 2%dead grass).The process correctly maps forests and iron-rich Latosols as being coincident with existing drainages,and correctly classifies the clay-rich Nitisols and grasses on the intervening *** classifications are independently corroborated visually(Google Earth)and quantitatively(random soil samples and crossplots of field spectra).Some mapping challenges are the underestimation of forest fractions and overestimation of soil fractions where steep valley shadows exist,and the under representation of classified grass in some dry areas of the Hyperion *** preliminary results provide impetus for future hyperspectral studies involving airborne and satellite sensors with higher signal-to-noise and smaller footprints.

Impact of Varying Light and Dew on Ground Cover Estimates from Active NDVI,RGB,and LiDAR

Canopy ground cover(GC)is an important agronomic measure for evaluating crop establishment and early *** study evaluates the reliability of GC estimates,in the presence of varying light and dew on leaves,from three different ground-based sensors:(1)normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)from the commercially available GreenSeeker®;(2)RGB images from a digital camera,where GC was determined as the portion of pixels from each image meeting a greenness criterion(i.e.,ðGreen−RedÞ/ðGreen+RedÞ>0);and(3)LiDAR using two separate approaches:(a)GC from LiDAR red reflectance(whereby red reflectance less than five was classified as vegetation)and(b)GC from LiDAR height(whereby height greater than 10 cm was classified as vegetation).Hourly measurements were made early in the season at two different growth stages(tillering and stem elongation),among wheat genotypes highly diverse for canopy *** active NDVI showed the least variation through time and was particularly stable,regardless of the available light or the presence of *** addition,between-sample-time Pearson correlations for NDVI were consistently high and significant(P<0:0001),ranging from 0.89 to *** comparison,GC from LiDAR and RGB showed greater variation across sampling times,and LiDAR red reflectance was strongly influenced by the presence of *** times when the light was exceedingly low,correlations between GC from RGB and NDVI were consistently high(ranging from 0.79 to 0.92).The high reliability of the active NDVI sensor potentially affords a high degree of flexibility for users by enabling sampling across a broad range of acceptable light conditions.

Landscape changes have caused the decline of biodiversity and affected the integrity of aquatic *** this study,we assessed the influence of industrialization associated with urban development on aquatic environments and the biodiversity of semiaquatic bugs(Gerromorpha)at different scales(water quality,habitat,and landscape).Using the simple buffer method,we evaluated nine streams assessing water quality variables,habitat structure,and linear features(radius¼300 m,length¼600 m)for the percentage of land use and land *** results found that species composition of Gerromorpha was mainly affected by primary forest cover,habitat integrity,leaves substrate,and water temperature(29%explanation),and the species richness was mostly influenced by the habitat integrity index(HII)and phosphorus *** model that best explained the variation in species richness showed a positive relationship with phosphorus concentrations and HII(43%variation).Therefore,our results show that those human activities are the main factors altering aquatic biodiversity from local to regional ***,the retention of riparian forests–even in urban and industrialized areas–can maintain the diversity of semiaquatic insect species by providing suitable environments for the habitat,feeding,and reproductive requirements of these aquatic ***,our results also show that the management of riparian vegetation in urban areas and industrial complexes promotes aquatic biodiversity conservation in regions under development in the Amazon.

The advance of agricultural frontiers and industrialization in Amazonia has increased natural resource deterioration,resulting in degraded physical habitat structure and reduced local aquatic *** evaluated the relative sensitivities of the Biological Monitoring Working Party(BMWP)and Average Score Per Taxon(ASPT)biotic indexes based on EPT(Ephemeroptera,Plecoptera,Trichoptera)versus EPT taxa richness,EPT abundance,and Shannon-Wiener EPT diversity for evaluating anthropogenic impacts on Amazonian *** expected that EPT-BMWP and EPT-ASPT would be more sensitive in detecting environmental changes on stream biota than the other *** sampled 32 stream sites in eastern Amazonia distributed along an environmental gradient resulting from different land use *** the biological metrics except EPT-ASPT were significantly responsive to anthropogenic pressures;however,EPT taxa richness was slightly more responsive.

digital Micrometer Used in Thickness Measurement of Plastic Film Compared to Standardized Instrument

Different types of plastic films are used in agriculture to cover silos storing silage. The most important characteristics of a tarpaulin for sealing the silage are: thickness, color and polymer used in the manufacture of the film. The objective of this study is to measure and compare the thickness, the use of two instruments (digital micrometer and digital thickness gauge) in plastic films (polyethylene, polyester and polyester/vinyl). This methodological analysis for the use of micrometer digital, for future use (Agronomy and Veterinary sciences). In comparison the thickness of the three factors. 5% by Tukey test revealed that for polyethylene, there was no significant difference between factors. This methodology is satisfactory for the types of films and range of thicknesses studied.
