Hydrogen sulfide(H_(2)S)emitted from construction and demolition waste landfills has received increasing *** its unpleasant odor,longterm exposure to a very low concentration of H_(2)S can cause a public health *** the case of construction and demolition(C&D)waste landfills,where gas collection systems are not normally required,the generated H_(2)S is typically not controlled and the number of treatment processes to control H_(2)S emissions in situ is *** attractive alternative may be to use chemically or biologically active landfill covers.A few studies using various types of cover materials to attenuate H_(2)S emissions demonstrated that H_(2)S emissions can be effectively *** this study,therefore,the costs and benefits of H_(2)S-control cover systems including compost,soil amended with lime,fine concrete,and autotrophic denitrification were *** on a case-study landfill area of 0.04 km^(2),the estimated H_(2)S emissions of 80900 kg over the 15-year period and costs of active cover system components(ammonium nitrate fertilizer for autotrophic denitrification cover,lime,fine concrete,and compost),ammonium nitrate fertilizer is the most cost effective,followed by hydrated lime,fine concrete,and yard waste *** concrete and yard waste compost covers are expensive measures to control H_(2)S emissions because of the large amount of materials needed to create a *** H_(2)S emissions using fine concrete and compost is less expensive at landfills that provide on-site concrete recovery and composting facilities;however,ammonium nitrate fertilizer or hydrated lime would still be more cost effective applications.

A comprehensive study was conducted to differentiate cardiovascular disease (CVD) subjects from non-CVD subjects using short recording electrocardiogram (ECG) of 244 Malaysian adults in The MalaysianCohort project. An automated peak detection algorithm to detect nine fiducialpoints of electrocardiogram (ECG) was developed. Forty-eight features wereextracted in both time and frequency domains, including statistical featuresobtained from heart rate variability and Poincare plot analysis. These includefive new features derived from spectrum counts of five different frequencyranges. Feature selection was then made based on p-value and correlationmatrix. Selected features were used as input for five classifiers of artificialneural network (ANN), k-nearest neighbors (kNN), support vector machine(SVM), discriminant analysis (DA), and decision tree (DT). Results showedthat six features related to T wave were statistically significant in distinguishingCVD and non-CVD groups. ANN had performed the best with 94.44% specificity and 86.3% accuracy, followed by kNN with 80.56% specificity, 86.49%sensitivity and 83.56% accuracy. The novelties of this study were in providingalternative solutions to detect P-onset, P-offset, T-offset as well as QRS-onsetpoints using discrete wavelet transform method. Additionally, two out of thefive newly proposed spectral features were significant in differentiating bothgroups, at frequency ranges of 1–10 Hz and 5–10 Hz. The prediction outcomeswere also comparable to previous related studies and significantly importantin using ECG to predict cardiac-related events among CVD and non-CVDsubjects in the Malaysian population.

Artemisinin(ART) is a sesquiterpene lactone with an endo-peroxide bridge that is thought to be responsible for its antimalarial *** has low oral bioavailability because of aqueous insolubility,which leads to local toxicity at the site of *** present work focused on increasing its solubility and evaluating its permeation across a model membrane to mimic transdermal delivery that bypasses the hepatic *** this purpose,physical mixtures(PM),solid dispersions(SD) and lyophilized dispersions(LD) with different drug-polymer ratios(1:0.5,1:1,1:2,1:4 and 1:9) were prepared using the hydrophilic polymer polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP).Drug-polymer dispersions were characterized using X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR).Solubility was measured in three solvents:de-ionized water,phosphate buffered saline(PBS) and *** toluene-water partition coefficient was evaluated and compared with the literature and calculated logP *** vitro diffusion of ART was studied across a polydimethylsiloxane membrane from a saturated solution of drug-polymer *** patterns showed a gradual decrease in crystallinity of ART with increasing polymer concentration,while FTIR confirmed no interactions between ART and *** was increased up to 4-,5-and 8-fold for LD in water,PBS and methanol,*** logP for toluene-water was 2.65 ± 0.3,which is in good agreement with literature and calculated logP *** was enhanced,which is attributed to the decrease in crystallinity and increase in wettability of the *** ART flux was significantly higher than that of pure ART(0.12 ± 0.01) with increasing PVP concentration for SD and LD *** conclusion,drug-polymer dispersions with PVP improve the pharmaceutical properties of ART in the order LD>SD>PM.

The initial corrosion behavior of AZ63 magnesium alloy is investigated in 1， 3， 5 and 7 wt.% NaCl by the means of corrosion potential， linear polarization， electrochemical impedance spectroscopy， and polarization measurements， during exposure in the corrosion media. Results show that increases in chloride concentrations provoke an increase in the corrosion rate. Based on the obtained kinetics parameters the mechanism of anodic dissolution and hydrogen evolution reactions are discussed， and kinetic models are proposed. It is concluded that anodic dissolution proceeds under Temkin conditions and hydrogen evolution reaction depend on the surface coverage of Mg（OH）2species.

The fatigue analyses of AlSi7 closed-cell aluminium foam were performed using a real porous model and three different homogenised material models:crushable foam model,isotropic hardening model and kinematic hardening *** numerical analysis using all three homogenised material models is based on the available experimental results previously determined from fatigue tests under oscillating tensile loading with the stress ratio R=*** obtained computational results have shown that both isotropic and kinematic hardening models are suitable to analyse the fatigue behaviour of closed-cell aluminium ***,the kinematic hardening material model has demonstrated significantly shorter simulation time if compared to the isotropic hardening material *** the other hand,the crushable foam model is recognized as an inappropriate approach for the fatigue analyses under tension loading conditions.

The antibacterial activity of Whey Milk and its fractions were studied against one hundred bacteria strains isolated and screened from various patients at the University Hospital of Zagazig,Sharkia Province,Egypt.F2 fraction of Whey Milk has shown the highest degree of antibacterial activity against the pathogenic bacteria A63 isolated from the *** whey(BW)was hydrolyzed with papain followed by fractionation using size exclusion chromatography(SEC).The fractionation profile of BWH showed three major peaks in Size exclusion chromatography,SECF1,SECF2,and SECF3 after 3h.F2 is the most active fraction and has faster migration than HP,F1,and F3 and may have higher positive charges on Urea-PAGE towards the cathode *** spectrum analysis of the F2 fraction of whey protein demonstrates the occurrence of distinctive functional groups,such as Alkanes,alcohols,phenols,flavonoids,alkenes,anhydrides,and halo *** biochemical characters and the 1.5 Kb 16S RNA gene’s nucleotide sequence of the most potent stain showed 99%similarity with Staphylococcus *** results showed that the ability of nanoparticles of whey to inhibit pathogenic bacteria decreases compared to raw whey and its *** deformation and partial and total lysis of cell components were seen in Staphylococcus pasteuri treated with whey F2 fraction under Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM).

The Dinh An Estuary is one of the Nine Dragon estuaries of the Mekong River. An international navigation channel was built in the estuary for vessels traveling from the South China Sea to the southwestern area of Vietnam and then to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The morphological evolution of the navigation channel is complicated and unstable. The back siltation intensity in the navigation channel has largely increased and been concentrated in the curvature segments of the channel since 1980. In this study, based on simulation results and measured data, five key factors that influence the back siltation in the navigation channel were systematically analyzed. These factors included the increasing elevation gap between the channel and the nearby seabed, the disadvantageous hydrodynamic conditions, sediment transport, mixing of saltwater and freshwater, and wave effects in the navigation channel. It is shown that the back siltation to a large extent results from the low current velocity of the secondary ocean circulation, which often occurs in the curvature segments of the channel. Suspended sediment also settles in the channel due to the decrease of the current velocity and the sediment transport capacity when flow passes through the channel. The changes of hydrodynamic conditions are responsible for the majority of the severe siltation in the curvature segments of the navigation channel.
