Interdigitated terahertz metamaterial sensors:design with the dielectric perturbation theory

Designing terahertz sensors for highly sensitive detection of nanoscale thin films and a few biomolecules poses a substantial challenge but is crucial for unlocking their full potential in scientific research and advanced *** work presents a strategy for optimizing metamaterial sensors in detecting small quantities of dielectric *** amount of frequency shift depends on intrinsic properties(electric field distribution,Q-factor,and mode volume)of the bare cavity as well as the overlap volume of its high-electric-field zone(s)and the *** by the simplified dielectric perturbation theory,interdigitated electric split-ring resonators(ID-eSRRs)are devised to significantly enhance the detection sensitivity compared with eSRRs without interdigitated ***-eSRR’s fin-gers redistribute the electric field,creating strongly localized enhancements,which boost analyte *** periodic change of the inherent antiphase electric field reduces radiation loss,leading to a higher *** with ID-eSRR sensors operating at around 300 GHz demonstrate a remarkable 33.5 GHz frequency shift upon depositing a 150 nm SiO_(2)layer as an analyte simulant,with a figure of merit improvement of over 50 times compared with structures without interdigitated *** rational design offers a promising avenue for highly sensitive detection of thin films and trace biomolecules.

Dutch housing associations are dealing with a growing number of tenants who are ageing in ***,there is a lack of suitable housing that meets the(social)needs of this target *** housing,which offers a socio-spatial context that facilitates encounters between residents,is considered a promising housing concept to(partly)fill this ***,clustered housing is a broad concept consisting of a variety of housing types that differ from each other in the extent to which people“live together”.Still little is known about which types of clustered housing can be distinguished in relation to the potential for social ***,in this article we distinguish between types of clustered housing based on social,organizational,and spatial building *** have mapped these characteristics by combining real estate data of housing association Woonzorg Nederland with survey data collected among their building *** on this dataset,an explorative cluster analysis was performed,resulting in four types of clustered ***,further exploration of the data shows that,from the perspective of building managers,residents of certain types of clustered housing interact more often and feel more connected with each other than residents of non-clustered housing types.

Underground constructions often encounter water environments,where water–rock interaction can increase porosity,thereby weakening engineering ***,the failure criterion for chemically corroded rocks becomes essential in the stability analysis and design of such *** study enhances the applicability of the Hoek-Brown(H-B)criterion for engineering structures operating in chemically corrosive conditions by introducing a kinetic porosity-dependent instantaneous mi(KPIM).A multiscale experimental investigation,including nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR),X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),pH and ion chromatography analysis,and triaxial compression tests,is employed to quantify pore structural changes and their linkage with the strength responses of limestone under coupled chemical-mechanical(C-M)*** employing ion chromatography and NMR analysis,along with incorporating the principles of free-face dissolution theory accounting for both congruent and incongruent dissolution,a kinetic chemical corrosion model is *** model aims to calculate the kinetic porosity alterations within rocks exposed to varying H+concentrations and ***,utilizing the generalized mixture rule(GMR),the kinetic porositydependent mi is *** of the KPIM-enhanced H-B criterion using compression test data from 5 types of rocks demonstrated a high level of consistency between the criterion and the experimental results,with a coefficient of determination greater than 0.96,a mean absolute percentage error less than 4.84%,and a root-mean-square deviation less than 5.95 ***,the physical significance of the porosity-dependent instantaneous mi is clarified:it serves as an indicator of a rock’s capacity to leverage the confining pressure effect.

Advanced data mining methods have shown a promising capacity in building energy ***,in the past decade,such methods are rarely applied in practice,since they highly rely on users to customize solutions according to the characteristics of target building energy ***,the major barrier is that the practical applications of such methods remain *** is necessary to enable computers to have the human-like ability to solve data mining *** pre-trained transformers(GPT)might be capable of addressing this issue,as some GPT models such as GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 have shown powerful abilities on interaction with humans,code generation,and inference with common sense and domain *** study explores the potential of the most advanced GPT model(GPT-4)in three data mining scenarios of building energy management,i.e.,energy load prediction,fault diagnosis,and anomaly detection.A performance evaluation framework is proposed to verify the capabilities of GPT-4 on generating energy load prediction codes,diagnosing device faults,and detecting abnormal system operation *** is demonstrated that GPT-4 can automatically solve most of the data mining tasks in this domain,which overcomes the barrier of practical applications of data mining methods in this *** the exploration of GPT-4,its advantages and limitations are also discussed comprehensively for revealing future research directions in this domain.

A Versatile BenzimidazoleSubstituted Spirolactam Mechanophore:When Excited State Intramolecular Proton Transfer Couples with Rhodamine

Exploration of multicolor mechanochromic bulk polymers based on a single mechanophore is a big challenge to ***,we report a versatile benzimidazole-substituted spirolactam mechanophore where excited state intramolecular proton transfer(ESIPT)coupled with *** mechanophore was facilely synthesized and then covalently linked to polyurethane(PU)*** PU film containing the mechanophore(1@PU)showed cooperative photochromism upon irradiation involving simultaneous enhancement of normalized enol and rhodol emissions based on a cooperative ESIPT process and the ring-opening reaction of ***,the film exhibited dual-mode multicolor mechanochromism upon stretching and *** normalized intensity of enol emission increased and the fluorescence turned from light green to cyan after stretching,then red coloration appeared from colorless after *** experiments and density functional theory calculations confirmed that the stretch-induced increase of enol emission was attributed to torsion of the dihedral angle between xanthene and benzimidazole in the mechanophore via force-induced disaggregation and direct force action on the isolated *** of the dihedral angle and the ring-opening reaction of spirolactam in a single mechanophore occurred sequentially during compression,resulting in an observed red *** study might provide a glimpse into the design of novel multicolor mechanochromic mechanophores.

Semitransparent organic solar cells with high light utilization efficiency and color rendering index

Semitransparent organic solar cells(ST-OSCs)have garnered considerable attention as promising renewable energy technology for integrating photovoltaics into ***,there is a trade-off between power conversion efficiency(PCE)and average visible transmittance(AVT),which hinders the achievement of a high light utilization efficiency(LUE).In this study,we propose a valuable method to address this challenge by replacing the transparent top electrode,Ag,with a 20 nm layer of *** ST-OSCs based on the 20 nm Au electrode demonstrate superior exciton extraction,more efficient charge collection,and higher color-rendering index(CRI)due to their smoother surface,higher conductivity,and enhanced visible light transmittance,resulting in a significantly higher PCE of 13.67%and an enhanced AVT of 30.17%,contributing to a high LUE of 4.15%.Additionally,optically transparent dielectric layers,applied on the front and back sides of the ST-OSCs to further boost performance,delivered an impressive LUE of 4.93%,with PCE and AVT values reaching 14.44%and 34.12%,***,the champion ST-OSCs also exhibited a favorable CRI value of *** achievements represent the bestperforming ST-OSCs to date with both high LUE and CRI and hold significant implications for the prospective commercialization of ST-OSCs.
