Bioactive thermal spray coatings produced via high-velocity oxygen fuel spray(HVOF)from hydroxyapatite(HAp)and bioactive glasses(BG)have the potential to be employed on temporary implants due to the ability of both HAp and BG to dissolve and promote osseointegration,considering that both phases have different reaction and dissolution rates under in-vitro *** the present work,75%***-25%wt.s53p4 bioactive glass powders were HVOF-sprayed to obtain HAp/s53p4 BG composite coatings on a bioresorbable AZ31 *** study is focused on exploring the effect of the stand-off distance and fuel/oxygen ratio variation as HVOF parameters to obtain stable structural coatings and to establish their effect on the phases and microstructure produced in those *** characterization techniques,such as scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,were employed to characterize relevant structural and microstructural properties of the composite *** results showed that thermal gradients during coating deposition must be managed to avoid delamination due to the high temperature achieved(max 550℃)and the differences in coefficients of thermal *** was also found that both spraying distance and oxygen/fuel ratio allowed to keep the hydroxyapatite as the main phase in the *** addition,in-vitro electrochemical studies were performed on the obtained HAp/s53p4 BG composite coatings and compared against the uncoated AZ31 *** results showed a significant decrease in hydrogen evolution(at least 98%)when the bioactive coating was applied on the Mg alloy during evaluation in simulated body fluid(sBF).

suspended graphene is exposed to different fluorine-containing species produced by a plasma source fed with cF4 precursor gas. We investigate the fluorination process by selecting two different kinetic energies for the ions striking the graphene surface. The chemical-bonding environment is discussed, and the control of the graphene-fluorination homogeneity is investigated at the individual graphene sheets. The modifications of the electronic and structural properties are examined by scanning photoelectron microscopy, micro-Raman analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The results are compared with those obtained for supported graphene on copper. suspended graphene provides a quasi-ideal model for investigating the intrinsic properties of irradiated carbon nano-systems while avoiding damage due to backscattered atoms and recoil due to a supporting substrate.

This work reports the growth and characterization of p-AlInN layers doped with Mg by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy(pAMBE).AlInN was grown with an Al molar fraction of 0.80 by metal-modulated epitaxy(MME)with a thickness of 180 nm on si(111)substrates using AlN as buffer *** substrate temperatures were used to enhance the incorporation of indium atoms into the alloy without clustering,as confirmed by X-ray diffraction(XRD).cathodoluminescence measurements revealed ultraviolet(UV)range ***,Hall effect measurements indicated a maximum hole mobility of 146 cm^(2)/(V∙s),corresponding to a free hole concentration of 1.23×10^(19)cm^(−3).The samples were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(Xps)estimating the alloy composition and extracting the Fermi level by valence band ***-doped AlInN layers were studied for use as the electron-blocking layer(EBL)in LED *** varied the Al composition in the EBL from 0.84 to 0.96 molar fraction to assess its theoretical effects on electroluminescence,carrier concentration,and electric field,using sILVAcO *** results from this study highlight the importance and capability of producing high-quality Mg-doped p-AlInN layers through *** simulations suggest that an Al content of 0.86 is optimal for achieving desired outcomes in electroluminescence,carrier concentration,and electric field.

contactless monitoring with photoelectron microspectroscopy of the surface potential along individual nano-structures,created by the X-ray nanoprobe,opens exciting possibilities to examine quantitatively size-and surface-chemistry-effects on the electrical transport of semiconductor nanowires(NWs).Implementing this novel approach-which combines surface chemical microanalysis with conductivity measurements-we explored the dependence of the electrical properties of undoped GaAs NWs on the NW width,temperature and surface *** following the evolution of the Ga 3d and As 3d core level spectra,we measured the position-dependent surface potential along the GaAs NWs as a function of NW diameter,decreasing from 120 to~20 nm,and correlated the observed decrease of the conductivity with the monotonic reduction in the NW diameter from 120 to~20 *** of the GaAs NWs to oxygen ambient leads to a decrease in their conductivity by up to a factor of 10,attributed to the significant decrease in the carrier density associated with the formation of an oxide shell.

A cFD Model to Evaluate Near-surface Oil spill from a Broken Loading pipe in shallow coastal Waters

Oil spills continue to generate various issues and concerns regarding their effect and behavior in the marine environment,owing to the related potential for detrimental environmental,economic and social *** is essential to have a solid understanding of the ways in which oil interacts with the water and the coastal ecosystems that are located *** study proposes a simplified model for predicting the plume-like transport behavior of heavy Bunker c fuel oil discharging downward from an acutely-angled broken pipeline located on the water *** results show that the spill overall profile is articulated in three major flow *** first,is the source field,i.e.,a region near the origin of the initial jet,followed by the intermediate or transport field,namely,the region where the jet oil flow transitions into an underwater oil plume flow and starts to move horizontally,and finally,the far-field,where the oil re-surface and spreads onto the shore at a significant distance from the spill *** behavior of the oil in the intermediate field is investigated using a simplified injection-type oil spill model capable of mimicking the undersea trapping and lateral migration of an oil plume originating from a negatively buoyant jet spill.A rectangular domain with proper boundary conditions is used to implement the *** projection approach is used to discretize a modified version of the Navier-stokes equations in two dimensions.A benchmark fluid flow issue is used to verify the model and the results indicate a reasonable relationship between specific gravity and depth as well as agreement with the aerial data and a vertical temperature profile plot.

size contrast of pt nanoparticles formed on neighboring domains within suspended and supported graphene

The relatively small size of thin （one or few layers） graphene flakes makes it extremely difficult to study the behavior of suspended graphene by characterization techniques other than the electron microscopies. Herein, we exploited the capability of spatially resolved photoemission in combination with high resolution transmission electron microscopy to investigate the interaction of thermally evaporated pt atoms on suspended and supported graphene. spectroscopic and microscopic analyses reveal that the nucleation of nanometer- sized pt particles in these two regions exhibit different trends. While only small nanometer-sized islands are present on the supported graphene, relatively larger clusters of islands were also found on the suspended flakes. The X-ray photoemission c ls core levels acquired after the pt deposition show an increase in the number of vacancies in the graphene sheets.

A composite material comprising a carbon layer and spherical carbon/carbon cloth(c-sc/cc)was fabricated using a hydrothermal-pyrolysis method,employing carbon cloth as the substrate and glucose as the carbon *** c-sc/cc electrode was evaluated as an electrocatalytic electrode for hydrogen production by electrolysis of Bunsen reaction *** electrode prepared with 4 g of glucose and annealed at 800°c showed excellent electrocatalytic *** requires only a potential of 185 mV(***)to achieve a current density of 10 mA/***,the electrode demonstrated good stability with a 6%loss in current density after 1000 cycles of scanning from 0.2 V to 1.2 *** results indicate the potential of the sc/cc electrode as an efficient and durable electrocatalyst for the electrolysis of H2sO4 and HI.
