Rice melatonin deficiency causes premature leaf senescence via DNA methylation regulation

In a study of DNA methylation changes in melatonin-deficient rice mutants,mutant plants showed premature leaf senescence during grain-filling and reduced grain yield.Melatonin deficiency led to transcriptional reprogramming,especially of genes involved in chlorophyll and carbon metabolism,redox regulation,and transcriptional regulation,during dark-induced leaf senescence.Hypomethylation of mCG and mCHG in the melatonin-deficient rice mutants was associated with the expression change of both protein-coding genes and transposable element-related genes.Changes in gene expression and DNA methylation in the melatonin-deficient mutants were compensated by exogenous application of melatonin.A decreased S-adenosyl-L-methionine level may have contributed to the DNA methylation variations in rice mutants of melatonin deficiency under dark conditions.

In this paper,we first examine the impact of governance quality on public expenditure efficiency.Then,we try to determine the effect of these expenditures on economic growth.Our starting point is the idea that public expenditure efficiency of a government program is significantly affected by the country’s governance quality.In other words,changes in government expenditure and the returns they generate on a government program depend on governance quality.Our sample consists of 36 countries observed over the 1996 to 2020 period.This period is known by a significant transition of political regimes.Our research model links government expenditure with the returns generated in a country in a given sector.In this model,we introduce the governance variable to examine the impact of government expenditure on returns on a government program in terms of schooling rates and life expectancy.The results indicate that governance quality affects expenditure structure and that efficiency of this expenditure positively correlates with a better governance quality as measured by corruption control and government efficiency.We also found that efficient expenditure has a positive impact on economic growth.

This work investigated the influence of silver plasmon and reduced graphene oxide(r GO)on the photoelectrochemical performance(PEC)of Zn O thin films synthesized by the sol-gel method.The physicochemical properties of the obtained photo-anodes were systematically studied by using several characterization techniques.The x-ray diffraction analysis showed that all samples presented hexagonal wurtzite structure with a polycrystalline nature.Raman and energy dispersive x-ray(EDX)studies confirmed the existence of both Ag and r GO in Zn O:Ag/r GO thin films.The estimated grain size obtained from scanning electron microscopy(SEM)analysis decreased with Ag doping,then increased to a maximum value after r GO addition.The UV-vis transmission spectra of the as-prepared Zn O:Ag and Zn O:Ag/r GO thin films have shown a reduction in the visible range with a redshift at the absorption edges.The bandgaps were estimated to be around 3.17 e V,2.7 e V,and 2.52 e V for Zn O,Zn O:Ag,and Zn O:Ag/r GO,respectively.Moreover,the electrical measurements revealed that the charge exchange processes were enhanced at the Zn O:Ag/r GO/electrolyte interface,accompanied by an increase in the(PEC)performance compared to Zn O and Zn O:Ag photo-anodes.Consequently,the photocurrent density of Zn O:Ag/r GO(0.2 m A·cm^(-2)) was around 4 and 2.22 times higher than photo-anodes based on undoped Zn O(0.05 m A·cm^(-2)) and Zn O:Ag(0.09 m A·cm^(-2)),respectively.Finally,from the flat band potential and donor density,deduced from the Mott-Schottky,it was clear that all the samples were n-type semiconductors with the highest carrier density for the Zn O:Ag/r GO photo-anode.

In this work,we consider a stochastic epidemic model with vaccination,healing and relapse.We prove the existence and the uniqueness of the positive solution.We establish sufficient conditions for the extinction and the persistence in mean of the stochastic system.Moreover,we also establish sufficient conditions for the existence of ergodic stationary distribution to the model,which reveals that the infectious disease will persist.The graphical illustrations of the approximate solutions of the stochastic epidemic model have been performed.

We study the existence of positive solutions to a two-order semilineav elliptic problem with Dirichlet boundary condition（Pλ）{-div（c（x）△u=λf（u）inΩ,u=0 on ЭΩ where ΩCR n 〉 2 is a smooth bounded domain; f is a positive, increasing and convex source term and c（x） is a smooth bounded positive function on Ω, We also prove the existence of critical value and claim the uniqueness of extremal solutions.

This study describes the floristic composition and structure of a woody stand in the Senegalese Sahel, paying particular attention to the edaphic factors of its floristic composition. A stratified inventory considering the different relief units was adopted. Woody vegetation was surveyed using a dendrometric approach. The results obtained show that the flora is dominated by a few species adapted to drought, such as Balanites aegyptiaca (L.) Del., Calotropis procera Ait. and Boscia senegalensis (Pers.). The distribution of this flora and the structure of the ligneous plants are linked to the topography. In the lowlands, the flora is more diversified and the ligneous plants reach their optimum level of development compared with the higher relief areas. In the lowlands, there are a few woody species which, in the past, were indicative of better climatic conditions. These are Anogeissus leiocarpus (DC.), Commiphora africana (A. Rich.), Feretia apodanthera Del., Loeseneriella africana (A. Smith), Mitragyna inermis (Willd.) and Sclerocarya birrea (A. Rich). It is important that their reintroduction into reforestation projects takes account of their edaphic preference.

Hospital bed capacity across in Tunisia hospital during the first 4 waves of the COVID-19 pandemic:A descriptive analysis

Background:In March 2020,the WHO declared COVID-19 as a pandemic,and Tunisia implemented a containment and targeted screening strategy.The country’s public health policy has since focused on managing hospital beds.Methods:The study analyzed the bed occupancy rates in public hospitals in Tunisia during the pandemic.The evolution of daily cases and nonpharmaceutical interventions(NPI)actions undertaken by the Tunisian Government were also analyzed.The study used 3 indices to assess bed flexibility:Ramp duration until the peak,ramp growth until the peak,and ramp rate until the peak.The study also calculated the time shift at the start and peak of each wave to evaluate the government’s response efficacy.Results:The study found that the evolution of the epidemic in Tunisia had 2 phases.The first phase saw the pandemic being controlled due to strong NPI actions,while the second phase saw a relaxation of measures and an increase in wave intensity.ICU bed availability followed the demand for beds,but ICU bed occupancy remained high,with a maximum of 97%.The government’s response in terms of bed distribution and reallocation was slow.The study found that the most deadly wave by ICU occupied bed was the third wave due to a historical variant,while the fifth wave due to the delta variant was the most deadly in terms of cumulative death.Conclusions:The study concluded that decision-makers could use its findings to assess their response capabilities in the current pandemic and future ones.The study highlighted the importance of flexible and responsive healthcare systems in managing pandemics.

The aim of the present paper is to introduce and study a new type of q-Mellin transform [11], that will be called q-finite Mellin transform. In particular, we prove for this new transform an inversion formula and q-convolution product. The application of this transform is also earlier proposed in solving procedure for a new equation with a new fractional differential operator of a variational type.

In Tunisia,water scarcity is only adding pressure on water demand in agriculture.In the context of sustainable development goals,Tunisia has been reusing treated wastewater(TWW)as a renewable and inexpensive source for soil fertigation and groundwater(GW)recharge.However,major risks can be expected when the irrigation water is of poor quality.This study aims for evaluating the potential risk of TWW and GW irrigation on soil parameters.Accordingly,we evaluated the suitability of water quality through the analysis of major and minor cations and anions,metallic trace elements(MTEs),and the sodium hazard by using the sodium adsorption ratio(SAR)and the soluble sodium percentage(SSP).The risk of soil sodicity was further assessed by SAR and the exchangeable sodium percentage(ESP).The degree of soil pollution caused by MTEs accumulation was evaluated using geoaccumulation index(Igeo)and pollution load index(PLI).Soil maps were generated using inverse spline interpolation in ArcGIS software.The results show that both water samples(i.e.,TWW and GW)are suitable for soil irrigation in terms of salinity(electrical conductivityels of SAR and ESP are within the standards(SARelement(MTE)with the highest risk of soil pollution in both plots(Igeo>5.00),followed by Ni^(2+)and Pb^(2+).Nevertheless,Cd^(2+)presents the lowest risk of soil pollution(Igeo50.0%).This study shows that the use of imagery tools,such as ArcGIS,can provide important information for evaluating th
