Identification of the non-stationarity of extreme temperature events and teleconnections with solar activity and large-scale atmospheric circulation: A case study in the Yangtze River Economic Belt

In recent decades， extreme climate events have become a major problem worldwide. To understand the uncertainty in the response of extreme events to global warming， regional assessments are required for various climatic and geographic regions. The spatiotemporal distribution of extreme temperature events in the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB) from 1960 to 2019， including interannual changes and their teleconnections with solar activity and large-scale atmospheric circulation， were analyzed using eight indices of extreme temperature events. Over the past six decades， the climate in the YREB region has seen a warming trend， characterized by an increase in extreme warm events and a decrease in extreme cold events. The extreme temperature indices exhibit strong spatial variability. The warm extremes display a significant upward trend across the YREB， while cold extremes are primarily concentrated in the western part of the region. In recent decades， both warm and cold extremes have significant interannual variations， and these events predominantly oscillate over periods of less than four years. After 1985， the relationship between el Ni?o-Southern Oscillation (ENSO)， Arctic Oscillation (AO)， Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) and extreme temperature events has changed significantly compared with pre-1985， and the direction of the phase angle can determine the positive and negative effects of the two time-series. ENSO， AO and PDO mainly have positive impacts on extreme temperature events， with ENSO and AO exerting greater impacts than PDO. In contrast， solar activity mainly has a negative impact on these events. Furthermore， the notable interdecadal changes in extreme temperature events， especially warm extremes， may be caused by the shift in the PDO phase. Therefore， the results of the study are important for the YREB region to take effective measures to mitigate the potential impacts of human activities on regional warming.

Sex pheromones are considered to play critical roles in partner communication of most parasitic ***,the identification of sex pheromone components remains limited to a few families of parasitoid *** this study,we functionally characterized a candidate sex pheromone component in Microplitis mediator(Hymenoptera:Braconidae),a solitary parasitoid of Noctuidae *** found that the body surface extract from female wasps could significantly stimulate courtship behavior of *** chromatography-electroantennographic detection(GC-EAD)analysis revealed that a candidate semiochemical from extract triggered significant electrophysiological response of antennae of *** performing gas chromatography-mass spectrometer(GC-MS)measurement,GC-EAD active compound was identified as n-octyl acrylate,a candidate sex pheromone component in female *** electroantennogram(EAG)tests,antennae of male wasps showed significantly higher electrophysiological responses to n-octyl acrylate than those of females.Y-tube olfactometer assays indicated that male wasps significantly chose n-octyl acrylate compared with the ***,male wasps showed a remarkable preference for n-octyl acrylate in a simulated field condition behavioral trial;simultaneously,n-octyl acrylate standard could also trigger significant courtship behavior in *** propose that n-octyl acrylate,as a candidate vital sex pheromone component,could be utilized to design behavioral regulators of *** to implement the protection and utilization of natural enemies.

A stability evaluation method for deep-seated toppling in the upper Lancang river,Southwestern China

Deep-seated toppling in the upper reaches of the Lancang River,southwest China involves deformations exceeding 100 m in *** slope deformation is initiated by river downcutting and evolves distinctive characteristics with a depth of river *** this study,we propose a system for evaluating the stability of deep-seated toppled slopes in different evolutionary *** system contains identification criteria for each evolutionary stage and provides the corresponding stability evaluation *** on the mechanical and kinematic analysis of slope blocks,the specific stage of slope movement can be identified in the field through outcrop mapping,in situ tests,surface displacement monitoring,and adit and borehole *** stability evaluation methods are established based on the limiting equilibrium theory and the strain compatibility between the undisturbed zone and the toppled ***,several sample slopes in different evolution stages have been investigated to verify the applicability and accuracy of the proposed stability evaluation *** results indicate that intense tectonic activity and rapid river incision lead to a maximum principal stress ratio exceeding 10 near the slope surface,thus triggering widespread toppling deformations along the river *** considering the losses of joint cohesion during the further rotation process,the safety factor of the slope drops by 7%e28%.The self-stabilization of toppling deformation can be recognized by the layer symmetry configuration after the free rotation of the deflected *** toppled rock blocks mainly suffer sliding failures beyond the layer symmetry *** factor of safety of the K73 rockslide decreased from 1.17 to 0.87 by considering the development of the potential sliding surface and the toesaturated zone.

A new monitoring index for ecological vulnerability and its application in the Yellow River Basin,China from 2000 to 2022

The ecological environment of the Yellow River Basin has become more fragile under the combined action of natural and manmade ***,the change mechanisms of ecological vulnerability in different sub-regions and periods vary,and the reasons for this variability are yet to be ***,in this study,we proposed a new remote sensing ecological vulnerability index by considering moisture,heat,greenness,dryness,land degradation,and social economy indicators and then analyzed and disclosed the spatial and temporal change patterns of ecological vulnerability of the Yellow River Basin,China from 2000 to 2022 and its driving *** results showed that the newly proposed remote sensing ecological vulnerability index had a high accuracy,at 86.36%,which indicated a higher applicability in the Yellow River *** 2000 to 2022,the average remote sensing ecological vulnerability index of the Yellow River Basin was 1.03,denoting moderate vulnerability *** intensive vulnerability area was the most widely distributed,which was mostly located in the northern part of Shaanxi Province and the eastern part of Shanxi *** 2000 to 2022,the ecological vulnerability in the Yellow showed an overall stable trend,while that of the central and eastern regions showed an obvious trend of *** gravity center of ecological vulnerability migrated southwest,indicating that the aggravation of ecological vulnerability in the southwestern regions was more severe than in the northeastern regions of the *** dominant single factor of changes in ecological vulnerability shifted from normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)to temperature from 2000 to 2022,and the interaction factors shifted from temperature∩NDVI to temperature∩precipitation,which indicated that the global climate change exerted a more significant impact on regional *** above results could provide decision support for the ecological protection and restoration of the Y

Spatial-temporal differentiation and influencing factors of rural settlements in mountainous areas: an example of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Southwestern China

Rural settlement is the basic spatial unit for compact communities in rural area. Scientific exploration of spatial-temporal differentiation and its influencing factors is the premise of spatial layout rationalization. Based on land use data of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture(hereinafter referred to as Liangshan Prefecture) in Sichuan Province, China from 1980 to 2020, compactness index, fractal dimension, imbalance index, location entropy and the optimal parameters-based geographical detector(OPGD) model are used to analyze the spatial-temporal evolution of the morphological characteristics of rural settlements, and to explore the influence of natural geographical factors, socioeconomic factors, and policy factors on the spatial differentiation of rural settlements. The results show that:(1) From 1980 to 2020, the rural settlements area in Liangshan Prefecture increased by 15.96 km^(2). In space, the rural settlements are generally distributed in a local aggregation, dense in the middle and sparse around the periphery. In 2015, the spatial density and expansion index of rural settlements reached the peak.(2) From 1980 to 2020, the compactness index decreased from 0.7636 to 0.7496, the fractal dimension increased from 1.0283 to 1.0314, and the fragmentation index decreased from 0.1183 to 0.1047. The spatial morphological structure of rural settlements tended to be loose, the shape contour tended to be complex, the degree of fragmentation decreased, and the spatial distribution was significantly imbalanced.(3) The results of OPGD detection in 2015 show that the influence of each factor is slope(0.2371) > traffic accessibility(0.2098) > population(0.1403) > regional GDP(0.1325) > elevation(0.0987) > poverty alleviation(0). The results of OPGD detection in 2020 show that the influence of each factor is slope(0.2339) > traffic accessibility(0.2198) > population(0.1432) > regional GDP(0.1219) > poverty alleviation(0.0992) > elevation(0.093). Impacts of Aggregation Methods and Trophospecies Number on the Structure and Function of Marine Food Webs

Aggregation of species with similar ecological properties is one of the effective methods to simplify food web ***,species aggregation will affect not only the complexity of modeling process but also the accuracy of models’*** of aggregation methods and the number of trophospecies are the keys to study the simplification of food *** this study,three aggregation methods,including taxonomic aggregation(TA),structural equivalence aggregation(SEA),and self-organizing maps(SOM),were analyzed and compared with the linear inverse model–Markov Chain Monte Carlo(LIM-MCMC)*** of aggregation methods and trophospecies number on food webs were evaluated based on the robustness and unitless of ecological net-work *** showed that aggregation method of SEA performed better than the other two methods in estimating food web structure and function *** effects of aggregation methods were driven by the differences in species aggregation principles,which will alter food web structure and function through the redistribution of energy *** to the results of mean absolute percentage error(MAPE)which can be applied to evaluate the accuracy of the model,we found that MAPE in food web indices will increase with the reducing trophospecies number,and MAPE in food web function indices were smaller and more stable than those in food web structure ***,trade-off between simplifying food webs and reflecting the status of ecosystem should be con-sidered in food web *** findings highlight the importance of aggregation methods and trophospecies number in the analy-sis of food web *** study provided a framework to explore the extent to which food web models are affected by dif-ferent species aggregation,and will provide scientific basis for the construction of food webs.

Postnatal Total Serum Protein Concentration Influences the Health and Growth Parameters of Preweaned Female Holstein Friesian Calves

This study focuses on the effect of the total serum protein(TSP)concentrations at 3 days after birth on the health and growth parameters of preweaned female Holstein Friesian calves.A total of 165 female calves were enrolled and evaluated for morbidity which included diarrhea(D),respiratory disease(Rd)and omphalitis(O).Also,calves with more than one disorder in the same time were recorded as *** weight(BW)was determined at birth,30 and 60 days of *** samples were taken at 3 days after birth and TSP was determined using a digital Brix *** statistical analysis all female calves based on TSP concentration were grouped into 3 categories:1-TSP≥6.2 g/dL,2-TSP 5.8-6.1 g/dL,and 3-TSPely,in calves with one disorder and 6.06%in calves with D+Rd,3.64%in calves with Rd+O,3.03%in calves with O+D,and 3.64%in calves with D+Rd+*** the TSP concentration in calves decreased from≥6.2 g/dL toely(OR 6.28,95%CI 2.91-13.5,p valueellent immunity(category 1-TSP≥6.2 g/dL).Also BW and average daily gain(ADG)at 30 and 62 days of life decreased as TSP concentrations *** female calves with TSP≥6.2 g/dL at 3 days of life had the greatest BW at 30 and 62 days of age(51.8 kg and 77.1 kg respectively)compared with female calves with TSPely).Moreover,starter feed intake during the first 30 days of life,31 to 62 days of life and 1 to 62 days of life was greater in female calves with excellent immunity(TSP≥6.2 g/dL)than female calves with good immunity(TSP 5.8-6.1 g/dL)o

Atmospheric iron deposition in a megacity of northwest China:Solubility,speciation,and deposition fluxes

Atmospheric iron has crucial effects on biogeochemical cycles,atmospheric processing,global climate,and human *** this study,atmospheric dustfall samples were collected from six functional areas in Xi'an,China,from 2020 to *** spatiotemporal distributions and deposition fluxes of total and water-soluble(ws)Fe as well as the speciation and potential sources of ws-Fe were *** areas had the highest concentrations of total Fe and ws-Fe,which were mainly due to copious emissions of heavy metals during *** total Fe concentrations peaked in spring,primarily due to the substantial input of crustal dust,which also led to the lowest Fe solubility in this *** contrast,the highest levels of ws-Fe occurred during winter due to an increase in biomass *** the water-soluble forms,ws-Fe(II)was dominant and accounted for 74.8%of the total amount of *** dust was the main contributor to total Fe,whereas biomass burning primarily contributed to peak ws-Fe *** average total and ws-Fe deposition fluxes in Xi'an were the highest in spring and lowest in autumn,which were related to the distributions of the dustfall deposition fluxes and their Fe contents during these *** study provided a broader and comprehensive understanding of atmospheric iron deposition in Chinese urban area,which is of positive significance for understanding atmospheric chemistry and global climate change.

Considering the increased anthropogenic impacts,species with a limited range and low detectability often lack fundamental information and conservation actions,placing them at a high risk of *** Chinting alpine toad Scutiger chintingensis is a rare mountain amphibian endemic to the eastern margin of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau in *** its whole distribution range,only three known populations(Wolong,Emei,and Wawu)exist and no recent population status report has been documented for this species over the past two *** 2020 to 2023,we investigated the species distribution,and assessed the risk factors for the main *** recorded this species in all distribution areas,and updated a new distribution site with a lower elevation *** relative population density was 0.024±0.012 ind./m^(2)on Mount Emei,whereas only 0.008±0.017 ind./m^(2)on Mount *** significant difference was observed in the number of individuals between the two populations;however,the relative population density was significantly *** and waste discharge resulting from the construction of scenic areas,as well as disturbances from tourism,were the primary anthropogenic factors that influenced the survival of this *** results provide the updated information on the distribution and population status of the Chinting alpine toad,and suggest that unrecorded populations,as well as a wider elevation range,may exist for this *** findings emphasise the importance of timely updates of species distribution and population information and offer a basis for the future conservation of endangered amphibians.
