Emergency Preparedness Nursing education: Learner and faculty Perspectives

Over the past decade, entry-to-practice emergency preparedness competencies have been identified as an essential component of nursing education. In this paper the author reports upon a small Canadian study which explores the perspective of undergraduate learners and faculty members who participated in and/or facilitated an Emergency Preparedness Simulation (EPS) module during a primary health care praxis course. The central purpose of this study was to explore the related experiences of learners and faculty who participated in or facilitated an Emergency Preparedness Simulation (EPS) module academic year and their perspectives on the effectiveness of the simulation in preparing learners to respond to emergencies in the future. The EPS module included a seminar followed by a mass-casualty simulation experience. The mass-casualty simulation experience included a “Teddy Bear” triage and an “Explosion” triage. The constructivist data analysis identified four related patterns for both the learner and faculty participants: Strengths (S), Objections (O), Suggestions (S), and Feelings (!) [SOS!]. Three themes were identified in each pattern: relevance, design, and engagement. In comparing the learner and faculty perspectives, there is a clear congruence between the strengths identified, the objections identified, and the power of feelings for both learners and faculty who participate in the emergency preparedness scenarios. Learners and faculty had different suggestions. Learners suggested more time on developing skills, particularly around first aid of individual clients, and recommended all students begin with the “Teddy Bear” triage. faculty suggested a re-thinking of the “Explosion” triage simulation to emphasize community based emergency preparedness and responsiveness. Challenges of Bioethics education in Pediatric Basic Nursing education: A faculty Perspective

In the field of pediatric nursing, in the perinatal period, numerous ethical issues arise alongside the advancement of medical technology. However, sufficient education on bioethics is not provided in the pediatric nursing domain of basic nursing education. The purpose of this research is to examine the current status of bioethics education in the pediatric nursing domain of basic nursing education and explore the challenges perceived by the pediatric nursing faculty regarding bioethics education. The research method was a questionnaire survey on 100 randomly selected pediatric nursing faculty members from nursing universities across Japan. The results revealed that although bioethics issues were considered important, the emphasis remained primarily on addressing bioethics as part of nursing that respects children’s rights. Furthermore, respondents expressed difficulties regarding teaching methods and content related to bioethics.

Synergistic effect of bonding heterogeneity and phonon localization in introducing excellent thermoelectric properties in layered heteroanionic NdZnSbO material

Layered rare-earth metal oxides, harnessing the dual properties of oxides and two-dimensional layered materials, exhibit remarkable thermal stability and quantum confinement effects. Therefore, this work adopts the first-principles calculation combined with the Boltzmann transport theory to predict the thermoelectric properties of NdZnSbO compound. The coexistence of weak interlayer van der Waals interactions, robust intralayer ionic bonding, and partial covalent bonding leads to remarkable bonding heterogeneity, which engenders pronounced phonon scattering and imposes constraints on thermal transport along the out-of-plane direction. The weakened chemical bonds induced by the antibonding states, together with the rattling-like behavior of the Zn atom, culminate in the profound anharmonicity in the layered NdZnSbO compound. The weakening bond and heavy element contribute to the softness of phonon modes, which significantly diminishes the phonon group velocity. The redistribution-dominated four-phonon scattering process spans a large optical gap, which effectively reduces the lattice thermal conductivity. The NdZnSbO compound exhibits direct semiconductor characteristic with a bandgap of 0.73 e V by adopting the Heyd-Scuseria-Ernzerhof(HSE06) functional in combination with spin–orbit coupling(SOC) effect. The multi-valley feature of NdZnSbO compound augur favorably for band degeneracy, thus amplifying the power factor. Consequently, an optimal figure-of-merit(ZT) of 3.40 at 900 K is achieved for the n-type NdZnSbO compound. The present study delves deeply insights into the origins for the low thermal conductivity of NdZnSbO compound and proposes an optimization scheme to enhance overall thermoelectric performance.

Intelligent interaction system based on multimodal conformal triboelectric nanogenerator patch for disabled sports and life

Intelligent interaction technology based on advanced sensing units has become a research hotspot. In this paper, an intelligent interaction system (IIS) based on a multimodal conformal triboelectric nanogenerator patch (MCTP) is reported for sports monitoring and life promotion of the disabled. This IIS consists of a cloud-based smart sports recognition program and a smart life application. The porous micro-reinforced structure of polyurethane (PU) Sponge&Ecoflex, and the surface modification of PTFE by coating it with MXene endows the MCTP with excellent electrical properties. It shows good angle and force sensitivities of 1.1 V/°and 1.61 V/N, respectively, and has an ultra-fast response time of 15 ms, meeting the needs of human motion monitoring. The MCTP can also capture the mechanical energy, producing a maximum output power of 139μ*** with the commercial inertial measuring unit (IMU), the MCTP shows better consistency in human joint angle sensing. A precise analysis of wheelchair curling sports monitoring points is achieved by combining the MCTP and the human anatomy model. The cloud-based smart sports recognition program utilizes machine learning to achieve visual feedback on the three throwing technologies of draw, takeout and clearing. In addition, the developed smart life application uses a highsensitivity MCTP-sensor array design to achieve a variety of smart home interactions through simple finger touches. Overall,the IIS integrates the three major functions of smart sports sensing, energy capture, and smart home control, providing important application prospects in the fields of smart sports and human-computer interaction for the disabled.
